Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no gainsaying the fact that the problem of religious intolerance has become a worldwide problem. In todays pluralistic society, the dialogical tension between openness and identity has become a major challenge for interreligious dialogue and peaceful co-existence. This tension is expressed in the question, Can one maintain ones own religious identity without one closing oneself off from the other? This question is central to the challenges posed on how religious education can contribute to sustainable peace in Nigeria and the world over. In this book Stella Nneji critically assesses the various models of religious pedagogy (mono-religious, multi-religious and inter-religious) by asking how these models relate to the dialogical tension between openness and identity in Nigeriaa nation perceivably confronted with an enduring history of post-colonial strife, religious intolerance and violence. The contention is that the mono-religious and multi-religious models, which, while dominant in current practice and in academia, nevertheless fall short of expressing the authentic challenges and opportunities religious intolerance presents in Nigerian multi-religious/cultural context. In this connection, this book provides a clear notion of the theological foundation, principles, and framework of inter-religious education and a practical guide for authentic dialogue in a plural context. She calls for a paradigm shift for confessional religious pedagogy to a model of inter-religious learning as incorporated within the hermeneutical-communicative education. On this basis, the book proposes a new model for the role of religious education in Nigeria. This model in a critical-enculturated way, attempts to recognize the tensions of authentic religious difference, presupposing a broad spectrum of difference in the classroom in a way that also incorporates genuine religious encounters and expressions of identity.

Book Tolerance and Intolerance in Religion and Beyond

Download or read book Tolerance and Intolerance in Religion and Beyond written by Anne Sarah Matviyets and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-10-09 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on religious tolerance and intolerance in terms of practices, institutions, and intellectual habits. It brings together an array of historical and anthropological studies and philosophical, cognitive, and psychological explorations by established scholars from a range of disciplines. The contributions feature modern and historic instances of tolerance and intolerance across a variety of geographies, societies, and religious traditions. They help readers to gain an understanding of the notion of tolerance and the historical consequences of intolerance from the perspective of different cultures, religions, and philosophies. The volume highlights tolerance’s potential to be a means to build bridges and at the same time determine limits. Whilst the challenge of promoting tolerance has mostly been treated as a value or practice of demographic or religious majorities, this book offers a broader take and pays attention to minority perspectives. It is a valuable reference for scholars of religious studies, the sociology of religion, and the history of religion.

Book Beyond All Religion Beyond Mythical and Outrageously Forged Religious Origins and Scriptures and Practices That Support Intolerance Viole

Download or read book Beyond All Religion Beyond Mythical and Outrageously Forged Religious Origins and Scriptures and Practices That Support Intolerance Viole written by Samuel Butler and published by . This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the consequences of religion more than whether Christ rose from the dead (Krishna, Mithras, Osiris, Attis of Phrygia, Dionysus, all of whom besides being born on December 25th from a virgin mother, died and were resurrected, except for Mithras - who ascended directly without dying ) or whether the text of the verses of the Qur'an correspond exactly to those revealed to Muhammad directly as the words of God, delivered to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel.. It is more focused on how religious scriptures and writings have been misused to harm, torture or kill others who don't believe, or used for justification to do what most rational persons would consider evil. How is this for religious intolerance? Rabbi Yaacov Perrin said, "One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail." Muhammad married a 6 year old girl. Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism had 24 wives, one was 14 years old. Smith was convicted of fraud (of being an "imposter"- a con man), in a court of law.. Then he wrote "The Book of Mormon..." The story of Moses is patterned after the story of Sargon the Great. Moses did not exist. Christianity was invented for political purposes by the Roman Emperor Constantine ("The Great") in 325 A.D. based on the myth of Mithra (Persian savior god born on December 25th).. Do a web search on: "How Christianity was Invented: The Truth ," without the quotes. Constantine's friend, Eusebius (Bishop of Caesarea in Palestine) has been described as "the first thoroughly dishonest historian of antiquity." He is also described as "The Father of Church History."Destruction of previous conflicting documents and edifices followed, including the destruction of the Great Library of Alexandria. This book is an attempt to create awareness of the true origins and the fraudulent and forged self-serving writings of the main religions. Their purpose is to control and mislead us to follow them, without question, essentially putting us in a prison in our own minds. Like the elephant with the rope around one foot, it is easy for us to break free, but we don't know it. This book is an attempt to encourage us to follow an alternative, a humanitarian secular ethical road moving beyond all religion. The orgins of the main religions are shown to be copycats of previous myths, with outrageous fraud and forgeries exposed. Covers all four major religions.

Book Beyond Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Download or read book Beyond Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Chronic Fatigue Syndrome written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-03-16 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are serious, debilitating conditions that affect millions of people in the United States and around the world. ME/CFS can cause significant impairment and disability. Despite substantial efforts by researchers to better understand ME/CFS, there is no known cause or effective treatment. Diagnosing the disease remains a challenge, and patients often struggle with their illness for years before an identification is made. Some health care providers have been skeptical about the serious physiological - rather than psychological - nature of the illness. Once diagnosed, patients often complain of receiving hostility from their health care provider as well as being subjected to treatment strategies that exacerbate their symptoms. Beyond Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome proposes new diagnostic clinical criteria for ME/CFS and a new term for the illness - systemic exertion intolerance disease(SEID). According to this report, the term myalgic encephalomyelitis does not accurately describe this illness, and the term chronic fatigue syndrome can result in trivialization and stigmatization for patients afflicted with this illness. Beyond Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome stresses that SEID is a medical - not a psychiatric or psychological - illness. This report lists the major symptoms of SEID and recommends a diagnostic process. One of the report's most important conclusions is that a thorough history, physical examination, and targeted work-up are necessary and often sufficient for diagnosis. The new criteria will allow a large percentage of undiagnosed patients to receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate care. Beyond Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome will be a valuable resource to promote the prompt diagnosis of patients with this complex, multisystem, and often devastating disorder; enhance public understanding; and provide a firm foundation for future improvements in diagnosis and treatment.

