This book was released on 2003 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Early-Middle Neolithic period in northeast Spain was a period of considerable change. Through statistical analysis of four burial sites, examination of associated grave goods and use-wear analysis of stone artefacts from the graves, the author aims to reconstruct aspects of the socio-economic organisation of the people who inhabited these sites. Flint was shown to be an important part of funerary ritual and inferences are made on links between tools and the age and sex of the individual interred, and their relationship to other types of grave goods. Spanish text; short French and English abstract.

Book Pelagonius and Latin Veterinary Terminology in the Roman Empire

Download or read book Pelagonius and Latin Veterinary Terminology in the Roman Empire written by Adams and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 707 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The language of Latin veterinary medicine has never been systematically studied. This book seeks to elucidate the pathological and anatomical terminology of Latin veterinary treatises, and the general linguistic features of Pelagonius as a technical writer. Veterinary practice in antiquity cannot be related directly to that of the modern world. In antiquity a man could claim expertise in horse medicine without ever passing an examination. Owners often treated their own animals. The distinction between 'professional' and layman was thus blurred, and equally the distinction between 'scientific' terminology and laymen's terminology was not as clear-cut as it is today. The first part of the book is devoted to some of the non-linguistic factors which influenced the terminology in which horse diseases and their treatment were described.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Promoting a new, broadly interdisciplinary horizon for future studies in early Greek philosophy, Dirk L. Couprie, Robert Hahn, and Gerard Naddaf establish the cultural context in which Anaximander's thought developed and in which the origins of Greek philosophy unfolded in its earliest stages. In order to better understand Anaximander's achievement, the authors call our attention to the historical, social, political, technological, cosmological, astronomical, and observational contexts of his thought. Anaximander in Context brings to the forefront of modern debates the importance of cultural context, and the indispensability of images to clarify ancient ideologies.

Book Experiment and Natural Philosophy in Seventeenth Century Tuscany

Download or read book Experiment and Natural Philosophy in Seventeenth Century Tuscany written by Luciano Boschiero and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-09-04 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work counters historiographies that search for the origins of modern science within the experimental practices of Europe’s first scientific institutions, such as the Cimento. It proposes that we should look beyond the experimental rhetoric found in published works, to find that the Cimento academicians were participants in a culture of natural philosophical theorising that existed throughout Europe.
