Book excerpt: Beating Bronchiectasis is one man's personal story of overcoming hopelessness in the face of rapidly-deteriorating health and being written off by the best doctors. Forced to take full responsibility for his own recovery, he researches and creates his own demanding plan to get back what he lost. The only question is: Will it work?During one particularly bad winter, Daniel's health started deteriorating rapidly in a downward spiral that lasted months. This free fall lasted until a life-altering appointment at the Mayo Clinic gave him the diagnosis: Bronchiectasis. But their only advice for him going forward was, ?Don't get sick.' Realizing his doctors had written him off, Daniel went into denial. His situation was dire'he was dying. But if he wanted to live, he had to take control of his health. Daniel built a healing dream team, including a medical concierge, and started moving slowly but surely on the journey to optimum health. As his story progresses, Daniel describes in great detail the tips and treatments he learns along the way. He describes how he found them, how he used them and what each of them did for him. The combined results of which were life-changing. After 18 months of following his regime every day, he regained his vitality and energy. Instead of waking up exhausted after sleeping for 14 hours, he now felt rested after eight. Instead of getting winded while walking, he could comfortably run a 10K (6.2 miles) in an hour. He increased his lung capacity and cleared out the mucus in his lungs and sinuses. In the end, he was finally able to breathe deeply and easily once again. His resounding victory is proof that you don't have to lie down and suffer in the face of debilitating illness.

Book How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease

Download or read book How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease written by United States. Public Health Service. Office of the Surgeon General and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report considers the biological and behavioral mechanisms that may underlie the pathogenicity of tobacco smoke. Many Surgeon General's reports have considered research findings on mechanisms in assessing the biological plausibility of associations observed in epidemiologic studies. Mechanisms of disease are important because they may provide plausibility, which is one of the guideline criteria for assessing evidence on causation. This report specifically reviews the evidence on the potential mechanisms by which smoking causes diseases and considers whether a mechanism is likely to be operative in the production of human disease by tobacco smoke. This evidence is relevant to understanding how smoking causes disease, to identifying those who may be particularly susceptible, and to assessing the potential risks of tobacco products.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bronchiectasis is a hot topic in respiratory medicine, attracting an increasing amount of interest from clinicians, scientists, physiotherapists and the pharmaceutical industry. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the disease in terms of the research performed, clinical management, classification and patient treatment. The disease is also very complex because it can be caused by multiple underlying disorders, meaning its clinical presentation is highly diverse. This Monograph will tackle these issues by providing a series of chapters from recognised world experts covering: clinical management, service delivery, pathophysiology, microbiology and underlying disorders. The book also addresses the challenges faced in clinical trials and the need for drug development, and presents a number of clinical cases designed to aid learning. The Bronchiectasis Monograph substantially integrates the 2017 ERS guidelines on management of these patients. It is an essential reference for anyone caring for bronchiectasis patients or engaged in bronchiectasis research.

Book How I Reversed My Moms Emphysema

Download or read book How I Reversed My Moms Emphysema written by William G. Miller and published by Optimal Health Protocols. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The amazing true story detailing my mother's complete recovery from emphysema. In my research on COPD I found Tobacco Control Studies showing fungal and mycobacterial spores in the exhale of smokers. In further research I found there were 7 fungi and mycobacteria that grew naturally on tobacco. I also found 6 bacteria and 3 oomycetes (water molds) that grew naturally on tobacco. I realized that maybe these spores are embedding themselves in the lungs of smokers and after decades of proliferation begin causing health issues and result in the COPD diagnosis. I developed a treatment program that would eradicate these mycobacteria and fungi from the lungs. My mother stayed on the restrictive diet and supplements that were all part of the alternative treatment program I developed that would eradicate mycobacteria and fungi. Amazingly, after 17 months on the diet and supplements she had completely recovered.

Download or read book Preterm Birth written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-05-23 with total page 791 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing prevalence of preterm birth in the United States is a complex public health problem that requires multifaceted solutions. Preterm birth is a cluster of problems with a set of overlapping factors of influence. Its causes may include individual-level behavioral and psychosocial factors, sociodemographic and neighborhood characteristics, environmental exposure, medical conditions, infertility treatments, and biological factors. Many of these factors co-occur, particularly in those who are socioeconomically disadvantaged or who are members of racial and ethnic minority groups. While advances in perinatal and neonatal care have improved survival for preterm infants, those infants who do survive have a greater risk than infants born at term for developmental disabilities, health problems, and poor growth. The birth of a preterm infant can also bring considerable emotional and economic costs to families and have implications for public-sector services, such as health insurance, educational, and other social support systems. Preterm Birth assesses the problem with respect to both its causes and outcomes. This book addresses the need for research involving clinical, basic, behavioral, and social science disciplines. By defining and addressing the health and economic consequences of premature birth, this book will be of particular interest to health care professionals, public health officials, policy makers, professional associations and clinical, basic, behavioral, and social science researchers.
