Download or read book I Love Jesus But I Want to Die written by Sarah J. Robinson and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.
Download or read book The ABC s of Widowhood written by Pat Nowak and published by 1st Book Library. This book was released on 2003-08 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sudden paralysis is a circumstance no one wishes to get intimately familiar with, but such tragedies do unfortunately occur. In my own experience, I've learned that a mother will search desperately for the tools of education whenever they're required, but when my son was involved in a life-changing accident, I could find no shared experiences written of by another parent. After living through the experience of the accident's aftermath and the many months of rehabilitation, I was eventually able to sit down and put words onto paper in the hope that another mother would one day find my experience helpful during their own times of learning and searching. That immediate past so suddenly lost, without preparation of any kind, brought my old son into focus at the same time as my mind was trying to meet the new one-who was in many ways a stranger based on the physical limitations and changes now present in his life. During this time is when I met the ghost-- and the handsome man in the wheelchair. I was determined to do so positively, but had no instruction book on the new parenting needs. We learned together, all of us who loved my son, and I can now see that part of the lesson is that the ghost leaves us in his own time as we learn to let him go. There is no one-means or one-method lesson book. I have tried as honestly as I can to share my experience as a mother. My attempt is supported by my courageously inspiring son who was the motivator and teacher in many ways and by his younger brother who shared commitment and devotion with me. At the end of our story-which is truly a beginning of another-our lives are full and blessings continue to enrich our times together. The goal of this book is that the reader will find something that will take them through Hell Week to the start of their loved one's new life with more hope and confidence. Many have contributed to our progress; I hope I may contribute to the hopefulness of others in similar circumstances.

Download or read book In an Instant written by Lee Woodruff and published by Random House. This book was released on 2007-05-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In one of the most anticipated books of the year, Lee Woodruff, along with her husband, Bob Woodruff, share their never-before-told story of romance, resilience, and survival following the tragedy that transformed their lives and gripped a nation. In January 2006, the Woodruffs seemed to have it all–a happy marriage and four beautiful children. Lee was a public relations executive and Bob had just been named co-anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight. Then, while Bob was embedded with the military in Iraq, an improvised explosive device went off near the tank he was riding in. He and his cameraman, Doug Vogt, were hit, and Bob suffered a traumatic brain injury that nearly killed him. In an Instant is the frank and compelling account of how Bob and Lee’s lives came together, were blown apart, and then were miraculously put together again–and how they persevered, with grit but also with humor, through intense trauma and fear. Here are Lee’s heartfelt memories of their courtship, their travels as Bob left a law practice behind and pursued his news career and Lee her freelance business, the glorious births of her children and the challenges of motherhood. Bob in turn recalls the moment he caught the journalism “bug” while covering Tiananmen Square for CBS News, his love of overseas assignments and his guilt about long separations from his family, and his pride at attaining the brass ring of television news–being chosen to fill the seat of the late Peter Jennings. And, for the first time, the Woodruffs reveal the agonizing details of Bob’s terrible injuries and his remarkable recovery. We learn that Bob’s return home was not an end to the journey but the first step into a future they have learned not to fear but to be grateful for. In an Instant is much more than the dual memoir of love and courage. It is an important, wise, and inspiring guide to coping with tragedy–and an extraordinary drama of marriage, family, war, and nation. A percentage of the proceeds from this book will be donated to the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury.

N: Why didn’t you just walk away? R: I tried, but she grabbed my arm. Hey, why didn’t you do anything to stop it? N: I couldn’t. I was afraid, and I didn’t want the bully to get me, too. R: I understand. Next time, go get a teacher to help. N: What did you do about that? R: I asked her nicely to stop, but she just laughed at me. N: Did you try telling a teacher? Maybe they can help. R: Yes, many times, but they can’t do anything without proof. Part C: Cyberbullying Noah shows Ruth something on his cell phone. 諾亞給露絲看他手機裡的東西。 (Noah = N ; Ruth = R) N: Wow! You look really fat in this photo. When was that? R: Oh, no! Not again. That photo is a fake! N: That is your face, though, right? R: It is, but you can tell that somebody changed it. Where did you get it? N: Brittany sent it to me. It’s also all over Facebook. R: I know. I already asked that person to take the photo down. N: Well, they didn’t. What are you going to do? R: I’m going to tell the social media site about them.

Download or read book Fresh Off the Boat written by Eddie Huang and published by One World. This book was released on 2013-01-29 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NOW AN ORIGINAL SERIES ON ABC • “Just may be the best new comedy of [the year] . . . based on restaurateur Eddie Huang’s memoir of the same name . . . [a] classic fresh-out-of-water comedy.”—People “Bawdy and frequently hilarious . . . a surprisingly sophisticated memoir about race and assimilation in America . . . as much James Baldwin and Jay-Z as Amy Tan . . . rowdy [and] vital . . . It’s a book about fitting in by not fitting in at all.”—Dwight Garner, The New York Times NATIONAL BESTSELLER • NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY KIRKUS REVIEWS Assimilating ain’t easy. Eddie Huang was raised by a wild family of FOB (“fresh off the boat”) immigrants—his father a cocksure restaurateur with a dark past back in Taiwan, his mother a fierce protector and constant threat. Young Eddie tried his hand at everything mainstream America threw his way, from white Jesus to macaroni and cheese, but finally found his home as leader of a rainbow coalition of lost boys up to no good: skate punks, dealers, hip-hop junkies, and sneaker freaks. This is the story of a Chinese-American kid in a could-be-anywhere cul-de-sac blazing his way through America’s deviant subcultures, trying to find himself, ten thousand miles from his legacy and anchored only by his conflicted love for his family and his passion for food. Funny, moving, and stylistically inventive, Fresh Off the Boat is more than a radical reimagining of the immigrant memoir—it’s the exhilarating story of every American outsider who finds his destiny in the margins. Praise for Fresh Off the Boat “Brash and funny . . . outrageous, courageous, moving, ironic and true.”—New York Times Book Review “Mercilessly funny and provocative, Fresh Off the Boat is also a serious piece of work. Eddie Huang is hunting nothing less than Big Game here. He does everything with style.”—Anthony Bourdain “Uproariously funny . . . emotionally honest.”—Chicago Tribune “Huang is a fearless raconteur. [His] writing is at once hilarious and provocative; his incisive wit pulls through like a perfect plate of dan dan noodles.”—Interview “Although writing a memoir is an audacious act for a thirty-year-old, it is not nearly as audacious as some of the things Huang did and survived even earlier. . . . Whatever he ends up doing, you can be sure it won’t look or sound like anything that’s come before. A single, kinetic passage from Fresh Off the Boat . . . is all you need to get that straight.”—Bookforum
