This deleterious ingredient is in a great measure removed in the blast furnaces by the copious use of lime, and the ore being free from phosphorus, the resulting pig iron 1s Ill favor at the Bessemer steel works. The producing powers Of this remarkable accumulation Of ore are very large, probably - if fully exercised - amounting to some thousands of tons per day.
