Download or read book Design and Analysis of Ecological Experiments written by Samuel M. Scheiner and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001-04-26 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecological research and the way that ecologists use statistics continues to change rapidly. This second edition of the best-selling Design and Analysis of Ecological Experiments leads these trends with an update of this now-standard reference book, with a discussion of the latest developments in experimental ecology and statistical practice. The goal of this volume is to encourage the correct use of some of the more well known statistical techniques and to make some of the less well known but potentially very useful techniques available. Chapters from the first edition have been substantially revised and new chapters have been added. Readers are introduced to statistical techniques that may be unfamiliar to many ecologists, including power analysis, logistic regression, randomization tests and empirical Bayesian analysis. In addition, a strong foundation is laid in more established statistical techniques in ecology including exploratory data analysis, spatial statistics, path analysis and meta-analysis. Each technique is presented in the context of resolving an ecological issue. Anyone from graduate students to established research ecologists will find a great deal of new practical and useful information in this current edition.
Download or read book Design and Analysis of Ecological Experiments written by Sam Scheiner and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-24 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this book is to make some underutilized but potentially very useful methods in experimental design and analysis available to ecologists, and to encourage better use of standard statistical techniques. Ecology has become more and more an experimental science in both basic and applied work, but experiments in the field and in the laboratory often present formidable statistical difficulties. Organized around providing solutions to ecological problems, this book offers ways to improve the statistical aspects of conducting manipulative ecological experiments, from setting them up to interpreting and reporting the results. An abundance of tools, including advanced approaches, are made available to ecologists in step-by-step examples, with computer code provided for common statistical packages. This is an essential how-to guide for the working ecologist and for graduate students preparing for research and teaching careers in the field of ecology.
Download or read book Functional Analysis in Applied Mathematics and Engineering written by Michael Pedersen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting excellent material for a first course on functional analysis , Functional Analysis in Applied Mathematics and Engineering concentrates on material that will be useful to control engineers from the disciplines of electrical, mechanical, and aerospace engineering. This text/reference discusses: rudimentary topology Banach's fixed point theorem with applications L^p-spaces density theorems for testfunctions infinite dimensional spaces bounded linear operators Fourier series open mapping and closed graph theorems compact and differential operators Hilbert-Schmidt operators Volterra equations Sobolev spaces control theory and variational analysis Hilbert Uniqueness Method boundary element methods Functional Analysis in Applied Mathematics and Engineering begins with an introduction to the important, abstract basic function spaces and operators with mathematical rigor, then studies problems in the Hilbert space setting. The author proves the spectral theorem for unbounded operators with compact inverses and goes on to present the abstract evolution semigroup theory for time dependent linear partial differential operators. This structure establishes a firm foundation for the more advanced topics discussed later in the text.

This thought-provoking book examines the socio-legal mechanisms that drive EU constitutional tensions, as well as the role of principles and values in re-directing EU law and policy towards a democratic Social Europe. It addresses the current limits of Social Europe in relation to different areas of EU law, offering a critical assessment of the present status of EU integration.
Download or read book Laboratory Methods for Soil Health Analysis Soil Health series Volume 2 written by Douglas L. Karlen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-08-24 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laboratory Methods for Soil Health Analysis Analyzing, comparing, and understanding soil health data The maintenance of healthy soil resources is instrumental to the success of an array of global efforts and initiatives. Whether they are working to combat food shortages, conserve our ecosystems, or mitigate the impact of climate change, researchers and agriculturalists the world over must be able to correctly examine and understand the complex nature of this essential resource. These new volumes have been designed to meet this need, addressing the many dimensions of soil health analysis in chapters that are concise, accessible and applicable to the tasks at hand. Soil Health, Volume Two: Laboratory Methods for Soil Health Analysis provides explanations of the best practices by which one may arrive at valuable, comparable data and incisive conclusions, and covers topics including: Sampling considerations and field evaluations Assessment and interpretation of soil-test biological activity Macro- and micronutrients in soil quality and health PLFA and EL-FAME indicators Offering a practical guide to collecting and understanding soil health data, this volume will be of great interest to all those working in agriculture, private sector businesses, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic-, state-, and federal-research projects, as well as state and federal soil conservation, water quality and other environmental programs.

Download or read book Data Analysis in Astronomy IV written by R. Buccheri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book are reported the main results presented at the "Fourth International Workshop on Data Analysis in Astronomy", held at the Ettore Majorana Center for Scientific Culture, Erice, Sicily, Italy, on April 12-19, 1991. The Workshop was preceded by three workshops on the same subject held in Erice in 1984, 1986 and 1988. The frrst workshop (Erice 1984) was dominated by presentations of "Systems for Data Analysis"; the main systems proposed were MIDAS, AlPS, RIAIP, and SAIA. Methodologies and image analysis topics were also presented with the emphasis on cluster analysis, multivariate analysis, bootstrap methods, time analysis, periodicity, 2D photometry, spectrometry, and data compression. A general presentation on "Parallel Processing" was made which encompassed new architectures, data structures and languages. The second workshop (Erice 1986) reviewed the "Data Handling Systems" planned for large major satellites and ground experiments (VLA, HST, ROSAT, COMPASS-COMPTEL). Data analysis methods applied to physical interpretation were mainly considered (cluster photometry, astronomical optical data compression, cluster analysis for pulsar light curves, coded aperture imaging). New parallel and vectorial machines were presented (cellular machines, PAPIA-machine, MPP-machine, vector computers in astronomy). Contributions in the field of artificial intelligence and planned applications to astronomy were also considered (expert systems, artificial intelligence in computer vision).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first Asia-Pacific edition of Reilly/Brown’s Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management builds on the authors’ strong reputations for combining solid theory with practical application and has been developed especially for courses across the Australia, New Zealand, and Asia-Pacific regions. The real-world illustrations and hands-on activities enhance an already rigourous, empirical approach to topics such as investment instruments, capital markets, behavioural finance, hedge funds, and international investment. The text also emphasises how investment practice and theory are influenced by globalisation.
