Book Introduction to Agricultural Accounting

Download or read book Introduction to Agricultural Accounting written by Barbara M. Wheeling and published by Cengage Learning. This book was released on 2008 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Agricultural Accounting offers an approach for compiling and analyzing accounting information specific to agricultural operations. Unlike typical accounting books, this text addresses the issues and situations unique to the agricultural industry, and offers relevant examples of accounting applied to agricultural operations. The accounting procedures offered build on current practice in agriculture. Cash-basis accounting, prevalent in many farm operations is explained in the text through an accrual-adjusted system. This system provides more accurate information for the measurement of profitability of the farm operation. Figures and tables are presented throughout for easy reference, and to simplify accounting practices. The easy-to-understand approach is appropriate for learners without any accounting background.

Book True Cost Accounting for Food

Download or read book True Cost Accounting for Food written by Barbara Gemmill-Herren and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains how True Cost Accounting is an effective tool we can use to address the pervasive imbalance in our food system. Calls are coming from all quarters that the food system is broken and needs a radical transformation. A system that feeds many yet continues to create both extreme hunger and diet-related diseases, and one which has significant environmental impacts, is not serving the world adequately. This volume argues that True Cost Accounting in our food system can create a framework for a systemic shift. What sounds on the surface like a practice relegated to accountants is ultimately a call for a new lens on the valuation of food and a new relationship with the food we eat, starting with the reform of a system out of balance. From the true cost of corn, rice and water, to incentives for soil health, the chapters economically compare conventional and regenerative, more equitable farming practices in and food system structures, including taking an unflinching look at the true cost of cheap labour. Overall, this volume points towards the potential for our food system to be more human-centred than profit-centred and one that has a more respectful relationship to the planet. It sets forth a path forward based on True Cost Accounting for food. This path seeks to fix our current food metrics, in policy and in practice, by applying a holistic lens that evaluates the actual costs and benefits of different food systems, and the impacts and dependencies between natural systems, human systems, agriculture and food systems. This volume is essential reading for professionals and policymakers involved in developing and reforming the food system, as well as students and scholars working on food policy, food systems and sustainability.

Book Farm Accounting

Download or read book Farm Accounting written by Hiram Thompson Scovill and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Farm Accounting From the literature on the subject, nearly all of which has been published during the last five or six years, one might be led to think there was something strange and uncommon about the keeping of records of business transactions on the farm. In the last several years, many record books and bulletins on farm bookkeeping and farm costs have been published. With very few exceptions these bulletins deal with the subject from a purely statistical point of view, without involving principles of double entry bookkeeping or the fundamentals of accounting theory. Very often they fail to provide for proper correlation and interpretation of results after they are obtained. These bulletins have proved to be of considerable value, however, in creating a desire on the part of the farmer for a better knowledge concerning his financial condition and progress. Perhaps the reason the subject is considered in the bulletins from the statistical viewpoint only is found in the fact that double entry bookkeeping has been treated so often in the past as a weird and difficult subject unrelated to anything else, requiring familiarity with a great many rules and the use of a great amount of time to operate. Naturally this would not appeal to the farmer returning from a hard day's work. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Start Your Farm

Download or read book Start Your Farm written by Forrest Pritchard and published by The Experiment. This book was released on 2018-09-10 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A totally modern, all-purpose handbook for today’s agricultural dreamers—covering the challenges and triumphs of launching any successful farm—from two leading lights in sustainable farming Do you dream of starting your own farm but wonder where to begin? Or do you already have a farm but wish to become more sustainable to compete in today's market? Start Your Farm, the first comprehensive business guide of its kind, covers these essential questions and more: Why be a farmer in the 21st century? Do you have what it takes? What does sustainable really mean, and how can a small (as little as one acre) to midsize farm survive alongside commodity-scale agriculture? How do you access education, land, and other needs with limited capital? How can you reap an actual profit, including a return on land investment? How do you build connections with employees, colleagues, and customers? At the end of the day, how do you measure success? (Hint: Cash your lifestyle paycheck.) More than a practical guide, Start Your Farm is a hopeful call to action for anyone who aspires to grow wholesome, environmentally sustainable food for a living. Take it from Forrest Pritchard and Ellen Polishuk: Making this dream a reality is not for the faint of heart, but it's well within reach—and there's no greater satisfaction under the sun!
