Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Existing studies of e-government concentrate on the supply-side by focusing on the availability and level of sophistication of online services and usage. This study addresses the demand-side of e-government - not only usage, but also perceptions and barriers to utilisation that have not been treated previously. Indicators to measure acceptance and adoption of e-government were used to build two surveys that were then piloted among members of the 'general population' in the 15 EU Member States, Switzerland and Europe and to decision makers (IT managers) in the commercial sector in seven EU countries"--P. 1.

Book Benchmarking Muslim Well being in Europe

Download or read book Benchmarking Muslim Well being in Europe written by Pamela Irving Jackson and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining an urgent topic for many nations around the world, this book aims to reverse the commonly held belief that recent Muslim immigrants to Europe have failed to integrate satisfactorily into European culture. The authors look at Muslim communities in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom--countries with a range of differing strategies for coordinating ethnic and state identities. Using the European Parliament's benchmarking guidelines, surveys, and other data, they find several locations where Muslims are in fact more integrated than popularly assumed. Additionally, they show that many Muslim communities, despite a desire for fuller integration, find their opportunities blocked.

Download or read book Benchmarking Working Europe 2014 written by Institut syndical européen pour la recherche, la formation et la santé et sécurité and published by ETUI. This book was released on 2014-05-07 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report Benchmarking Working Europe 2014 reviews the crisis and EU austerity policies in the last five years from the point of view of Europe's social agenda. The publication, written by the research team of the ETUI, offers an overview of the most important statistics on the EU’s macroeconomic situation, labour market developments, inequality and poverty, deregulation of labour law, wages and collective bargaining, health and safety at work, worker participation rights and the impact of austerity on the green agenda. The Benchmarking Working Europe report comprises a critical, fact-based diagnosis of the first five years of the EU’s crisis management policies in view of the Europe 2020 agenda. It suggests that Europe finds itself “half-way through a lost decade” and provides the scientific underpinning of the ETUC’s political roadmap for a ‘new path for Europe’. The publication demonstrates that the European Union is in need of a fundamental change of course.

Book Benchmarking Working Europe 2012

Download or read book Benchmarking Working Europe 2012 written by European Trade Union Institute and published by ETUI. This book was released on 2012 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2001, the ETUC and ETUI have produced Benchmarking Working Europe for the European Social Summit to draw attention to the state of working Europe. This publication aims to provide a genuine benchmarking exercise applied to the world of labour and social affairs grounded in effective labour and social rights. It establishes what progress – or lack of it – has taken place in selected areas of significance for social Europe and of importance to the trade unions. This year’s edition of Benchmarking Working Europe focuses on what we see as one of the root causes of the great recession, namely the issue of inequalities going far beyond income inequality. Growing inequalities lead to growing feelings of injustice and lack of social cohesion both within and across countries, and at the same time, to a loss of human potential in its broadest sense. In this respect, this publication raises serious concerns as to the current direction of social and labour rights in the European Union. Four main messages which we would like to highlight are: 1. Social inequality, in its many forms, is worsening in nearly all EU countries, and not only on account of the succession of financial, economic and debt crises. 2. Between the EU member states, the trend for the poorer economies to catch up with the richer ones, leading to greater convergence has been halted and even reversed. 3. The European discourse that new post-crisis growth will solve the temporary phenomenon of rising inequalities is fundamentally flawed. The link between growth and equality has snapped and the tide is no longer rising for all. 4. The political remedies must in future focus on a redistribution and ‘deconcentration’ of wealth.

Book The Information Society in an Enlarged Europe

Download or read book The Information Society in an Enlarged Europe written by Soumitra Dutta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-11-22 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Europe enlarged its boundaries in 2004 with the accession of ten new member states to the European Union. The creation of an effective information society is seen as critical to the global competitiveness of Europe. Based upon detailed data collection and rigorous analysis, the book presents a benchmarking study of the 10 new member states and 3 candidate countries of the European Union as compared to the 15 incumbent countries with respect to the development of their information societies. Using a framework based on the Europe 2005 benchmarking framework, the 28 EU members and candidate countries are ranked according to their level of information society development, and then classified into 4 categories. The results presented in this book are of importance to all managers and companies doing business in the IT sector in the European Union.

Book Benchmarking Working Europe 2013

Download or read book Benchmarking Working Europe 2013 written by and published by ETUI. This book was released on 2013 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widening economic and social gaps among EU member states, as well as among different groups and categories of citizens within society, are not only placing in jeopardy the future of Social Europe but threatening to undermine also the whole project of European integration. The post-2008 recession and debt crisis, helped along by EU leaders’ obstinate clinging to the failing remedies of fiscal austerity, have accelerated the disenchantment of millions of European citizens with the half-century-old project to build and consolidate a European Union. This is one of the most striking conclusions of the ETUI’s Benchmarking Working Europe report for 2013. Benchmarking Working Europe is one of the ETUI’s regularly appearing flagship publications. Issued annually since 2002, the report offers an alternative perspective on EU developments. Using publicly accessible data, it reveals what is actually going on behind the EU social and economic affairs headlines. After last year’s issue focused on growing inequality in Europe, this year’s Benchmarking Working Europe report will demonstrate by means of hard-hitting graphs and cogent arguments that Europe is, rather than converging, actually drifting apart in numerous respects.

Book Benchmarking Telemedicine Improving Health Security in the Balkans

Download or read book Benchmarking Telemedicine Improving Health Security in the Balkans written by C.S. Stone and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2017-10-25 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Health security is dependent on many factors such as: individual government policies and regulations; budgets; management systems; and the collection, analysis, use, and protection of data. Telemedicine has the potential to change how healthcare is delivered around the world, and has developed to the point where it is possible for its use to become commonplace. The questions are, however, whether and how the use of telemedicine will improve health security in Southeast Europe. This book presents papers from the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on Benchmarking Telemedicine: Improving Health Security in the Balkans, held in Skopje, Macedonia, in November 2016. The aim of the workshop was to bring together people from a wide range of sectors within the telemedicine community with representatives of NATO Member and Partner countries to share information and develop solutions to health security issues. Participants addressed issues such as cyber security for the implementation of telemedicine; healthcare capabilities of deployed and local medical equipment; learning methods; information sharing among local professionals; prevention and control of infectious diseases; best practices of telemedicine among NATO Member and Partner countries; integration of telemedicine across regions and borders; and telemedicine implementation. The book will be of interest to all those wishing to gain a better insight into the implications of telemedicine for health security.
