Book Benjamin Garver Lamme Electrical Engineer

Download or read book Benjamin Garver Lamme Electrical Engineer written by Benjamin Garver Lamme and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Benjamin Garver Lamme, Electrical Engineer: An Autobiography To appreciate the kind and quality of his work, the reader must have in mind the conditions in the electrical industry when he entered it and the remarkable develop ments which followed rapidly. To these he contributed an outstanding part. During the 8o's, while he was in school and college, electric lighting and railways had their commercial be ginning. The particular problems of those years were to design and make dynamos and motors which were larger and more dependable and to transmit electric current to greater distances and make it more generally useful. In 1890 electric service was practically limited to local lighting and the operating of small electric railways. Few dynamos exceeded one or two hundred horse power, and different types were necessary to furnish current for are lamps, for incandescent lamps (some direct current, some alternating current) and for street cars. Dynamos and motors were of many types and forms, the product of many inventors, mainly by cut - and-try methods. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women of Science is a collection of essays dealing with contributions women have made to various scientific disciplines, written by women scientists in those disciplines. The areas covered are: astronomy, archaeology, biology, chemistry, crystallography, engineering, geology, mathematics, medicine, and physics. The women who have written these essays are, for the most part, not professional historians, but rather scientific professionals who felt the necessity of researching the contributions women have made to the devlopment of their fields. The essays are unique, not only because they recover lost women who made significant contributions to their disciplines, but also because they are written with a depth of understanding that only a scientist working in a specific area can have. The essays will be of interest not only to students (especially women students) of science who may be unaware of the many contributions women have made, but also to readers of the history of science whoses texts more often than not fail to include the work of most women scientists.
