Download or read book The Whole Brain Child written by Daniel J. Siegel and published by Delacorte Press. This book was released on 2011-10-04 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • More than 1 million copies in print! • The authors of No-Drama Discipline and The Yes Brain explain the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures in this pioneering, practical book. “Simple, smart, and effective solutions to your child’s struggles.”—Harvey Karp, M.D. In this pioneering, practical book, Daniel J. Siegel, neuropsychiatrist and author of the bestselling Mindsight, and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson offer a revolutionary approach to child rearing with twelve key strategies that foster healthy brain development, leading to calmer, happier children. The authors explain—and make accessible—the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures. The “upstairs brain,” which makes decisions and balances emotions, is under construction until the mid-twenties. And especially in young children, the right brain and its emotions tend to rule over the logic of the left brain. No wonder kids throw tantrums, fight, or sulk in silence. By applying these discoveries to everyday parenting, you can turn any outburst, argument, or fear into a chance to integrate your child’s brain and foster vital growth. Complete with age-appropriate strategies for dealing with day-to-day struggles and illustrations that will help you explain these concepts to your child, The Whole-Brain Child shows you how to cultivate healthy emotional and intellectual development so that your children can lead balanced, meaningful, and connected lives. “[A] useful child-rearing resource for the entire family . . . The authors include a fair amount of brain science, but they present it for both adult and child audiences.”—Kirkus Reviews “Strategies for getting a youngster to chill out [with] compassion.”—The Washington Post “This erudite, tender, and funny book is filled with fresh ideas based on the latest neuroscience research. I urge all parents who want kind, happy, and emotionally healthy kids to read The Whole-Brain Child. This is my new baby gift.”—Mary Pipher, Ph.D., author of Reviving Ophelia and The Shelter of Each Other “Gives parents and teachers ideas to get all parts of a healthy child’s brain working together.”—Parent to Parent

Download or read book Once There Was a Way written by Bryce Zabel and published by Diversion Books. This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the award-winning author of Surrounded by Enemies, an alternative history novel that asks, What if the Beatles stayed together? We all know the tragic story by now. After seven years as the most popular rock-and-roll group the world has ever seen, the Beatles—torn apart by personal and creative differences—called it quits in 1970, never to play together again. The fact that their contemporaries like the Rolling Stones are still playing today makes their ending even more painful. Once There Was a Way: What if The Beatles Stayed Together? is a story of another reality, the one we wished had happened, where the Fab Four chose to work it out rather than let it be. This book is no mere fairy tale, but a chronicle crafted from the people and events of our own history, shaped to create a brand new narrative in which John, Paul, George, and Ringo find a way to stay friends and keep the band together. Imagine there were more. Lots more. It’s easy if you try. “We know the Beatles let it be, but what if they worked it out instead? This book gives life to every fan’s fantasy. It's a great new adventure full of twists and turns that never were, but might have been.”—Chris Carter, host, Breakfast with the Beatles & Chris Carter’s British Invasion (Sirius/XM Radio) “Hold on to your hats, folks. You’re in for quite a ride.”—Harry Turtledove, alternative history author, How Few Remain, on Surrounded by Enemies

Download or read book You Were Listening written by Patricia Maack Walsh and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2013-06 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we really know that God listens and then indeed answers our prayers? This question persists in our dark world filled with tragedy and illness. Even among the community of faith the question looms. When and how one prays is as diverse as those praying. Crisis is the most compelling reason most of us pray. However, daily communication with the Lord in the little concerns is the direction my prayer life has moved. God's answers are as varied; some "yes," "no," "maybe," and some "wait." As wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and believer I have experienced a myriad of opportunities to cry out to God in prayer. Likewise, I have "heard" all forms of answers. I have also chatted with Him while singing in the shower with no crisis at all and no need for an answer. Most of the stories I tell are my own experiences. A few of the stories are significant episodes in the lives of close friends that are retold with their permission. I share these testimonies to encourage anyone pondering the question, "God, do you listen?"
