Download or read book Bitter is the New Black written by Jen Lancaster and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2006-03-07 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Jen Lancaster takes you from sorority house to penthouse to poorhouse in her hilarious memoir of living the sweet life—until real life kicked her to the curb. She had the perfect man, the perfect job—hell, she had the perfect life—and there was no reason to think it wouldn't last. Or maybe there was, but Jen Lancaster was too busy being manicured, pedicured, highlighted, and generally adored to notice. This is the smart-mouthed, soul-searching story of a woman trying to figure out what happens next when she's gone from six figures to unemployment checks and she stops to reconsider some of the less-than-rosy attitudes and values she thought she'd never have to answer for when times were good. Filled with caustic wit and unusual insight, it's a rollicking read as speedy and unpredictable as the trajectory of a burst balloon.
Download or read book Al Qaeda Pivot written by Larry Maynard and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SIX EYEWITNESSES ASSERT that they saw 9/11 terrorists in the Huntington-to-Hurricane stretch of West Virginia twenty-three months before the hijacking of four airliners and the devastating attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C. One witness said he sold them trailers to live in. TWO DAYS AFTER THE VISIT FROM the Al Shehri brothers and Abdulaziz Alomari and three other companions, Saturday October 9, and ten minutes before Superior's 5 p.m. closing time, salesman George Abboud, a Palestinian, came over to Larry Maynard's office and said: "Larry, there are two guys here who want to talk with you." Maynard excused himself from a couple with whom he'd been closing a sale and walked to the front of the dealership. Standing there he found Wail Al Shehri with another middle easterner. The second man stood about 5 foot 10, was clean shaven, and wore khaki Docker pants and a pullover shirt. He gave off an odor of cologne. "Larry," said Wail Al Shehri, "this is my friend who just came in from Germany. His name is Mohammad Atta. We came to buy the Cadillac." - From the back cover

Download or read book Disorder on the Border written by Joe Geiger, Jr. and published by 35th Star Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-02 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last half of the 1850s, the Virginia counties of Cabell and Wayne became immersed in the national debate over slavery. Located only a stone’s throw away from the free state of Ohio, some western Virginians practiced and defended slavery, and the contentiousness between supporters and those who opposed the institution increased dramatically as the nation moved closer to civil war. When the conflict erupted in 1861, disorder was the order of the day. Although the overwhelming majority of voters in Cabell and Wayne counties opposed the Ordinance of Secession, the most prominent and influential citizens in the area favored leaving the Union. When the state seceded, some who had opposed this step now cast their loyalty with Virginia rather than the Union. During and after the Civil War, dozens of skirmishes, raids, and armed encounters occurred in this border area, and the lengthy struggle only ended with the statewide Democratic victory in the 1870 election. Federal supporters in Cabell and Wayne counties lived through years of terror. Their efforts to save the Union and create the new state of West Virginia, and their willingness to die on behalf of the country ensured its survival from the greatest conflict in the history of the United States. Book excerpt: On February 5, 1954, an Air Force C-47 broke apart over the Susitna Valley of South Central Alaska and fell onto Kesugi Ridge. Six miraculously escaped, survived bone-chilling cold, and were rescued through the efforts of pilots Cliff Hudson and Don Sheldon. Unacquainted with one another before the accident, the Air Force men bonded in the hospital. Forty-two years later, the survivors and their families, the families of the victims, and rescuers came together for a reunion in Dayton, Ohio. It was a meeting that would change their lives. This is a true story, told by one of the survivors. Rupert Pratt's book celebrates life and friendship--themes set appropriately against the backdrop of Kesugi, "The Ancient One."

Still, perplexing Bible passages eat at us. In Twisted Scripture, Andrew skewers sacred cows and shatters destructive lies, bringing the undiluted truth about God's love and grace in a colorful and conversational look at the most controversial passages in the New Testament.
