Download or read book Southeast Asia written by Ian Glover and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive and absorbing book traces the cultural history of Southeast Asia from prehistoric (especially Neolithic, Bronze-Iron age) times through to the major Hindu and Buddhist civilizations, to around AD 1300. Southeast Asia has recently attracted archaeological attention as the locus for the first recorded sea crossings; as the region of origin for the Austronesian population dispersal across the Pacific from Neolithic times; as an arena for the development of archaeologically-rich Neolithic, and metal using communities, especially in Thailand and Vietnam, and as the backdrop for several unique and strikingly monumental Indic civilizations, such as the Khmer civilization centred around Angkor. Southeast Asia is invaluable to anyone interested in the full history of the region.

Download or read book Prehistoric Maritime Cultures and Seafaring in East Asia written by Chunming Wu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on prehistoric East Asian maritime cultures that pre-dated the Maritime Silk Road, the "Four Seas" and "Four Oceans" navigation system recorded in historical documents of ancient China. Origins of the Maritime Silk Road can be traced to prosperous Neolithic and Metal Age maritime-oriented cultures dispersed along the coastlines of prehistoric China and Southeast Asia. The topics explored here include Neolithisation and the development of prehistoric maritime cultures during the Neolithic and early Metal Age; the expansion and interaction of these cultures along coastlines and across straits; the "two-layer" hypothesis for explaining genetic and cultural diversity in south China and Southeast Asia; prehistoric seafaring and early sea routes; the paleogeography and vegetation history of coastal regions; Neolithic maritime livelihoods based on hunting/fishing/foraging adaptations; rice and millet cultivation and their dispersal along the coast and across the open sea; and interaction between farmers and maritime-oriented hunter/fisher/foragers. In addition, a series of case studies enhances understanding of the development of prehistoric navigation and the origin of the Maritime Silk Road in the Asia-Pacific region.

Download or read book Great Philippine Jungle Energy Caf written by Alfred A. Yuson and published by Anvil Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Great Philippine Jungle Energy Cafe, everything is happening under the light of eternity. So side by side occur the Revolution of ’96, the demos against Marcos in the ’80s, and banditry in the boondocks in the days of the Guardia Civil. Visayan scenery in Spanish times will conjure up the Silliman summer workshops of the 1960s, while the career of Leon Kilat is simultaneous with the writing of a screenplay based on his life. This hero who becomes a sacristan, who becomes a Singer salesman, who becomes a circus performer, who becomes a revolucionario, is a good a metaphor for the Filipino as any other.

Download or read book Abia South and Southeast Asian Art and Archaeology Index written by Karel R. Van Kooij and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the first tangible result of an international project initiated by the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) with the aim of compiling a bibliographic database documenting publications on South and Southeast Asian art and archaeology. The bibliographic information, over 1,300 records extracted from the database, forms the principal part of this publication. It is preceded by a list of periodicals consulted and followed by three types of indexes which help users to find their way in the ABIA South and Southeast Asian Art and Archaeology Index (ABIA Index). The detailed bibliographic descriptions, controlled keywords and many elucidating annotations make this reference work into an indispensable guide to recent scholarly work on the prehistory and arts of South/Southeast Asia.
