Book Baryon Stopping in High Energy Collisions in the DPMJET III Model

Download or read book Baryon Stopping in High Energy Collisions in the DPMJET III Model written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The significant stopping of the participant nucleons in hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions is investigated with the Monte Carlo event generator DPMJET-III by introducing new diquark breaking diagrams. It is argued that a similar mechanism might also lead to baryon stopping in proton-proton collisions at collider and cosmic ray energies. Model results are compared to data on net-proton rapidity distributions in central nuclear collisions. In addition, extrapolations of spectrum-weighted moments and energy fractions to cosmic ray energies are given.

Book Dynamics of High energy Nucleus nucleus Collisions

Download or read book Dynamics of High energy Nucleus nucleus Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors use a Glauber multiple-collision model to examine the dynamics of nucleus-nucleus collisions. The model introduces a stopping law, which describes how a baryon loses energy in a baryon-baryon collision, and a particle production law, which is based on the baryon energy loss. The model gives results on the longitudinal energy loss which compare well with the recent WA80 experimental data for 16O on various targets at 60 and 200 GeV per nucleon. The stopping law that is needed to fit the experimental zero-degree spectra reveals that the degree of stopping in these high-energy nuclear collisions is high.

Book Baryon Stopping and Hadronic Spectra in Pb Pb Collisions at 158 GeV

Download or read book Baryon Stopping and Hadronic Spectra in Pb Pb Collisions at 158 GeV written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Baryon stopping and particle production in Pb+Pb collisions at 158 GeV/nucleon are studied as a function of the collision centrality using new proton, antiproton, charged kaon and charged pion production data measured with the NA49 experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). Stopping, which is measured by the shift in rapidity of net protons or baryons from the initial beam rapidity, increases in more central collisions. This is expected from a geometrical picture of the collisions. The stopping data are quantitatively compared to models incorporating various mechanisms for stopping. In general, microscopic transport calculations which incorporate current theoretical models of baryon stopping or use phenomenological extrapolations from simpler systems overestimate the dependence of stopping on centrality. Approximately, the yield of produced pions scales with the number of nucleons participating in the collision. A small increase in yield beyond this scaling, accompanied by a small suppression in the yield of the fastest pions, reflects the variation in stopping with centrality. Consistent with the observations from central collisions of light and heavy nuclei at the SPS, the transverse momentum distributions of all particles are observed to become harder with increasing centrality. This effect is most pronounced for the heaviest particles. This hardening is discussed in terms of multiple scattering of the incident nucleons of one colliding nucleus as they traverse the other nucleus and in terms of rescattering within the system of produced particles.

Book High Baryon Density from Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions

Download or read book High Baryon Density from Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quantitative model, based on hadronic physics, is developed and applied to heavy ion collisions at BNL-AGS energies. This model is in excellent agreement with observed particle spectra in heavy ion collisions using Si beams, where baryon densities of three and four times the normal nuclear matter density ([rho]0) are reached. For Au on Au collisions, the authors predict the formation of matter at very high densities (up to 10 [rho]0).

Book Study of Baryon Stopping Pion and Proton Production from 4 9 GeV Al Au Fixed target Collisions at STAR

