But life is not straightforward for the young lovers who become steeped in the quagmire of Kenyan politics, and are confronted with the sophistication of a new world, its economic hardships and brutality, and the racism and persistent inequities of the post-colonial and global society. Book A Fragile Stone

Download or read book A Fragile Stone written by Michael Card and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2009-08-20 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of a Chicago Book Clinic Design Award A Fragile Stone explores the dynamic life of the apostle Peter, revisiting well-known passages and revealing unexpected insights. Author Michael Card sketches out Peter's life, showing how the impetuous fisherman of the Gospels was transformed into the pivotal leader of the early church. "The ultimate reason for getting to know Peter," Card explains, "is so together we might better know Jesus. For the story of Peter is the story of Jesus. Perhaps, if you and I do our best, the same will be said of us someday." Peter's life serves as a model for Christian discipleship, offering hope that we likewise can be changed as Jesus calls us to follow him.

Book Before the Cock Crows

    Book Details:
  • Author : Alexandra Perkins
  • Publisher : Page Publishing Inc
  • Release : 2017-08-03
  • ISBN : 1640272267
  • Pages : 84 pages

Download or read book Before the Cock Crows written by Alexandra Perkins and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2017-08-03 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the Cock Crows is a prophetic look into the spiritual eyes of the bride of Christ in her slow decline into apostasy. In her naiveté, God’s beloved boldly boasts how she will never forsake the Lord. Yet her reflection in the mirror at this time bears a striking resemblance to the apostle Peter in the precise moments prior to his denying our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, not once, but on three separate occasions. This book is biblical in nature with a solid backbone of scriptures to back up and support the heavy weight of such critical subject matter as what will be the role of the Holy Spirit of God as compared to Christian believers during the time of the rule of the Antichrist; an explanation of what the mark on the forehead of God’s sheep is; God’s holy temples present, past, and future; how to spiritually eat the word of God; why a solo and intimate walk with God is so imperative in these latter days; spiritual transformation and renewal; and lastly, how all of these topics tie into the upcoming apostasy predicted by Jesus Christ so very long ago. Indeed, the cock will crow for the Christian Church, just as it crowed for Peter so very long ago. Although there have been many books published on the subject of apostasy throughout the years, Before the Cock Crows not only forewarns against and prepares its readers for the upcoming apostasy, but also teaches them how to develop a deep and intimate relationship with God along the way. This book is meant to reach a broad Christian audience, but more importantly this book was meant for such a time as this.

Book Take Hold of the Faith You Long For

Download or read book Take Hold of the Faith You Long For written by Sharon Jaynes and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2016-05-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the outside, many women are well-put-together Christians with trendy shoes, beautiful children, and wide, white smiles. On the inside, those same women are little girls cowering at the edge of the playground, hoping no one notices them, yet still wishing they could join in. They've professed faith and know the right things, but they struggle to truly take hold of the "life more abundant" that Jesus offers. Instead they settle for a life that's less than what God has promised them. In this liberating book, Sharon Jaynes reveals the most common reasons women get stuck with a mediocre, mundane faith. Then she shows women how to break free and move forward, leaving behind the feelings of inferiority, inadequacy, and insecurity that are holding them hostage. She uncovers untapped sources of confidence and courage, equipping women to move from knowing the truth to actually believing it--and living it out boldly in a life marked by true freedom.

Book Demolishing Supposed Bible Contradictions Volume 2

Download or read book Demolishing Supposed Bible Contradictions Volume 2 written by Tim Chaffey and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible is accurate and without error! Demolishing Supposed Bible Contradictions Volume 2 offers 40 powerful explanations to prove it. There is an increasing focus in our culture on dismissing the Bible and its authority. Generations of skeptics and the religion of evolution have influenced even some Christian leaders. By highlighting supposed errors or inconsistencies in the Bible, doubt is created in the minds of believers and stumbling blocks are put up for those trying to present the Gospel. But Biblical evidence disproves the toughest of critics while bringing to light the indestructible power of God’s Word. Tim Chaffey, Ken Ham, and Bodie Hodge of Answers in Genesis highlight the answers to these debates and more: Is all Scripture inspired by God, or is some of it the opinion of the writers of Scripture? After His resurrection, did Jesus first appear to the eleven disciples on a mountain in Galilee or in Jerusalem behind closed doors? Can God be tempted? Why don’t Christians follow all the Old Testament laws? Demolishing Supposed Bible Contradictions Volumes 1 and 2 are must-have references for every believer who wants to have an answer to give to those who ask a reason for their hope (1 Peter 3:15). Join the battle armed with the sword of Spirit, the truth that will defeat the lies aimed for this generation and those to follow.

Book Narrative Elements in the Double Tradition

Download or read book Narrative Elements in the Double Tradition written by Stephen Hultgren and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2002 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a long time mainstream gospel scholarship has assumed that the so-called Q material (the "double tradition") in Matthew and Luke represents a document or tradition that was almost exclusively orientated towards the sayings of Jesus of Nazareth, with little interest in a narrative about him. This book argues, on the contrary, that the narrative material in the double tradition existed from the very beginning within a coherent Jesus narrative that ran from his baptism to his passion. Far from being inserted by Matthew and Luke into the framework of Mark, the double tradition is structured on the very same narrative framework as the Gospel of Mark (a framework that predates Mark). Conventional dichotomies in gospel origins, the historical Jesus, and the history of early Christianity are thus drawn into question.

Book The Existential Jesus

  • Author : John Carroll
  • Publisher : Catapult
  • Release : 2009-01-01
  • ISBN : 1582434654
  • Pages : 285 pages

Download or read book The Existential Jesus written by John Carroll and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Upending Christianity's popular notion of Jesus the comforter, the good shepherd, the Lord, and the Savior, this completely new exploration of Mark's Life of Jesus reexamines the image presented in this earliest of the New Testament gospels—the mysterious stranger, the singular, abandoned, and solitary figure—and rethinks the current role of Western culture through a radically altered view of Christianity. The existential Jesus has no interest in sin, and his focus is not on an afterlife. He is anti–church, anti–establishment, anti–family, and anti–community; a teacher, with himself his only student, he gestures enigmatically from within his own torturous experience, inviting the reader to walk in his shoes and ask the question, Who am I? This book argues that Jesus is the West's great teacher on the nature of being. Incorporating a new translation of the Gospel of Mark from its original Greek, this radical reinterpretation identifies the philosophical and cultural significance of Jesus in the modern world, based on his life, actions, and reflections.

Book When You Don t Like Your Story

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bestselling author, cofounder of Girlfriends in God, and writer for Proverbs 31 Ministries Sharon Jaynes reveals the secret to living a better story: understanding that the worst parts of our past are the very things God uses most. Many people don't like the story God is writing in their lives. The mistakes, failures, tragedies, and circumstances outside of our control linger in our minds and hold us back. How do we come to grips with the pieces of our stories that we wish weren't there? How do we silence the pain of what has been done to us and the shame of what we've allowed to be done through us? In When You Don't Like Your Story, Bible teacher Sharon Jaynes shows us how God untangles our most painful emotions with the fingers of grace, putting his redemption on display. In the hardest parts of our narratives, we get to see God's greatest work--and this changes the ending of our stories. As we overcome shame, offer forgiveness, and use our stories to help others, we find freedom from the past and learn to live in the restoration of the present.
