Book Back to Life Back to Reality

Download or read book Back to Life Back to Reality written by Steven Desantis and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an information-based literature that unwinds what we were taught to deem healthy. The medical system has displayed many untruths to society, which has only made us more sick and reliant on medicinal drugs to combat our issues. This book unravels many dogmatic systems that have been placed in society for the main reason of making more money for the pharmaceutical industry working against us, not for us. This book was written because one man (Steven) refused to allow these so-called truths to go unnoticed. The book is intended to provide a platform for people to stand on and believe in the power of nature and not a manufacturing system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I must be the indecision king. Sometimes the toughest decisions to me are made completely easy by someone else’s gentle touch. In this case, it was my dental hygienist who led me down the path of becoming a complete intellect again, after an almost full recovery from an ill-ness known as viral encephalitis, which is an injury to the brain, that may be fatal. I wanted to blame myself for every negative decision, but after an eight-year struggle in which my life had nearly been ended by encephalitis and the traumatic brain injury it caused, I wonder “Why me?”. It is really almost too hard to explain unless you have had to live it day in and day out.

I chose to return when I realized that 'heaven' is a state, not a place" In this truly inspirational memoir, Anita Moorjani relates how, after fighting cancer for almost four years, her body began shutting down—overwhelmed by the malignant cells spreading throughout her system. As her organs failed, she entered into an extraordinary near-death experience where she realized her inherent worth . . . and the actual cause of her disease. Upon regaining consciousness, Anita found that her condition had improved so rapidly that she was released from the hospital within weeks—without a trace of cancer in her body! Within this enhanced e-book, Anita recounts—in words and on video—stories of her childhood in Hong Kong, her challenge to establish her career and find true love, as well as how she eventually ended up in that hospital bed where she defied all medical knowledge. In "Dying to Be Me," Anita Freely shares all she has learned about illness, healing, fear, "being love," and the true magnificence of each and every human being!

Book Action Research for Sustainability

Download or read book Action Research for Sustainability written by Jonas Egmose and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2015-02-28 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can action research further new research orientations towards sustainability? This book, empirically situated in the field of upstream public engagement, involving local residents, researchers and practitioners in bottom-up processes deliberating on urban sustainability, answers this question by analysing processes of social learning. The book addresses the need to move towards sustainability at societal level as a democratic challenge questioning the way we live on planet earth. By conceptualising sustain-ability as an immanent and emergent ability of ecological and social life, continuously to renew itself without eroding its own foundation of existence, it argues that since sustainability cannot be invented but only supported (or eroded) by science, we need to reframe science in the role of sustaining sustain-ability. Through analyses of a three year action research programme, aiming to provide local citizens with a greater say in the future of urban sustainability research, this book shows how action research can make important methodological contributions to processes of social learning between citizens and scientists by enabling free spaces in peoples everyday life and within academia, where aspects of un-sustainability can be addressed and new imaginations of more sustainable futures emerge.

Book excerpt: Callie Clarke is in debt. Not through any fault of her own; no one could accuse her of being a "spendaholic" or a "shopaholic" she simply squanders all her income on the mortgage repayments and household bills and has to do her food shopping on credit cards if she wants to eat each month. Once she was a young mom with a husband and two small sons. Then her husband left, and she had to bring up her boys on her own. Now they are grown up, and Callie is middle-aged, but the small borrowings have escalated over the years and accumulated like rolling a snowball to make a snowman, but this particular "snowball" has rolled its way steadily through two decades and is now of a humungous size, big enough to crush her if she's not careful. Juggling debts has taken over Callie's life (almost). Clearly, something needs to be done, but what? Join Callie as she battles her way through a maelstrom of debt, desperately trying to find solutions to her problems, while at the same time holding down her secretarial job and engaging in all aspects of family life in Tony Blair's Britain in the first decade of the twenty-first century, occasionally seeking solace in the past as she looks nostalgically back to what now appears to be simpler times when all she wanted was to be Hayley Mills. It is a story about struggle and hardship but also of the strong bond of love and affection that family members have for one another, the importance of family life over everything else, and ultimately, the triumph of that love, coupled with faith and hope, over adversity.

