Book Best Practice Subsurface Investigations

Download or read book Best Practice Subsurface Investigations written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These best practices for Subsurface Survey processes were developed at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and later shared and formalized by a sub-committee, under the Electrical Safety Committee of EFCOG. The developed best practice is best characterized as a Tier II (enhanced) survey process for subsurface investigations. A result of this process has been an increase in the safety and lowering of overall cost, when utility hits and their related costs are factored in. The process involves improving the methodology and thoroughness of the survey and reporting processes; or improvement in tool use rather than in the tools themselves. It is hoped that the process described here can be implemented at other sites seeking to improve their Subsurface Investigation results with little upheaval to their existing system.

Book NASTT s Subsurface Investigation Good Practices Guidelines

Download or read book NASTT s Subsurface Investigation Good Practices Guidelines written by North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Subsurface Investigations publication is presented by the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT), a non-profit educational organization. The published work serves as a companion document to a portion of "NASTT's New Installations Good Practices Training Course" and is intended to provide contractors, engineers, and utility owners with an overview of the many benefits of this widely practiced trenchless method. Understanding subsurface conditions provides insight into the source of the geologic materials, and the presence of potential buried objects which can have a significant impact on the outcome of a trenchless construction project. The subsurface conditions often dictate the most effective trenchless approach and may eliminate certain trenchless techniques as feasible options for the pipeline installation. Potential buried objects that can stop a trenchless project include naturally occurring or manmade objects. This publication serves to provide information on the elements of geotechnical investigations and other due diligence which is required to adequately characterize the subsurface environment prior to advancing a trenchless pipeline installation. All NASTT publications are peer reviewed by volunteer industry professionals to ensure that they offer generic and non-commercial information. This publication was funded solely by NASTT as part of our educational outreach programing. Since 1990, the all-volunteer members of NASTT have presented non-commercial information about green alternative engineering methods to North American communities and beyond. NASTT offers multiple, high quality trenchless courses each year throughout North America and at our annual NASTT No-Dig Show Conference and Exhibition. Book Recommended Contract Practices for Underground Construction Second Edition

Download or read book Recommended Contract Practices for Underground Construction Second Edition written by Sarah H. Wilson and published by Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration. This book was released on 2019-05-10 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A successful underground project is one where relationships are strong, the objectives as understood by each party are met or exceeded, and the work product serves its stakeholders and is maintainable in a way that fits with the project vision. High-level metrics for project success relate to safety, quality, schedule, and budget. The first edition of Recommended Contract Practices for Underground Construction has become a valued resource for the underground industry, serving as a concise guide for drafting and implementation of contract provisions. It provided improvements to underground contracting practices during all project stages. It also presented clear roles and responsibilities for project participants to promote better contracts. This second edition was undertaken by the UCA of SME because the industry has undergone numerous changes over the last decade. Changes in tunneling technology, more common use of design-build as a contracting mechanism, and many lessons learned have sparked some creative contract approaches. The recommendations contained in this edition are intended to guide owners and their engineers in developing and administering contracts and to give contractors a better understanding of the rationale behind contract provisions. The goal is that more underground projects in this country can be best projects, where improved relationships and fair contracts enable all project participants to personally invest in cost-effective, profitable projects, ensuring the continued health of the underground industry.

Book 2016GUIDELINES FOR INVESTIGATING GEOLOGIC HAZARDS AND PREPARING ENGINEERING GEOLOGY REPORTS WITH A SUGGESTED APPROACH TO GEOLOGIC HAZARD ORDINANCES IN UTAH

Download or read book 2016GUIDELINES FOR INVESTIGATING GEOLOGIC HAZARDS AND PREPARING ENGINEERING GEOLOGY REPORTS WITH A SUGGESTED APPROACH TO GEOLOGIC HAZARD ORDINANCES IN UTAH written by Steve D. Bowman and published by Utah Geological Survey. This book was released on 2016-09-21 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of these guidelines for investigating geologic hazards and preparing engineering-geology reports, is to provide recommendations for appropriate, minimum investigative techniques, standards, and report content to ensure adequate geologic site characterization and geologic-hazard investigations to protect public safety and facilitate risk reduction. Such investigations provide important information on site geologic conditions that may affect or be affected by development, as well as the type and severity of geologic hazards at a site, and recommend solutions to mitigate the effects and the cost of the hazards, both at the time of construction and over the life of the development. The accompanying suggested approach to geologic-hazard ordinances and school-site investigation guidelines are intended as an aid for land-use planning and regulation by local Utah jurisdictions and school districts, respectively. Geologic hazards that are not accounted for in project planning and design often result in additional unforeseen construction and/or future maintenance costs, and possible injury or death.

Book Recommended Contract Practices for Underground Construction

Download or read book Recommended Contract Practices for Underground Construction written by William W. Edgerton and published by SME. This book was released on 2008 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Underground construction is more complex than ever. Demand for space is increasing, new technologies are constantly evolving, and more stakeholders are asserting influence. Yet one of the most challenging and frustrating characteristics of underground construction remains: often, contract language does not account for the unique nature of building underground. Recommended Contract Practices for Underground Construction is the first industry-wide effort to improve contract procedures in more than 30 years. Commissioned by the Underground Construction Association of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, this manual is an indispensable resource for contractors, consultants, suppliers, and owners anticipating underground projects. The authors suggest better practices during all stages of a project, when decisions are made that can affect the contract positively or negatively. Part one focuses on the practices and disciplines that build the foundation for effective contracts during the early phases of a project. Part two discusses best practices for contract provisions, payment mechanisms, and dispute resolution. By following these recommendations, you'll reduce the mistrust and costly disputes that often arise from the contract process. The result will be improved relationships, better contracts, and, most importantly, projects that are most cost-effective for owners and more profitable for contractors.

This book was released on 2003 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CI/ASCE Standard 38-02 presents a credible system for classifying the quality of utility location information that is placed in design plans. The Standard addresses issues such as: how utility information can be obtained, what technologies are available to obtain that information; how that information can be conveyed to the information users; who should be responsible for typical collection and depiction tasks; what factors determine which utility quality level attribute to assign to data; and what the relative costs and benefits of the various quality levels are. Used as a reference or as part of a specification, the Standard will assist engineers, project and utility owners, and constructors in developing strategies to reduce risk by improving the reliability of information on existing subsurface utilities in a defined manner.
