Book Best Matching Theory Applications

Download or read book Best Matching Theory Applications written by Mohsen Moghaddam and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mismatch or best match? This book demonstrates that best matching of individual entities to each other is essential to ensure smooth conduct and successful competitiveness in any distributed system, natural and artificial. Interactions must be optimized through best matching in planning and scheduling, enterprise network design, transportation and construction planning, recruitment, problem solving, selective assembly, team formation, sensor network design, and more. Fundamentals of best matching in distributed and collaborative systems are explained by providing: § Methodical analysis of various multidimensional best matching processes § Comprehensive taxonomy, comparing different best matching problems and processes § Systematic identification of systems’ hierarchy, nature of interactions, and distribution of decision-making and control functions § Practical formulation of solutions based on a library of best matching algorithms and protocols, ready for direct applications and apps development. Designed for both academics and practitioners, oriented to systems engineers and applied operations researchers, diverse types of best matching processes are explained in production, manufacturing, business and service, based on a new reference model developed at Purdue University PRISM Center: “The PRISM Taxonomy of Best Matching”. The book concludes with major challenges and guidelines for future basic and applied research in the area of best matching.

Download or read book Matching Theory written by László Lovász and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book surveys matching theory, with an emphasis on connections with other areas of mathematics and on the role matching theory has played, and continues to play, in the development of some of these areas. Besides basic results on the existence of matchings and on the matching structure of graphs, the impact of matching theory is discussed by providing crucial special cases and nontrivial examples on matroid theory, algorithms, and polyhedral combinatorics. The new Appendix outlines how the theory and applications of matching theory have continued to develop since the book was first published in 1986, by launching (among other things) the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method.

Book Curvature Scale Space Representation Theory Applications and MPEG 7 Standardization

Download or read book Curvature Scale Space Representation Theory Applications and MPEG 7 Standardization written by F. Mokhtarian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MPEG-7 is the first international standard which contains a number of key techniques from Computer Vision and Image Processing. The Curvature Scale Space technique was selected as a contour shape descriptor for MPEG-7 after substantial and comprehensive testing, which demonstrated the superior performance of the CSS-based descriptor. Curvature Scale Space Representation: Theory, Applications, and MPEG-7 Standardization is based on key publications on the CSS technique, as well as its multiple applications and generalizations. The goal was to ensure that the reader will have access to the most fundamental results concerning the CSS method in one volume. These results have been categorized into a number of chapters to reflect their focus as well as content. The book also includes a chapter on the development of the CSS technique within MPEG standardization, including details of the MPEG-7 testing and evaluation processes which led to the selection of the CSS shape descriptor for the standard. The book can be used as a supplementary textbook by any university or institution offering courses in computer and information science.

Book Two Sided Matching

Download or read book Two Sided Matching written by Alvin E. Roth and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-06-26 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-sided matching provides a model of search processes such as those between firms and workers in labor markets or between buyers and sellers in auctions. This book gives a comprehensive account of recent results concerning the game-theoretic analysis of two-sided matching. The focus of the book is on the stability of outcomes, on the incentives that different rules of organization give to agents, and on the constraints that these incentives impose on the ways such markets can be organized. The results for this wide range of related models and matching situations help clarify which conclusions depend on particular modeling assumptions and market conditions, and which are robust over a wide range of conditions. 'This book chronicles one of the outstanding success stories of the theory of games, a story in which the authors have played a major role: the theory and practice of matching markets ... The authors are to be warmly congratulated for this fine piece of work, which is quite unique in the game-theoretic literature.' From the Foreword by Robert Aumann

Book excerpt: The third edition presents a unified, up-to-date and detailed account of broadband matching theory and its applications to the design of broadband matching networks and amplifiers. A special feature is the addition of results that are of direct practical value. They are design curves, tables and explicit formulas for designing networks having Butterworth, Chebyshev or elliptic, Bessel or maximally flat group-delay response. Book excerpt: Matching is a classic problem with a rich history and a significant impact on both the theory of algorithms and in practice. Recently, there has been a surge of interest in the online version of matching and its generalizations. This is due to the important new application domain of Internet advertising. The theory of online matching and allocation has played a critical role in designing algorithms for ad allocation. Online Matching and Ad Allocation surveys the key problems, models, and algorithms from online matchings, as well as their implication in the practice of ad allocation. It provides a classification of the problems in this area, an introduction into the techniques used, a glimpse into the practical impact, and ponders some of the open questions that will be of interest in the future. Matching continues to find core applications in diverse domains, and the advent of massive online and streaming data emphasizes the future applicability of the algorithms and techniques surveyed here. Online Matching and Ad Allocation is an ideal primer for anyone interested in matching, and particularly in the online version of the problem, in bipartite graphs.

Book Dynamic Lines of Collaboration

Download or read book Dynamic Lines of Collaboration written by Hao Zhong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the systematic modeling of complex situations characterized by escalating disruptions, and on cycles of dynamic collaboration for the best handling of disruptions. What can we do about disruptive events and their cascading effects? Thanks to the evolution of intelligent technologies for interaction, communication, sharing, and collaboration, cyberspace is a rapidly expanding world. Our systems of machines, software services, and human organizations have become increasingly interdependent, in other words – networked. As a result, disruptions that initially affect only a small part of any network tend to escalate. At the same time, cyber solutions can support first responders and emergency handlers, enhancing their responsiveness and ability to collaborate with one another in controlling disruptions and preventing their escalation. In this book, we are chiefly interested in how effectively these collaborations can be supported and how we can further optimize such support. Solution guidelines for optimizing collaborations are illustrated with examples in various application domains: agricultural robotics, civil cyber-physical infrastructure, visual analytics, manufacturing automation, and supply chains. Open-source simulation tools are also provided to supplement the main content.