  • Author : Carl Hancock Rux
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster

Download or read book Asphalt written by Carl Hancock Rux and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-06-15 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Already a celebrated performance artist, vocalist, poet, playwright, and visionary, Carl Hancock Rux now presents a brilliant debut novel--a profound and lyrical portrait of urban life that will take its place among the classics of American literature. Racine is a reserved young man, but his passion for music lights him up inside. He's just returned from Paris where he'd been invited by a friend to produce music, make recordings, and earn a living. The plan didn't quite pan out, and now he's back in New York, where fate, providence, or just plain chance leads him to a once-glorious brownstone turned into a squat by a few eccentric loners. There's Manny, who wears sarongs and glitter but has no trouble attracting beautiful women, and Couchette, a gorgeous second-generation dancer whose mother has gone to Bali to live and bear a child with a man who built her a house in the midst of a rice paddy. What binds the characters is a deep sense of loss. Each is--like the city they live in--wounded and seeking healing and connection with and through the other housemates. Rux's poetic fiction blurs the lines between characters' dreams, memory, and reality. Asphalt--the name representing the essence of the city and the hard, layered, yet vulnerable sensibility of its inhabitants--is part post-modern parable, part urban mythology, and altogether relevant to contemporary reality. Asphalt is daring and unforgettable, marking the arrival of an original and astounding new voice in American literature.

Book excerpt: A New York Times Notable Book A Kirkus Reviews Best Book of 2012 A bold approach to understanding the American evangelical experience from an anthropological and psychological perspective by one of the country's most prominent anthropologists. Through a series of intimate, illuminating interviews with various members of the Vineyard, an evangelical church with hundreds of congregations across the country, Tanya Luhrmann leaps into the heart of evangelical faith. Combined with scientific research that studies the effect that intensely practiced prayer can have on the mind, When God Talks Back examines how normal, sensible people—from college students to accountants to housewives, all functioning perfectly well within our society—can attest to having the signs and wonders of the supernatural become as quotidian and as ordinary as laundry. Astute, sensitive, and extraordinarily measured in its approach to the interface between science and religion, Luhrmann's book is sure to generate as much conversation as it will praise.

Book Relocations

    Book Details:

  • Publisher : NYU Press
  • Release : 2011-08
  • ISBN : 0814783090
  • Pages : 300 pages

Download or read book Relocations written by Karen Tongson and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What queer lives, loves and possibilities teem within suburbia’s little boxes? Moving beyond the imbedded urban/rural binary, Relocations offers the first major queer cultural study of sexuality, race and representation in the suburbs. Focusing on the region humorists have referred to as “Lesser Los Angeles”—a global prototype for sprawl—Karen Tongson weaves through suburbia’s “nowhere”spaces to survey our spatial imaginaries: the aesthetic, creative and popular materials of the new suburbia. Across southern California’s freeways, beneath its overpasses and just beyond its winding cloverleaf interchanges, Tongson explores the improvisational archives of queer suburban sociability, from multimedia artist Lynne Chan’s JJ Chinois projects and the amusement park night-clubs of 1980s Orange County to the imperial legacies of the region known as the Inland Empire. By taking a hard look at the cosmopolitanism historically considered de rigeur for queer subjects, while engaging with the so-called “New Suburbanism” that has captivated the national imaginary in everything from lifestyle trends to electoral politics, Relocations radically revises our sense of where to see and feel queer of color sociability, politics and desire.

Book Radiation Raver

Download or read book Radiation Raver written by Shaun K. Kearney and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: December 1999 and most people world wide were looking forward to the Millennium rollover into the year 2000. I was a normal, married with kids, middle aged standard South African guy with all my dreams for 2000 about to happen, when one doctor shattered everything with the statement, Did no one tell you that you have cancer. The Radiation Raver is a name that was given to me by a very good friend, after I survived 42 days of extreme radiation treatment for Stage Four Head and Neck cancer. Today I had the bottom row of teeth extracted and false teeth fitted. The noise coming from the linear accelerator was similar to that of a frustrated bee stuck in a bottle. The problem was that I was inside the linear accelerator. This machine that they put you in is quite something else. Large and creepy. All alone in the middle of the room. One way windows all around. No bright lights, just the glow from the machine. The story that follows is a documented journey of survival, from diagnosis through the surgeries and complications,to the point where we are today, many years later. This is my way of sharing my experience of cancer with the world. Nobody ever ruined their eyes by looking on the bright side of things. Enjoy. Shaun K Kearney A.K.A The Radiation Raver September 2013
