Book Base Metal Sulfide Deposits in Sedimentary and Volcanic Environments

Download or read book Base Metal Sulfide Deposits in Sedimentary and Volcanic Environments written by Günther H. Friedrich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The geology and metallogeny of "base metal sulfide deposits" in Europe, Africa and Australia was the topic of the DMG-GDMB-SAG Joint Meeting held in Aachen (FRG), September 16-19, 1985. Divided into two parts, the presented papers cover the description and interpretation of sediment-hosted as well as volcanic-sediment-hosted and volcanic-hosted copper-zinc-lead (gold-silver) deposits. The present compilation is an overview of current research activities and results on copper-zinc-lead deposits in classical mining districts considering geological, lithological, geochemical and tectonic parameters of ore formation. Even in periods of depressed metal prices, "base metal sulfide deposits" still remain one of the most attractive mineral exploration targets. This extensive review provides valuable information to researchers and explorationists.

  • Author : Bozzano G Luisa
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2012-12-02
  • ISBN : 0444598952
  • Pages : 335 pages

Download or read book Regional Studies written by Bozzano G Luisa and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regional Studies is a collection of papers that deals with strata-bound mineral deposits in the Eastern Alps, in the Canadian Cordillera, in north-central, and southwest England. Other papers describe southern African stratiform ore deposits and the genesis of Irish base-metal deposits. One paper compares the various types of volcanogenic mineral deposits and their depositional environments characterized by distinct assemblages of volcanic rocks, which formed in the Northern Appalachians during certain episodes of the tectonic evolution. The paper notes that the youngest volcanogenic deposits of economic interest are tungsten—molybdenum—tin—bismuth base metal deposits in highly altered rhyolitic sub-volcanic complexes at Mount Pleasant, New Brunswick. Another paper reviews the mineral occurrences in southern Africa that include stratiform, non-magmatic, ore deposits, The paper considers a subdivision of deposits formed from surficial chemical processes during previous (or current) cycles of weathering and erosion. Many ore bodies have a dual origin: for example, the iron in the high-grade hematite deposits is partly syngenetic and partly epigenetic. The paper also illustrates the time-dependence of some stratiform ore deposits in southern Africa in a schematic diagram. Geologists, researchers, or engineers whose works are related with ore deposits and mining will benefit tremendously from the collection.

Book Metal Deposits in Relation to Plate Tectonics

Download or read book Metal Deposits in Relation to Plate Tectonics written by F. J. Sawkins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I attempt this volume with no small degree of trepidation, for despite the near universal acceptance of plate tectonic theory, and the undeniable sweep and power of the concepts in volved, points of controversy and uncertainty still abound. This is especially true with regard to the limited extent to which many ancient geologic terrains, however well studied, lend themselves to plate tectonic interpretation. There is also considerable controversy regarding the genesis of many metal deposits, and this impacts upon the degree to which such deposits can be meaningfully related to the tectonic settings in which they occur. It is relatively simple matter to point out that certain types of ore deposits exhibit impressive time-space associations with certain kinds of more recent plate boundary environ ments. It is also all too easy to possible plate tectonic-ore deposit relationships in ancient geologic terrains. What is more challenging is the recognition of the boundaries beyond which speculation is idle, but within which useful new insights regarding the relationship of certain ores to their lithologic and tectonic environments may emerge.

Book Organic Geochemistry

    Book Details:
  • Author : D. A. C. Manning
  • Publisher : Manchester University Press
  • Release : 1991
  • ISBN : 9780719036842
  • Pages : 698 pages

Download or read book Organic Geochemistry written by D. A. C. Manning and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The science of organic Geochemistry bridges the gap between living and fossil organisms. It is concerned with the processes by which organic material changes after death, during sediment burial, diagenesis and maturation, to produce gas, liquid petroleum and coal. It is equally concerned with the way in which organic matter of geological origin enters the biosphere and interacts with living organisms. Applications of organic geochemistry to the petroleum industry include exploration (developing the ability to predict the occurrence of petroleum within a sedimentary basin) and production (predicting the response of reservoir rocks to interaction with organic-rich pore fluids) as well as in fingerprinting oil spills.

Book Metallogenic Theory and Exploration Technology of Multi Arc Basin Terrane Collision Orogeny in Sanjiang Region Southwest China

Download or read book Metallogenic Theory and Exploration Technology of Multi Arc Basin Terrane Collision Orogeny in Sanjiang Region Southwest China written by Wenchang Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-08-24 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents a new structural model of “multi-arc-basin-terrane system” based on the in-depth research of the Nujiang-Lancangjiang-Jinshajiang region, especially several Paleo-Tethys ophiolitic mélange belts and sets of arc-basin systems, and a new orogenic model of “The Hengduan shan Mountains” based on penetrated research on spatial-temporal framework and orogenic models of different orogenic belts under large-scale strike-slip-shear-nappe structures evolution. The authors paid special attention on the coupling relation between orogeny and metallogenesis. The metallogenesis and dynamic process are probed under the crust–mantle interaction and material-energy exchange-transmission background and the tectonic units evolution. The ore genesis and distribution of deposits have been thoroughly analyzed, and the metallogenic theories of "multi-arc-basin-terrane" and "intracontinental tectonic transformation" in the Nujiang-Lancangjiang-Jinshajiang region have been carried out. This book also illustrates how to explore metallic deposits in the Nujiang-Lancangjiang-Jinshajiang region by using the metallogenic regulations. Meanwhile, this book has high reference value for researchers working in the fields of basic geology, environmental geology, and energy geology.
