Book Bearing Strengths of Some Wrought aluminum Alloys

Download or read book Bearing Strengths of Some Wrought aluminum Alloys written by R. L. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although a number of investigations of the bearing strength of aluminum alloys have been made, the problem remains one of considerable interest to the aircraft industry. For this reason it has seemed advisable to make additional tests of the commonly used aircraft alloys in an effort to establish a better basis for the selection of allowable bearing values. Current design practice does not recognize the effect of edge distance upon bearing strengths, and for this reason edge distance upon bearing strengths, and for this reason edge distance was one of the principal variables considered in this investigation. The increasing emphasis being placed upon permanent set limitations makes it essential that more information on bearing yield phenomena be obtained.

Book Bearing Strength of Some Sand cast Magnesium Alloys

Download or read book Bearing Strength of Some Sand cast Magnesium Alloys written by R. L. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tests described in this report were undertaken to determine the bearing strength characteristics of some magnesium-alloy sand castings and the relation between these and the more commonly determined tensile properties. Although bearing strengths are probably not a very important factor in the design of most magnesium-alloy casting, some few data relating to this property are needed for correlation with the information available on magnesium-alloy sheet. Reference 2 indicates that the bearing strength of most magnesium alloys, both wrought and cast, may be taken as 1.6 times the tensile strength, provided the edge distance in the direction of stressing is not less than twice the diameter of the hole. Since this approximate rule was based on bearing tests of magnesium-alloy sheet only, some investigation of its applicability to sand castings is needed.

Book A Survey of the Literature on the Size Effect on Material Strength

Download or read book A Survey of the Literature on the Size Effect on Material Strength written by H. Leon Harter and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly 500 years ago, Leonardo da Vinci observed that long wires are weaker than short wires of the same diameter. The statistical theory of extreme values (weakest-link theory) plays a very important role in studies of the size effect; competing theories include the energy theory and the technological theory. Summaries are given of relevant publications identified in the course of a literature survey on the size effect. Since this survey was motivated by concern about the reliability of large composite aircraft structures, which are now coming into use, special attention is given to the size effect on composite materials and structures. An attempt is made to summarize the present state of knowledge and to identify unsolved problems requiring further research.

Book Turbulent Boundary layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two dimensional Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Turbulent Boundary layer Temperature Recovery Factors in Two dimensional Supersonic Flow written by Maurice Tucker and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical method is presented for obtaining turbulent temperature recovery factors for a thermally insulated surface in supersonic flow. The method is an extension of Squire's analysis for incompressible flow. The boundary layer velocity profile is represented by a power law and a similarity is postulated for squared-velocity the static-temperature-difference profiles.