Book Beyond Hatred and Religious Intolerance

Download or read book Beyond Hatred and Religious Intolerance written by Denis O. Nwaobasi and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fact that the vast majority of people on earth today were born after the end of the Second World War should not be used by anybody as a pretext to claim ignorance of the horrors to which the human family was subjected during that devastating war. Fortunately, technology has made it possible for those scenes of horror at the concentration camps and elsewhere to be viewed many times over. As can be observed from the films, a calculated attempt was made to exterminate Jews from the face of the earth. Moreover, in that diabolical, unprecedented, and evil grand design in the history of humanity, millions of people from the four corners of the earth perished while a lot of wealth and infrastructures were destroyed. The USA participated in that war because it thought it would be a war to end all wars. Unfortunately, that war did not end all wars. Rather, the world has continued to witness wars and increased acts of terror globally. Both the young and the old have continued to shed tears and blood as a result of barbaric acts of terrorism. No one is spared. I had not fully recovered from the shock I received on hearing that someone, somewhere in our present world, questioned the veracity of the genocide perpetrated against the Jews during World War II when the unthinkable acts of terror against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon occurred on September 11, 2001. Since those horrendous attacks happened, world leaders have persistently called for a global coalition to wage war against terrorism. It is in response to those calls for concerted action against terrorism that this book is written. Its aim is not to grieve for, defend, or condemn any country or group of countries but to expose the root-causes of global terrorism and recommend remedial action. This line of approach is in recognition of the fact that the brutal attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were not directed against the American people alone but against the entire human family as the nationalities of the victims indicate and given the havoc that terrorists have unleashed on humanity across the ages.

Book excerpt: 313 AD is generally considered as a "turning point" in religious and political Western history. The meeting of Constantine and Licinius in Milan and the subsequent "edict" opened the way to the Christianisation of Roman imperial structures and, finally, to the0declaration of Christianity as the only allowed religion in the Roman Empire. The papers summoned in this volume tackle this complex historical phase from a number of 0 perspectives (from Church history and theology to political and juridical history), following a strongly multidisciplinary approach.

Book Philosophy Religion and the Question of Intolerance

Download or read book Philosophy Religion and the Question of Intolerance written by Mehdi Aminrazavi and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1997-07-31 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophy, Religion, and the Question of Intolerance is a diverse collection of essays united by a common starting point and theme—the awareness that intolerance is a phenomenon encountered in diverse places and circumstances and often handled with limited success. The question of toleration, together with its cultural, social, religious, and philosophical implications, is addressed by leading authorities who offer insights from an interdisciplinary perspective. The book begins with essays by three distinguished scholars, Robert Cummings Neville, J. B. Schneewind, and John McCumber. They assess the origins of intolerance, the genesis of our concept of toleration, and the outlook for the practice of tolerance in contemporary society. Beyond the opening essays, the collection is divided into three sections. The first concentrates on the relationship of religious faith and practice to toleration and inquires how religion might either impede or promote toleration. The second section deals primarily with questions regarding tolerance in the face of modern political realities. The final section discusses ethics, namely the philosophical analysis and definition of toleration as a virtue.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written for the health-minded, frustrated, or curious person interested in gaining a better understanding of the health issues food intolerance causes and the story behind why today's gluten is toxic. It's for people who want to find a healthy way to go gluten free while at the same time gaining valuable insight of optimal nutrition in the healing transition. We include allergy friendly mouthwatering recipes and tips on converting recipes to allergy friendly. The connection between gluten intolerance and dairy intolerance often go hand in hand. With dairy affecting the large intestine and gluten affecting the small intestine, it makes sense to heal the body by eliminating both. We will talk about intolerance verses allergies and how food intolerance is not always a GI disorder but can be a condition that reacts systemically. Studies show 50 percent of people with celiac disease also have issues with dairy. In addition, only 8 percent heal on a gluten free diet alone. This is why it's so important to address the triggers and holistically focus on the underlying issues. Nutrition plays a critical role in the healing process. By making appropriate diet changes suggested in Beyond Gluten you will be able to manage chronic disorders and eliminate systemic reactions.

Book Beyond the Secular West

Download or read book Beyond the Secular West written by Akeel Bilgrami and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2016-03-22 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the character of secularism in countries that were not pervaded by Christianity, such as China, India, and the nations of the Middle East? To what extent is the secular an imposition of colonial rule? How does secularism comport with local religious cultures in Africa, and how does it work with local forms of power and governance in Latin America? Has modern secularism evolved organically, or is it even necessary, and has it always meant progress? A vital extension of Charles Taylor's A Secular Age, in which he exhaustively chronicled the emergence of secularism in Latin Christendom, this anthology applies Taylor's findings to secularism's global migration. Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im, Rajeev Bhargava, Akeel Bilgrami, Souleymane Bachir Diagne, Sudipta Kaviraj, Claudio Lomnitz, Alfred Stepan, Charles Taylor, and Peter van der Veer each explore the transformation of Western secularism beyond Europe, and the collection closes with Taylor's response to each essay. What began as a modern reaction to—as well as a stubborn extension of—Latin Christendom has become a complex export shaped by the world's religious and political systems. Brilliantly alternating between intellectual and methodological approaches, this volume fosters a greater engagement with the phenomenon across disciplines.
