Download or read book Behavior of Plain Concrete Under Various High Triaxial Compression Loading Conditions written by James Chinn and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triaxial compression tests were performed on 6-inch by 12-inch concrete cylinders. Axial pressures of up to 177,000 psi and lateral pressures of up to 75,000 psi were applied in the triaxial testing machine of the Bureau of Reclamation, Denver. Concrete mixes with average compressive strengths of 5,200 psi, 8,100 psi, and 8,700 psi were tested under four different types of triaxial compression. Type I and Type IV tests were run until the axial stress dropped or until 2 inches of axial deformation were produced. The results of the Type I and Type IV loadings differed little. Considerable bulging occurred, and it appeared that the average normal stress at midheight remained nearly constant during bulging and represented an approximate yield stress. Type II tests were run until the lateral stress had an effect. No drop-off of load occurred in the Type III tests, but the unconfined compressive strength of the concrete cylinders was decreased. The results obtained are in good agreement with those of previous investigators, but much higher stresses were attained in the present tests than in any previous tests. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manual of numerical methods in concrete aims to present a unified approach for the available mathematical models of concrete, linking them to finite element analysis and to computer programs in which special provisions are made for concrete plasticity, cracking and crushing with and without concrete aggregate interlocking. Creep, temperature, and shrinkage formulations are included and geared to various concrete constitutive models.

This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Structural Integrity of Recycled Aggregate Concrete Produced with Fillers and Pozzolans presents a review on the use of by-products, fillers and pozzolanic materials in the development of concrete, with an emphasis on structural integrity. The volume is broken down into key sections, including a review of the types of materials that are used as latent hydraulic supplements, fillers and pozzolans for making recycled aggregate concrete, rheology and hydration phenomenon, the mechanical and microscale nature of concrete, and the impact of fillers and pozzolans on the workability of concrete with case studies. Durability and strength development are also discussed. The final section looks at issues such as performance effect, LCA, environmental impact, sustainability and cost benefit analysis. With detailed case studies throughout, this volume will provide useful information for all stakeholders involved in the built environment, including materials scientists, civil engineers, builders, architects and policymakers. - Identifies several potential by-products, fillers and pozzolans for the development of durable concrete - Acts as a guidebook for constructors and researchers working in the broad field of material science, engineering and in-situ application - Presents the durability properties of concrete made of by-products, fillers and pozzolans

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A growing population and increasing urbanization over the past century have made it difficult to locate suitable ground for siting infrastructures in densely populated areas. The Deep Mixing Method (DMM) was developed and put into practice in Japan in 1975 to cope with the headaches of stability and/or excessive settlement in soft soil areas. This method involves using cement and/or lime as a soil stabilizer, added in-situ to deep soils, and has now been adopted not only in Japan but in the USA and other parts of the world as well. This book presents properties of this treated soil method, its various applications, its design and execution, and accumulated research results over the last twenty-five years.
