Book Bargaining with Multinationals

Download or read book Bargaining with Multinationals written by H. Loewendahl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2001-07-19 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Bargaining with Multinationals , Loewendahl scrutinises the relationship between multinational companies, regional development and governments, using an international political economy framework of bargaining between government and multinationals. He critically analyses the role of foreign investment in economic development, and examines how governments can link inward investment to regional economic development. Based on extensive use of data, interviews and case studies of Siemens and Nissan's UK investment, the book shows why MNCs have invested in the UK in the past, how they bargained with the government, and what the impact was on the national and regional economies. In particular, through linking the strategy of multinationals to the location advantages of the UK, it is argued that labour flexibility and incentives were crucial to investment decisions. Loewendahl recommends a framework to integrate endogenous and exogenous approaches to developments; and proposes a greater role for the region and the EU to control incentives and monitor multinationals.

Book Multinational Enterprises and Government Intervention RLE International Business

Download or read book Multinational Enterprises and Government Intervention RLE International Business written by Thomas A Poynter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-04 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Government intervention can reduce the profits of multinational enterprises. These interventions also increase uncertainty and risk and distort trading and intra-firm sourcing patterns. The focus of this book is a corporate survival plan that describes how a multinational can monitor its exposure to intervention and then seek to reduce it. It reports on the successes and failures of firms as they implement various global management systems and recommends a general strategy. Such a strategy will allow multinationals to continue foreign investment with the longer term horizons that will benefit both the firms and their host countries.

Book Practical Solutions to Global Business Negotiations

Download or read book Practical Solutions to Global Business Negotiations written by Claude Cellich and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2012-01-11 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most significant developments in recent years has been the emergence of global markets, which has triggered opportunities for multinational firms to seek business across national borders. Global markets offer unlimited opportunities. But competition in these markets is intense. To be globally successful, companies must learn to operate and compete in multiple environments which may be different from the home environment. One important prerequisite for success in foreign markets is the ability to negotiate properly. Global business negotiations are affected by the cultural backgrounds of the negotiators, comprising language, cultural conditioning, negotiating style, approaches to problem solving, implicit assumptions, gestures and facial expressions, and the role of ceremony and formality. Therefore, negotiators assigned to deal with their foreign counterparts need a lot of learning and skills. With training and practice such learning and skills can be enhanced. The proposed book offers a practical guide to acquire negotiating skills. The purpose of this book is to provide consistently effective strategies and systematic approaches to negotiations that will dramatically improve international managers as negotiators. The book provides sufficient familiarity with negotiating styles that will help managers identify their unique strength and weaknesses, thus enabling them to interpret and comfortably use the latest advances in the field of negotiation in dealing internationally.

Book Multinationals in Latin America

Download or read book Multinationals in Latin America written by Robert Grosse and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multinational enterprises are particularly strong in Latin America and sensitive to political and economic changes there - the currently emerging debt crisis is likely to have far-ranging effects. This book considers multinationals in Latin America, both those from inside and those from outside the region, and discusses the major issues relating to them, e.g. trans-national regulation and the government/business relationships. It sets the discussions against the background of other work and theories of multinational enterprise. Novel features include the development of the author's bargaining theory of multinational enterprise and the attempt to create a systematic method for evaluating MNE acceptability for host governments (an important consideration since the relationship between multinationals and governments, particularly the way a government perceives a multinational, is crucial). The book concludes by assessing current trends and likely future developments.
