Book Multiple View Geometry in Computer Vision

Download or read book Multiple View Geometry in Computer Vision written by Richard Hartley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-03-25 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A basic problem in computer vision is to understand the structure of a real world scene given several images of it. Techniques for solving this problem are taken from projective geometry and photogrammetry. Here, the authors cover the geometric principles and their algebraic representation in terms of camera projection matrices, the fundamental matrix and the trifocal tensor. The theory and methods of computation of these entities are discussed with real examples, as is their use in the reconstruction of scenes from multiple images. The new edition features an extended introduction covering the key ideas in the book (which itself has been updated with additional examples and appendices) and significant new results which have appeared since the first edition. Comprehensive background material is provided, so readers familiar with linear algebra and basic numerical methods can understand the projective geometry and estimation algorithms presented, and implement the algorithms directly from the book.

Book Begat

Download or read book Begat written by David Crystal and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010-09-23 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do the following have in common? Let there be light -- A fly in the ointment -- A rod of iron -- New wine in old bottles -- Lick the dust -- How are the mighty fallen -- Kick against the pricks -- Wheels within wheels. They're all in the King James Bible. This astonishing book "has contributed far more to English in the way of idiomatic or quasi-proverbial expressions than any other literary source." So wrote David Crystal in 2004. In Begat he returns to the subject: he asks how a work published in 1611 could have had such an influence on the language and looks closely at what the influence has been. He comes to some surprising conclusions. No other version of the Bible however popular (such as the Good News Bible) or put upon the church (like the New English Bible) has had anything like the same impact. David Crystal shows how its words and phrases found independent life in the work of poets, playwrights, novelists, and politicians, and how more recently they have been taken up by journalists, advertisers, Hollywood, and hip-hop. He reveals the great debt the King James Bible owes to its English forbears, especially John Wycliffe's in the fourteenth century and William Tyndale's in the sixteenth. He also shows that the revisions and changes made by King James's translators were crucial to its universal success. "A person who professes to be a critic in the delicacies of the English language ought to have the Bible at his finger's ends," Lord Macaulay advised Lady Holland in 1831. David Crystal shows how true this is. His book is a revelation.

  • ISBN : 2315012015

Download or read book The Genius of Lies written by François Noudelmann and published by Max Milo. This book was released on 2024-10-02 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it a contradiction, a lie, a madness, a freedom to affirm a theory and live the opposite? Rousseau writes a treatise on education thanks to the abandonment of his five children, Kierkegaard composes religious texts while living as a libertine, Beauvoir founds the philosophy of feminism while enjoying a servile relationship with her American lover, Foucault exalts the courage of truth and organizes the secrecy of his Aids, Deleuze hates traveling and becomes the philosopher of nomadism. Who are we when we think? Several, no doubt, as shown by the thinkers who invent multiple personalities through their theories. Instead of denouncing their errors or hypocrisy, François Noudelmann studies the most complex lie, the one towards oneself, through the anxieties, fugues, and metamorphoses of these double-sided philosophers. François Noudelmann teaches at New York University, where he directs the Maison française. He has written numerous essays translated into a dozen languages, including Le toucher des philosophes : Sartre, Nietzsche et Barthes au piano (Gallimard, 2008), Le génie du mensonge (Max Milo, 2015) and Penser avec les oreilles (Max Milo, 2019).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultimately, I cannot accept the framework of experience demanded and presupposed by the orthodox ecclesiastical tradition. I think I must face this, with consequences I can't foretell. I have another tradition to which I am almost equally respectful--in some ways more so--the tradition of the human heart: novels, art, music, tragedy. I cannot allow that God can only be adored in spirit and in truth by the individual introverted upoon himself and detached from all that might disturb and solicit his heart. It must be possible to find and adore God in the complexity of human experience. --from the Introduction

Download or read book The Book of Books written by Melvyn Bragg and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The King James Bible has often been called the "Book of Books," both in itself and in what it stands for. Since its publication in 1611, it has been the best–selling book in the world, and many believe, it has had the greatest impact. The King James Bible has spread the Protestant faith. It has also been the greatest influence on the enrichment of the English language and its literature. It has been the Bible of wars from the British Civil War in the seventeenth century to the American Civil War two centuries later, and it has been carried into battle in innumerable conflicts since then. Its influence on social movements—particularly involving women in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries—and politics was profound. It was crucial to the growth of democracy. It was integral to the abolition of slavery, and it defined attitudes to modern science, education, and sex. As Lord Melvyn Bragg's The Adventure of English explored the history of our language, so The Book of Books reveals the extraordinary and still–felt impact of a work created 400 years ago.