Download or read book Study of Baryon Stopping Pion and Proton Production from 4 9 GeV Al Au Fixed target Collisions at STAR written by Todd Adler Kinghorn and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the goals of the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) Beam Energy Scan program is to explore whether signatures of the quark-gluon plasma can be turned off, search for a potential Quantum-Chromodynamic (QCD) critical point, as well as identify the phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter. This program ran from the years 2010 through 2014 and certain observables such as the directed flow of protons and higher moments of net-protons show features that may suggest some sort of transition to hadron-dominated matter below 20 GeV. The Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR) Fixed-Target program was created to extend center of mass energies below [square root sNN]= 7.7 GeV, down to [square root sNN]= 3.0 GeV, as these energies are not practical to do with colliding beams at RHIC. This will be crucial in the second phase of the Beam Energy Scan program, BES-II, as data from energies within this range may yield information of the phase transition. The capabilities of reconstructing interactions with a fixed-target geometry needed to be demonstrated for the future of the program in BES-II. In 2015, two test runs with a fixed-target geometry were done with the STAR detector; the first was Au + Au at [square root sNN] = 4.5 GeV and the second, a month later, was Al + Au at [square root sNN] = 4.9 GeV center-of-mass energy. This dissertation focuses on the asymmetric Al + Au collisions but will involve mentions of the Au + Au run. In this work, the spectra and rapidity density of [pi]− and p are measured at the top 0-5%, 5-10%, 10-15%, 15-20%, 20-25%, and 25-30% most central collisions. In addition, the "stopping" for protons will be discussed.

Book High Energy Hadron hadron Collisions

Download or read book High Energy Hadron hadron Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of a study on high energy collision with the geometrical model are summarized in three parts: (i) the elastic hadron-hadron collision, (ii) the inelastic hadron-hadron collision, and (iii) the ee− annihilation. For elastic collisions, a simple expression for the proton matter distribution is proposed which fits well the elastic {bar p}p scattering from ISR to S{bar p}pS energies within the geometrical model. The proton form factor is of the dipole form with an energy-dependent range parameter. The {bar p}p elastic differential cross section at Tevatron energies obtained by extrapolation is in good agreement with experiments. For multiparticle emission processes a unified physical picture for hadron-hadron and ee− collisions was proposed. A number of predictions were made, including the one that KNO-scaling does not obtain for e+e− two-jet events. An extension of the considerations within the geometrical model led to a theory of the momentum distributions of the outgoing particles which are found in good agreement with current experimental data. Extrapolations of results to higher energies have been made. The cluster size of hadrons produced in e+e− annihilation is found to increase slowly with energy.

Book High Energy Hadron hadron Collisions Dept of Physics and Astronomy Univ of Georgia Athens Georgia

Download or read book High Energy Hadron hadron Collisions Dept of Physics and Astronomy Univ of Georgia Athens Georgia written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of a study on high energy collisions with the geometrical model are summarized in three parts: (1) the elastic hadron-hadron collision, (2) the inelastic hadron-hadron collision, and (3) e[sup +]e[sup [minus]] annihilation. For elastic scattering, a modified form for the hadronic matter form factor of the proton was proposed which is still dipole in form but contains an energy--dependent range parameter. This new expression of the opacity function fits the elastic [bar p]p scattering very well from the ISR to S[bar p]pS energies. Extrapolation of this theory also yielded results [bar p]p in good agreement with the [bar p]p differential cross section measured at the Tevatron. For inelastic hadron-hadron collisions, we have made a systematic investigation of the single-particle momentum spectra in the entire S[bar p]pS energy region. Results are useful for the extrapolation of angular distribution to the higher SSC energies. In e[sup +]e[sup [minus]] annihilation, a detailed analysis of all available experimental multiplicity data from PETRA to LEP energies has been performed. The cluster size of emitted hadrons increases gradually with energy. Aside from high-energy collisions, the giant fullerene molecules were studied and precise algebraic eigenvalue expressions of the Hueckel problem for carbon-240 were obtained.

Book STOPPING AND BARYON TRANSPORT IN HEAVY ION REACTIONS

Download or read book STOPPING AND BARYON TRANSPORT IN HEAVY ION REACTIONS written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report I will give an experimental overview on nuclear stopping in hadron collisions, and relate observations to understanding of baryon transport. Baryon number transport is not only evidenced via net-proton distributions but also by the enhancement of strange baryons near mid-rapidity. Although the focus is on high-energy data obtained from pp and heavy ions from RHIC, relevant data from SPS and ISR will be considered. A discussion how the available data at higher energy relates and gives information on baryon junction, quark-diquark breaking will be made.
