Book excerpt: A slow-burn romance in a cutthroat kitchen! There’s more to becoming a top chef for 17-year-old Isabella Fields than just not getting chopped … especially when the chances of things heating up with an intriguing boy and becoming a food star in the kitchen are both on the line. Isa’s family life has fallen apart after the death of her Cuban abuela and the divorce of her parents. And after moving in with her dad and her new stepmom, Margo, in Lyon, France, Isa feels like an outsider in her father’s new life. She balances her time between avoiding the awkward “why-did-you-cheat-on-Mom” conversation and her diligent aspiration to become a premiere chef. Despite Isa’s world being turned upside-down, her father’s house is located only 30 minutes away from the restaurant of world-famous Chef Pascal Grattard, who runs a prestigiously competitive international kitchen apprenticeship. The prize job at Chef Grattard’s renowned restaurant also represents a transformative opportunity for Isa who is desperate to get her life back in order—and desperate to prove she has what it takes to work in an haute kitchen. But Isa’s stress and repressed grief begin to unravel further when the enigmatic Diego shows up at the house unannounced. How can Isa expect to hold it together when she’s at the bottom of her class at the apprenticeship, her new stepmom is pregnant, she misses her abuela dearly, and things with Diego reach a boiling point? Download or read book The Gothic Girl written by Xavier P. and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mayra is a different gothic girl who returns to her country trying to elude with it the ghost of her best friend who torments her. The point is that comes to a place that despite being a city, most of its inhabitants are dressed in denim clothing. The novel is inspired by the life of a real girl who belonged to such style and is narrated differently like some facts occurred, and others that probably would have passed, if there was existed will. I think the details that are told not differ much from the behavior of people or their imaginations. Although I know that this behavior of fantasy and poetry is not exclusive to them, I think most of them manifest more sensitivity to the things that surround them. I would like that to better understand the novel; reference is made to the details mentioned at the time they are indicated. This English version has been improved in its wording and added some changes in content. Thank you for your attention and I hope you enjoy it.

Book excerpt: When the mutilated body of Mayra Cabral de Melo, a well-known stripper, is found by the side of a dusty road, detective Edgar "Lefty" Mendieta has personal reasons for bringing the culprit to justice. Mayra had no shortage of ardent, deluded, and downright dangerous admirers, and Lefty himself is haunted by one steamy night he spent in her generous company. So begins an investigation that will bring him ever closer to the murderous world of the narcos, who are waging a war of bloody attrition against the Mexican state. The country is a powder keg, waiting for a spark, and Mendieta is about to enter the darkest days of his life. Corrupt politicians, failed boxers, and unscrupulous arms dealers all lie in wait along the path to justice. But none of this can prepare him for his run-in with the FBI, when the father of the president of the United States is attacked while on vacation in Mexico. For all these perils it is the weight of his own murky past that Lefty finds hardest to bear. And as he scratches around for clues, faced with a gallery of suspects who all have a motive and none of whom is a stranger to the dark arts of murder, the reappearance of Samantha Valdés, now the boss of the Cartel del Pacífico, adds one more jagged piece to an already unsolvable puzzle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In times when the chaotic mind and the society designed to separate man from his divine nature come together there could be no other result than the very loss of that connection resulting in stress, doubt, violence, depression, and a host of negative emotions rooted in an increasingly dominant mind over the will of the human being, and all this creating more emotions and consequent events that have made the human being believe that "such is life ..." and that it will always be so until his last day. The human being has completely lost the conviction or the knowledge that his life should be beautiful, that his life should be pretty, he has in his mind false truths learned from the involutive culture of today reaching the point of not knowing that he does not know about his divine nature where there is no what currently composes his Me or Ego, unknowns completely who he is within himself, all the happiness and truth that he seeks is lost in the depths of his consciousness, this book tries to help the human being to regain his harmony with the Existence.
Download or read book Lives in Transit written by Wendy A. Vogt and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lives in Transit chronicles the dangerous journeys of Central American migrants in transit through Mexico. Drawing on fieldwork in humanitarian aid shelters and other key sites, Wendy A. Vogt examines the multiple forms of violence that migrants experience as their bodies, labor, and lives become implicated in global and local economies that profit from their mobility as racialized and gendered others. She also reveals new forms of intimacy, solidarity, and activism that have emerged along transit routes over the past decade. Through the stories of migrants, shelter workers, and local residents, Vogt encourages us to reimagine transit as a site of both violence and precarity as well as social struggle and resistance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who Decides Who You Are? The personal is political. — Carol Hanisch What if you know something, but you're not sure what it is you know, and moreover, you're not sure anyone would believe you if you told them? P3 — Percy Abbott III — is afraid to find out. Jennifer's willingness to copyedit the reams of writing by inexperienced reporters makes the newsroom favorite. Nobody messes with the copyeditor! It's a rule. (And this gang of non-conformists have few rules they're willing to abide by.) But going out for coffee isn't going to hurt anything. Right? Portland is famous for its literary community of writers, readers, bookstores, coffeehouses, and literary magazines like the Portland Review — a part of Newsroom PDX. Covid had been devastating, but the literary community is coming back. But the scars from the pandemic haven't gone away. This is the seventh omnibus in Newsroom PDX, a pollical suspense series about a college newsroom in downtown Portland during some of the most tumultuous times the city has ever faced. Foul language. Some sex. Lots of politics. Rather like the city itself. This omnibus includes Who Do I Tell?, My Body, and A Literary Life.
