Many preachers today avoid the topic altogether because people today don’t quite know what to do with words like “awe” or “fear.” R. C. Sproul, in this classic work, puts the holiness of God in its proper and central place in the Christian life. He paints an awe-inspiring vision of God that encourages Christian to become holy just as God is holy. Once you encounter the holiness of God, your life will never be the same.

Book Sex Dating and Relationships

Download or read book Sex Dating and Relationships written by Gerald Hiestand and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2012-02-29 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considering the pervasive immorality and high divorce rate of our contemporary Christian culture, we evidently need a biblically based, theologically compelling, practical understanding of sex, dating, and relationships. Pastors Gerald Hiestand and Jay Thomas counteract this problem with their paradigm-shifting view of purity and relationships—a view that challenges even the basic assumptions of evangelical subculture. Unlike most books on dating, this one cuts straight to the heart of dating relationships, asserting with confidence that the line must be drawn at "no sexual activity" whatever. Few have dared to define and apply the Bible's understanding of purity in premarital relationships to this degree, but Heistand and Thomas have done it. Furthermore, both authors are vocational pastors who communicate regularly with the target audience and have a proven ability to express biblical truth in a winsome and compelling manner. Sex, Dating, and Relationships adds a new, almost provocative voice to the conversation that, with straightforward theological insight, pleads with Christians to get serious about honoring Christ with their sexuality.

Book The Hole in Our Holiness

Download or read book The Hole in Our Holiness written by Kevin DeYoung and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hole in our holiness is that we don't care much about holiness. Or, at the very least, we don't understand it. And we all have our reasons too: Maybe the pursuit of holiness seems legalistic. Maybe it feels like one more thing to worry about in your already overwhelming life. Maybe the emphasis on effort in the Christian life appears unspiritual. Or maybe you've been trying really hard to be holy and it's just not working! Whatever the case, the problem is clear: too few Christians look like Christ and too many don't seem all that concerned about it. This is a book for those of us who are ready to take holiness seriously, ready to be more like Jesus, ready to live in light of the grace that produces godliness. This is a book about God's power to help us grow in personal holiness and to enjoy the process of transformation.

Book The Argument for Holiness

Download or read book The Argument for Holiness written by Charles Rhodus and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-28 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, I expose the lies of the hour saying that holy living and separation from the world are not necessary. The spirit of Jezebel is prominent in so many churches, flaunting its lust and opposition to true righteousness. The charismatic spirit promotes loose living and a wrong definition of grace. For many, grace has become a license to sin. If you are born again, you must also live a holy lifestyle. Holiness is required to make Heaven just as much as the new birth is. You can be born again, but if you are not holy, you will not be saved. Does not the Bible say that without holiness, no man shall see the Lord? Your definition of holiness is not needed nor wanted. Holiness is plainly defined by scripture. Holiness has everything to do with our lives. It includes the teachings of hair, dress, entertainment, the company we keep, our conduct, conversation, how we dress, and much more. This book is not so much about those details but does give a strong defense and voice for the need to be holy. Sadly, so many men that stand behind the pulpits in churches will not preach the message God so requires. The blood of these precious souls will be on the hands of the compromising preachers.

Book Holiness and Ministry

  • Author : Thomas B Dozeman

Download or read book Holiness and Ministry written by Thomas B Dozeman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2008-07-10 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The World Council of Churches has called for renewed theological reflection on the biblical roots of ordination to strengthen the vocational identity of the ordained and to provide a framework for ecumenical dialogue. This book is a response to that call. It is grounded in the assumption that the vocation of ordination requires an understanding of holiness and how it functions in human religious experience. The goal is to construct a biblical theology of ordination that is embedded in broad reflection on the nature of holiness. Dozeman's study of holiness and ministry interweaves three methodologies. The first, from the History of Religions, describes two theories of holiness in the study of religion, as a dynamic force and as a ritual resource. Both play a central role in biblical literature and establish the paradigm of ordination to Word and Sacrament in Christian tradition. Second, the study of the formation of the Mosaic Office illustrates how the two views of holiness model ordination to the prophetic word and to the priestly ritual. Third, Canonical Criticism provides the lens to explore the ongoing influence of the Mosaic Office in the New Testament literature. Holiness and Ministry will assist candidates for ordination to discern their call experience and establish professional identity within individual traditions of Christianity, while also providing a resource for ecumenical dialogue on the nature and purpose of Christian ordination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If God is holy, then He can’t sin. If God can’t sin, then He can’t sin against you. If He can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make Him the most trustworthy being there is? Bestselling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God— we misunderstand His holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news. In these pages, we will see that God is not like us. He is different. He is holy. And that’s exactly what makes Him trustworthy. As it turns out, God being “holier than thou” is actually the best news in the world, and it’s the key to trusting Him.

Book Holiness and Community in 2 Cor 6 14 7 1

Download or read book Holiness and Community in 2 Cor 6 14 7 1 written by J. Ayodeji Adewuya and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-02-01 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines 2 Cor 6:14--7:1 and argues that its theological message is communal holiness. It culminates in an attempt to posit a Pauline theology of corporate sanctification in the Corinthian correspondence. Paul's view of sanctification, it is argued, should be seen as multifaceted: relational, communal, ethical, and mission-oriented. Thus, a coherent picture of Pauline teaching on holiness in the Corinthian correspondence emerges from this book. For Paul, the focus of God's redemptive activity is, primarily, the community and not the individual. Paul's view on holiness has to do with communal holiness within the people of God, the goal of which is to make God known to the wider society. In sum, this book argues that the teaching on holiness should not be, and cannot be, satisfactorily explained in terms of the individual, but only as the individual stands in relation to the community of faith. Thus, the conclusion offers a corrective to some strands of modern interpretation that emphasize the individualistic, experiential aspects of Christian holiness, thus tending to reduce Christian holiness to morality.
