Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though the makeup of the church worldwide has undeniably shifted south and east over the past few decades, very few theological resources have taken account of these changes. Jesus without Borders — the first volume in the emerging Majority World Theology series — begins to remedy that lack, bringing together select theologians and biblical scholars from various parts of the world to discuss the significance of Jesus in their respective contexts. Offering an excellent glimpse of contemporary global, evangelical dialogue on the person and work of Jesus, this volume epitomizes the best Christian thinking from the Majority World in relation to Western Christian tradition and Scripture. The contributors engage throughout with historic Christian confessions — especially the Creed of Chalcedon — and unpack their continuing relevance for Christian teaching about Jesus today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More Christians now live in the Majority World than in Europe and North America. Yet most theological literature does not reflect the rising tide of Christian reflection coming from these regions. If we take seriously the Spirit's movement around the world, we must consider how the rich textures of Christianity in the Majority World can enliven, inform, and challenge all who are invested in the ongoing work of theology. Majority World Theology offers an unprecedented opportunity to enter conversations on the core Christian doctrines with leading scholars from around the globe. Seeking to bring together the strongest theological resources from past and present, East and West, the volume editors have assembled a diverse team of contributors to develop insights informed by questions from particular geographic and cultural contexts. This book features a comprehensive overview of systematic theology, with sections on the Trinity, Christology, pneumatology, soteriology, ecclesiology, and eschatology contributors including Amos Yong, Ruth Padilla DeBorst, Victor I. Ezigbo, Wonsuk Ma, Aída Besançon Spencer, Randy S. Woodley, Munther Isaac, and Veli-Matti Kärkkäinen explorations of how Scripture, tradition, and culture fit together to guide the church's theological reflection scholars demonstrating how to read the Bible and think theologically in light of contextual resources and concerns inside views on what doing theology looks like in contributors' contexts and what developments they hope for in the future When we learn what it means for Jesus to be Lord in diverse places and cultures, we grasp the gospel more fully and are more able to see the blind spots of our own local versions of Christianity. Majority World Theology provides an essential resource for students, theologians, and pastors who want to expand their theological horizons.

He intends to enlighten the curious reader with scripture and his own observations based on years of study and prayer, in turn bringing them closer to Christ. Gano has experienced trials, heartache, sickness, and pain. The enemy of his soul has attacked heartily, but he is sure of one thing: if God goes before him, who can stand against him? Book The Five Commandments of Jesus

Download or read book The Five Commandments of Jesus written by Patrick J. Amer and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In The Five Commandments of Jesus: A New Approach to Christianity, Patrick Amer presents to the ordinary Christian and the theologian alike his new, refreshing, and clear approach to the mission and meaning of Jesus of Nazareth. Amer identifies the five commandments of Jesus as central within the recorded ethical teachings of Jesus. These five commandments show the continued relevance and importance of Jesus in expressing God's will and plan for humankind. The book is clearly written and readily accessible to all readers. Discussion groups across denominations will find that this book meets each reader at the exact point at which we all find ourselves today." Roger Haight, S. J., Union Theological Seminary In this book, Patrick Amer describes his discovery of the five commandments of Jesus. He shows that the commandments are not a random selection of commands. They are an integrated and focused attack on humanity's most deeply embedded anti-social behaviors, those placed there by natural selection. He shows that these behaviors were in ancient times absorbed into humanity's public institutions, and they are still there. The kingdom of God is the community of men and women who live by the five commandments of Jesus, applying them in their personal lives and to public institutions as well. This book examines each commandment to show how it is to be practiced in one's personal life and how it is to be applied to public institutions. By practicing the five commandments of Jesus, the followers of Jesus participate in his redeeming mission and with him save the world.

Book Starting a Seeker Sensitive Service

Download or read book Starting a Seeker Sensitive Service written by Ed Dobson and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 1993 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about radical change. It is the story of how a traditional church launched a non-traditional service in order to open its doors to unchurched people. This book has grown out of five years of ministry to hurting people who are either skeptics, agnostics, or doubters of the Christian faith. It has been shaped by people who do not give much of a rip about God or the Bible, but they are at least willing to listen. It is a book about what I have learned from these fellow travelers in the adventure of life.

Seeker was not that individual. While leading a tranquil life with his young wife and a child on the way, he felt the quiet yet insistent whispers of his soul—asking for and wanting more—but he believed he had it all. After a tragic accident, his whispers grew more insistent, and in search of understanding, he began delving into the world of knowledge, reading everything in his town’s library, yet that elusive voice stayed with him still. Then one day—whether by dream or in waking life—a stranger wanders onto Seeker’s farm, challenging Seeker’s religious perspective. Annoyed, but intrigued, Seeker begins a journey into his unknown, finding the courage to address his soul’s whispers through the inner voice of the Holy Spirit. The Road of Discovery provides a wealth of knowledge and theological questioning, offering a gentle, yet challenging guidance towards the different perspectives of Biblical stories and how they translate into real life.

Download or read book New Wineskins written by Patrick J. Amer and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-12-23 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolutionary psychologists have shown that we have inherited from the higher animals and primitive humans certain instincts which were necessary for survival in prehistoric times, but which incline humans to hurt other humans. I call them the Antisocial Instincts, and I propose that they replace the doctrine of Original Sin. Jesus did not come to die for our sins. The idea that God had to sacrifice his only son to make things whole is a repugnant idea. Jesus came to teach, and his principal ethical teachings can be organized into five Precepts, which directly oppose the Antisocial Instincts in humans and their institutions. Teaching them is Jesus’s principal redemptive action. Jesus did not intend to accomplish the redemption by himself. He intended that his followers complete his redemptive activity by following his five Precepts and using them to reform humanity’s social and political institutions. By doing so, we can become followers of Jesus in his redemptive activity, and in this activity find meaning, hope, freedom, and authenticity.
