  • Publisher : Ignatius Press

  • ISBN : 1681490242
  • Pages : 188 pages

Download or read book A Still Small Voice written by Benedict C.F.R. Groeschel and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2012-12-11 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Father Groeschel, the highly respected author, psychologist, spiritual director and leader of renewal in the religious life, has written a brief but comprehensive practical guide for all those interested in private revelations, the reports of visions and other extraordinary religious phenomena that are so widespread in these times. Because of the intense interest in extraordinary religious experience that ranges from Medjugorje to the New Age, Groeschel's book is an urgently needed resource that gives practical norms to everyone on how to evaluate these claims. Drawing on spiritual classics and Church documents not readily available, he summarizes the Church's perennial wisdom on this topic. He also offers an alternative to unusual and extraordinary ways of knowing the things of God, which is a normal everyday opportunity open to all called "religious experience"--the action of grace operating in the context of a human life that can become a powerful source of virtue and holiness. Father Groeschel skillfully directs the reader to the humbler and safer path which discerns God's presence in prayer, Scripture, the sacraments and love of neighbor. The great example of this path to holiness is St. Thérèse of Lisieux who, though having very few extraordinary experiences, was filled with a profound awareness of God's presence and said, "To ecstasy, I prefer the monotony of sacrifice."

Book He Speaks in the Silence

Download or read book He Speaks in the Silence written by Diane Comer and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He Speaks in the Silence is about Diane Comer’s search for the kind of intimacy with God every woman longs for. It is a story of trying to be a good girl, of following the rules, of longing for a satisfaction that eludes us. Disappointed with all Diane had been told was supposed to fulfill her, she begged God in desperation to give her more. And He did. But first He took her through a trial so debilitating it almost destroyed what little faith she had. He let her go deaf. Using vivid parallels between her deafness and every woman’s struggle to hear God, this book shows women not only how Diane, as a deaf woman, hears in everyday life, but also how she can learn to listen to God in the midst of her own loud life, finding intimacy with God and the deep soul satisfaction she longs for.

Book A Still Small Voice

Download or read book A Still Small Voice written by Echo Bodine and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In A Still, Small Voice, famed psychic Echo Bodine turns to a subject she knows deeply and is passionate about: intuition. Using humorous anecdotes and a positive, readable style, this sequel to Echoes of the Soul explores what intuition is, where it's located, what it sounds like, and how to cultivate it. The author, who comes from a family of psychics, exposes the various internalized voices that can mask one's intuition. These include the voices of parents, grandparents, peers, therapists, significant others, religious figures, and society, along with emotions such as anger, fear, guilt, and despair. The book challenges the cliche that psychic abilities and intuition are the same, or that they are evil. One chapter is devoted to the many practical benefits that come from listening to intuition; another looks at the "faith-building times" in life and how to cope with others' negative reactions to setting off on the spiritual path.

Book excerpt: What did Napoleon Bonaparte, Henry Ford, and Andrew Carnegie all have in common as the key to their success? They each had immense confidence in their goals. They left no room or quarter for failure. They had faith. Author Paul Ramseyer takes the works of Napoleon Hill, a leading expert on success, and shows readers how to apply the same principles to their faith in God. Paul discovered how to use this power to drive stage 4 cancer out of his body. He also shows the reader how the Bible commands that requests in prayer be made in faith. He goes on to explain how this required faith is the only method we have to reach our full potential. With examples drawn from the most successful men in history, Paul doesn't just tell you to have faith, but teaches how you, like they, can decide to claim it and then gives detailed instructions how you can put it to work on your behalf. Are people sick, stuck in poverty, or victims to repeating sins? He shows readers that they don't have to be. In faith, all things are possible. With the Mechanics of Faith, readers are able to see how faith works to produce in their lives the results that they have been promised. Paul Ramseyer lives in Bloomfield, Iowa. In 2006, Paul learned from the past masters of industry and technology and the Bible how to drive stage four cancer from his body and is called to teach people everywhere how they too can be overcomers and not mere victims of circumstance.

Book Listen Love Repeat

  • Author : Karen Ehman
  • Publisher : HarperChristian + ORM
  • Release : 2016-11-15
  • ISBN : 0310339685
  • Pages : 257 pages

Download or read book Listen Love Repeat written by Karen Ehman and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2016-11-15 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our culture is self-obsessed – in our schedules, relationships, and especially online. (Can you say selfie?) But in this near-narcissism, people are less content than in decades past. Why? Because we forgot the joy that comes from putting others first. Doing so requires us to live alert, listening for “heart drops,” hints from those in our lives who need a helping hand or a generous dose of encouragement. Living alert lifts our own spirits, showing us that blessing others blesses us even more. Listen, Love, Repeat offers biblical teaching and suggests doable actions that are simple, heart-tugging, sentimental, even sneaky and hilarious. This message: • Presents scriptural examples of those who lived alert, including Jesus, who noticed those who least expected to be seen. • Explains the role of good works for followers of Christ. They aren’t our ticket to heaven but they are our marching orders on earth. • Gives creative ideas for showing love to friends and family, and suggests practical ways to reach out to the lonely, the marginalized, the outcast, and the odd duck. Additionally, it helps you comfort the grieving, showing what you can do when you don’t know what to say. • Provides inspiration for blessing the “necessary people” in your life, those often-overlooked souls who help you get life done every day, and teaches you how to hug a porcupine by genuinely loving the hard-to-love. As we scatter love, we create a safe space where we can openly share the gospel. We get to see lives changed right before our eyes. Most importantly, Listen, Love, Repeat will enable you to live a life that is full of kind deeds, not to selfishly shout, “Hey! Look at me!” but to humbly implore, “Will you look at Him?”

Book Torn to Heal

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mike Leake
  • Publisher : Cruciform Press
  • Release : 2013-05-01
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 72 pages

Download or read book Torn to Heal written by Mike Leake and published by Cruciform Press. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God is radically dedicated to our ongoing growth in spiritual maturity and holiness. This is both glorious and terrifying. It is glorious because the Lord of heaven and earth is for us. But it is terrifying because we are idolaters. This means that when God brings greater redemption into our lives he also brings a death sentence to our fallen desires. In love, God will do whatever it takes - even tearing us to shreds if necessary - to replace our feeble pleasures with lasting desire for himself. Sadly, in our culture two false responses to suffering have become deeply embedded in the Church: deadly dualism and shallow stoicism. Each can effectively hijack God's good purpose in suffering. Torn to Heal equips us to understand and reject these false and self-defeating approaches to suffering, and to embrace God's good purpose in our trials.

Book The Still Small Voice

Download or read book The Still Small Voice written by Donald L. Carveth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-01 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whereas Freud himself viewed conscience as one of the functions of the superego, in The Still Small Voice: Psychoanalytic Reflections on Guilt and Conscience, the author argues that superego and conscience are distinct mental functions and that, therefore, a fourth mental structure, the conscience, needs to be added to the psychoanalytic structural theory of the mind. He claims that while both conscience and superego originate in the so-called pre-oedipal phase of infant and child development they are comprised of contrasting and often conflicting identifications. The primary object, still most often the mother, is inevitably experienced as, on the one hand, nurturing and soothing and, on the other, as frustrating and persecuting. Conscience is formed in identification with the nurturer; the superego in identification with the aggressor. There is a principle of reciprocity at work in the human psyche: for love received one seeks to return love; for hate, hate (the talion law).
