Download or read book Beyond Copper Soaps written by Luciana da Costa Carvalho and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-16 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports a series of electrochemical experiments where copper was corroded in the presence of various organic substances. Combining data from spectroscopy techniques, X-ray diffraction and mass spectrometry (including proteomics) the experiments demonstrate that copper-organic complexes can be formed during the corrosion of copper. The low solubility of copper-organic complexes in organic solvents and their amorphous nature mean that these compounds cannot be easily detected by one single analytical technique. This book benefits researchers investigating the presence of organic residues in archaeological copper corrosion and copper-organic complexes in art, where sampling is often subject to curatorial constraints.

Book excerpt: In this surprising and remarkably practical book, Dr. Skotnicki reveals the harmful effects of modern skincare habits and provides a step-by-step guide to preserve the microbiome, fight aging and develop beautiful, problem-free skin. Women, men and children are having more skin problems today than ever before. Sensitive skin prevalence has skyrocketed, and the number of people reacting to cosmetics is climbing. Why? Dermatologist Sandy Skotnicki argues that the cause is a key element of our contemporary lifestyle: the grooming and beauty habits that the advertising and personal-care product industries have encouraged us to pursue. Those miraculous cleansers, creams and balms we're buying to protect our outer layer may actually end up harming the body's largest organ. In Beyond Soap, Dr. Skotnicki argues that the best state for normal skin is the natural state—the one that avoids disturbing the skin's protective barrier and the bacteria that accompanied the body throughout its evolution. A combination of diagnosis and prescription, Dr. Skotnicki explains the problem with society's current cleansing and beauty habits, then provides a practical guide on how to fix things with a 3-step product-elimination diet that will help you remove unnecessary and potentially harmful ingredients from your beauty and skincare regime, returning the skin to the condition nature intended. Beyond Soap also includes indispensable advice on how to wash and care for the skin of adults, babies and children, followed by a common-sense beauty regimen intended to stave off aging, reduce skin problems and return the face and body to its natural glow.

Book Beyond Adversity

  • Author : William Park
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2010-07-15
  • ISBN : 192194126X
  • Pages : 313 pages

Download or read book Beyond Adversity written by William Park and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-07-15 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In November 1941, about 100 university students began their short-term compulsory military training with the 15th Infantry Battalion. Most were aged 19-22, had daytime jobs and were evening or external students from the arts, commerce and law faculties. They were ambitious, hard-working young men anxious to make their way in the world. Their compulsory military training was due to end on 4 February 1942 and the students would then be released to return to their jobs and continue their part-time studies. The outbreak of the Pacific War on 7 December changed everything. In April 1942, the 15th Battalion was given 24 hours' notice to move from Caloundra to Townsville. In January 1943 the Battalion went to New Guinea to take part in the Salamaua and Lae campaigns and did not return to Brisbane until July 1944. In November it was sent to fight in Bougainville. The Battalion finally returned home in January 1946 and most returned to resume their studies and jobs within the community. This book tells the story of those Queensland University students of `U' Company, 15th Battalion during its brief existence. It covers their wartime service in all its tragedy and triumph and how they resumed their lives, studies and careers once the war was over. Most regard themselves as being very fortunate - to have survived the war, to have learned to cope with adversity, to have learned the importance of getting on with life in spite of insurmountable obstacles and in having been able to make the most of opportunities that arose. They have been fortunate to find a life beyond adversity.
