Download or read book The Holy See Social Justice and International Trade Law written by Rev. Dr. Alphonsus Ihuoma and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-06-30 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy See, Social Justice, and International Trade Law: Assessing the Social Mission of the Catholic Church in the GATT-WTO System highlights the uniqueness of the Catholic Church as the foremost institution in the world that can confront issues in world trade that affect the common good. The distinguished author Rev. Dr. Alphonsus Ihuoma provides a superbly broad and deep examination that is both scholarly and practical of the mission of the Catholic Church in the world as one that centers on the temporal and eternal needs of humanity. His discussion treats thoughtfully the mediatory role of the church in world affairs and argues persuasively that the church has been engaged in this role since its very beginning, even before nations embraced organized politics two thousand years ago. This remarkable book is a great tool for any reader seeking to know more about the unique position of the church in world affairs, especially in the GATT-WTO system. The book rightly lauds the churchs achievements in history. But it equally and rightly argues that the church must do more to address present challenges in the world trading system. Readers will be enlightened by the treatment of the failures of the GATT-WTO system in pursing the objectives for which it was established, the churchs efforts to pursue vital related objectives, and the need for her to do more.

Download or read book Latin America And The Caribbean In The International System written by G. Pope Atkins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth edition of this widely praised text has been thoroughly revised to reflect the evolving characteristics of the current international system that have had a dramatic effect on every aspect of international relations of Latin America and the Caribbean. The original purpose of this book is unchanged: It continues to provide a topically current and analytically integrated survey of the region's role in the world. Still organized around the idea of Latin America and the Caribbean as a separate subsystem within the global international system, the discussion gives special emphasis to complex interstate and transnational structures and processes. Within this framework, Atkins analyzes the foreign policies of the Latin American states themselves and those of the United States and other countries toward Latin America and the Caribbean. He also looks closely at the nature and role of transnational actors in the region, such as the multinational corporations, the Holy See, Protestant Churches, transnational political parties, international labor, nongovernmental organizations, and others. He gives special attention to Latin American participation in international institutions at all levels.
Download or read book Holy Places in the Israeli Palestinian Conflict written by Marshall J. Breger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-12-16 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the major generators of conflict and toleration at shared holy places in Palestine and Israel. Examining the religious, political and legal issues, the authors show how the holy sites have been a focus of both conflict and cooperation between different communities. Bringing together the views of a diverse group of experts on the region, Holy Places in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict provides a new and multifaceted approach to holy places, giving an in-depth analysis of relevant issues. Themes covered include legal regulation of holy places; nationalization and reproduction of holy space; sharing and contesting holy places; identity politics; and popular legends of holy sites. Chapters cover in detail how recognition and authorization of a new site come about; the influence of religious belief versus political ideology on the designation of holy places; the centrality of such areas to the surrounding political developments; and how historical background and culture affect the perception of a holy site and relations between conflicting groups. This new approach to the study of holy places and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has great significance for a variety of disciplines, and will be of great interest in the fields of law, politics, religious studies, anthropology and sociology.

Download or read book Pressed by a Double Loyalty written by András Fejérdy and published by Central European University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-10 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Second Vatican Council is the single most influential event in the 20th century history of the Catholic Church. The book analyzes the relationship between the Council and the "Ostpolitik" of the Vatican through the history of the Hungarian presence at Vatican II. Pope John XXIII, elected in 1958, was a catalyst. The pope thought that his most urgent task was to renew contacts with the Church behind the iron curtain. Hungarian participation at the Council was also made possible by the new, pragmatic model in Hungarian church politics. After the crushing of the 1956 Revolution, churches in Hungary thought that the regime would last and were willing to compromise. Vatican II – in the perspective of Hungary – was not primarily an ecclesial event, but it remained closely joined to the negotiations between the Holy See and the Kádár regime: during the Council Hungary became the experimental laboratory of the Vatican's new eastern policy. Was it a Vatican decision or a Soviet instruction? Fejérdy suggests that it was a decision of the Holy See.

This book was released on 2022-05-08 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The assessment in Rome of American Catholic Church’s potential and its problems began in the 1880s at the moment when the Holy See was looking for a way to overcome its political marginalization following the capture of Rome on September 20, 1870. In fact, the Vatican was transforming its world-wide religious network into a diplomatic one geared to sustain the international aims of a State that had lost its territory. Moreover, we should not underestimate the migration factor in the Italian Peninsula: the Italian diaspora was growing and Italian members of the Curia were worrying about the future of those who were flowing to the United States and other “Protestant” countries. At the same time, a number of the Vatican diplomats foresaw the shifting religious balance in North America as a result of the increase in Catholic migrants.
