Book excerpt: This essential guide provides accessible, concise, evidence-based guidelines on Atttention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), offering a deeper scientific understanding of the condition and its consequences. It offers ideas and insights for managing the condition in daily family life and promoting the most effective self-regulation strategies for children and adolescents, allowing parents to better understand the origins of their child’s behaviour and avoid potential negative consequences. In this straightforward text, Capodieci and Re set out the basic theories on ADHD and cover key topics including parent-child relationships, helping children understand their condition, friendships with peers, comorbidities, classroom strategies, and how families and professionals can best work together. Taking into account the most recent updates to the DSM-5 definition of ADHD, the authors emphasise the importance of a multifocal approach to the treatment of ADHD, involving the child’s teachers, parents and peers, to better develop family and peer relationships. They offer strategies for the classroom, for good sleep and for healthy eating and physical activity, and support for any other learning, language, movement and emotional problems an ADHD child might have. Understanding ADHD will be essential reading for parents of children with ADHD, as well as health, education and social care professionals involved in the field.

Book Innovation and Technology Enhancing Mathematics Education

Download or read book Innovation and Technology Enhancing Mathematics Education written by Eleonora Faggiano and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-14 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses key issues of Technology and Innovation(s) in Mathematics Education, drawing on heterogeneous ways of positioning about innovation in mathematical practice with technology. The book offers ideas and meanings of innovation as they emerge from the entanglement of the various researchers with the mathematical practice, the teacher training program, the student learning and engagement, or the research method that they are telling stories about. The multiple theoretical or empirical perspectives capture a rich landscape, in which the presence of digital technology entails the emergence of new practices, techniques, environments and devices, or new ways of making sense of technology in research, teaching and learning.

Book The Future of Inclusive Education

Download or read book The Future of Inclusive Education written by Valentina Migliarini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-02-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the tensions of existing theories and practices of inclusive education from an international perspective. Adopting Disability Critical Race Theory in Education (DisCrit) and Critical Disability Studies (CDS), the authors expose how race neutral knowledge characterizes inclusive education and exhorts readers to consider how intersectional perspectives provide more complex and nuanced understandings about ways in which racism and ableism simultaneously circulate as intersecting oppressions in schools and societies and across geographical borders. The authors begin by engaging in a critical analysis of the genesis of inclusive education before exploring how existing policies and practices of inclusive education in the global North evade the collusive nature of oppressions faced by minoritized students with disabilities and are uncritically transferred into the global South. Ultimately, the book encourages readers to reconceptualize inclusive education and move towards developing and sustaining transformative notions of global justice.

Download or read book Inclusive Education written by Silvia Zanazzi and published by Edizioni Nuova Cultura. This book was released on 2018-03-30 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting in the 1970s, the Italian government has passed a set of legislative provisions known as integrazione scolastica. Separate special education classes were abolished and all students were admitted into mainstream schools, regardless of any disability, impairment, or any other personal characteristic or social circumstance. The Italian model seems to be an ideal context for the development of inclusive education when compared to other realities in Europe and in the world, where, in some cases, special schools and/or classes are still the only available options for students with disabilities or impairments. Does such perception correspond to reality? This book aims to critically analyse and discuss the Italian model of inclusive education from international and intercultural perspectives, as a way to address a crucial theme for educators, school administrators, policymakers, citizens and parents.

Book The Platonic Tradition in the Middle Ages

Download or read book The Platonic Tradition in the Middle Ages written by Stephen Gersh and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-02-06 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays delineates the history of the rather disparate intellectual tradition usually labeled as "Platonic" or "Neoplatonic". In chronological order, the book covers the most eminent philosophic schools of thought within that tradition. The most important terms of the Platonic tradition are studied together with a discussion of their semantic implications, the philosophical and theological claims associated with the terms, the sources that furnish the terms, and the intellectual traditions aligned with or opposed to them. The contributors thereby provide a vivid intellectual map of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period. Contributions are written in English or German.

Book Language and Experience in 17th Century British Philosophy

Download or read book Language and Experience in 17th Century British Philosophy written by Lia Formigari and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this volume is the crisis of the traditional view of the relationship between words and things and the emergence of linguistic arbitrarism in 17th-century British philosophy. Different groups of sources are explored: philological and antiquarian writings, pedagogical treatises, debates on the respective merits of the liberal and mechanical arts, essays on cryptography and the art of gestures, polemical pamphlets on university reform, universal language scheme, and philosophical analyses of the conduct of the understanding. In the late 17th-century the philosophy of mind discards both the correspondence of predicamental series to reality and the archetypal metaphysics underpinning it. This is a turning point in semantic theory: language is conceived as the social construction of historical-conventional objects through signs and the study of strategies we use to bridge the gap between the privacy of experience and the publicness of speech emerges as one of the main topics in the philosophy of language.