Book Development in Multiple Dimensions

Download or read book Development in Multiple Dimensions written by Alexander Lee and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do some states provide infrastructure and social services to their citizens, and others do not? In Development in Multiple Dimensions, Alexander Lee examines the origins of success and failure in the public services of developing countries. Comparing states within India, this study examines how elites either control, or are shut out of, policy decisions and how the interests of these elites influence public policy. He shows that social inequalities are not single but multiple, creating groups of competing elites with divergent policy interests. Since the power of these elites varies, states do not necessarily focus on the same priorities: some focus on infrastructure, others on social services, and still others on both or neither. The author develops his ideas through quantitative comparisons and case studies focusing on four northern Indian states: Gujarat, West Bengal, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh, each of which represents different types of political economy and has a different set of powerful caste groups. The evidence indicates that regional variation in India is a consequence of social differences, and the impact of these differences on carefully considered distributional strategies, rather than differences in ideology, geography, or institutions.

Book The Multinational Enterprise in Developing Countries

Download or read book The Multinational Enterprise in Developing Countries written by Rick Molz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-25 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A key distinctive feature of Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) as organizations resides in the fact that they span across borders. This exposes them to dissimilar and often unfamiliar social and economic conditions as they venture in foreign countries. MNEs from industrialized economies that are active in developing countries and emerging markets face particularly challenging hurdles due to both economic and institutional discrepancies between their home and host countries. This book focuses on the uneasy interaction between the traditional logics of developing countries and the economic logic of MNEs. The traditional logics of most developing countries are built around community-based legitimacy and an intuitive but concrete epistemology. Conversely, the economic logic of MNEs from developed economies is built around technical and economic legitimacy and an abstract intellectual epistemology. Unpacking the uneasy interactions between these two logics will help achieve MNEs’ objectives of competitiveness in developing countries as well as globally. The Montreal Local Global Research Group is a well recognized research group in formulating and researching local and global issues in strategic management from the perspective of integrating divergent dominant logics into the strategy conceptualization process, and this will be the first book to be dedicated to the study of the interaction between the traditional logic of developing country and the economic logic of Multinational Enterprise (MNE). The cultural diversity of the contributing authors and the multidisciplinary approach offers a fresh perspective from which to explore beneficial corporate and local strategies that promote long-term economic growth consistent with local traditional and cultural norms. This collection will be primarily of interest to scholars of international business, international development, and economics. Furthermore, this book is immediately relevant to decision makers in Multinational corporations, NGOs and political decision makers that mediate the interaction between local actors and corporate agents in developing and transitional economies.

Book Order in the Amorphous State of Polymers

Download or read book Order in the Amorphous State of Polymers written by Steven E. Keinath and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1975, a symposium was held in Midland, Michigan, co-sponsored by the Dow Chemical Company and the then Midland Macromolecular Institute in honor of Raymond F. Boyer on the occasion of his 65th birthday and retirement from Dow. The topic of that first Boyer symposium dealt with an area of interest to Boyer, namely, polymer transitions and relaxations. One decade later, after ten years of additional fruitful scientific endeavor at MMI, Ray Boyer was again honored with a symposium, this time celebrating his 75th birthday and 10th anniversary at the Michigan Molecular Institute. The topic of the second Boyer symposium in 1985 was somewhat more focused, this time concentrating on the subject of order (or structure) in the amorphous state of polymers and the attendant polymer transitions that are observed. This volume contains the full manuscripts of the contributors to the 17th MMI International Symposium, held in Midland, Michigan on August 18-21, 1985. Eleven one-hour plenary lectures and ten 20-minute contributed papers were presented during the Symposium. An open forum panel discussion was also scheduled; the edited transcript of that session is included at the end of this volume. One of our tasks in organizing this Symposium was to attempt to gather together a number of speakers who would be able to define what, if any, physical structure might be present in anwrplwus polymers and what the nature of this order might be.

Book The Humility of Multiple Blessings

Download or read book The Humility of Multiple Blessings written by Dr. Dess Amanu and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-07-22 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Humility of multiple blessings highlights the extreme variations between the abundant amenities of life in the developed western world and the extreme abject-poverty abound in the underdeveloped world leading to destitution. While recognizing the missing hard work in some elements of the society at both ends, the book focuses on the abundance of possibilities so long as one does not yield to failures as the conclusive dead-end, but instead takes a positive look at the failures in order to reap beneficial outcomes by not accepting crushing defeatism. Countering the adversities, the author, brings to light the critical importance of extreme hard work to achieve a set goal laid out according to the will of God showered with blessings on a person. In fact, the author motivates, energizes and exhorts all generations never to take failure as permanent defeat, but instead keeping away from cutting corners to blame others rather than taking actin to work harder every step of the way until success is achieved, since it is doable. It is undeniable that failure is an integral part of a journey to success and simply a precious price we are bound to pay in order to achieve that most desirable success.
