Download or read book BABAR Results on CP Violation in the B sup 0 System written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The BABAR detector, operating at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B Factory, has collected a sample of 32 million B[bar B] pairs by May 2001, at energies close to the[Upsilon](4S) resonance. The measurement of sin2[beta]= 0.59[+-] 0.14(stat)[+-] 0.05(syst), performed with a study of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays, establishes CP violation at the 4[sigma] level. In addition, preliminary results on CP-violating asymmetries in the decay channel B[sup 0][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup -] are presented.

Book excerpt: The BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B factory at SLAC has collected over 37 106 BB pairs in the years 2000 and 2001. Based on this data sample, various studies of CP violation in the B system are presented, including the first observation of CP violation outside the kaon system and a measurement of the CKM parameter sin(2[beta]) = 0.59 ± 0.14(stat) ± 0.05(syst). Studies on direct CP violation and CP violation in mixing are also presented.

Book CP Violation From Quarks to Leptons

Download or read book CP Violation From Quarks to Leptons written by M. Giorgi and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2006-07-25 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a long time after the discovery in 1964, by Christenson, Cronin, Fitch and Turlay, that the long-lived neutral kaon decays both into three and into two pions, which has since been taken as proof of CP violation, successive new and more precise experiments confirmed the original evidence and provided results compatible with a phenomenological description confining the CP violation to the mixing between neutral kaons and antikaons. However the Standard Model, with three generations of quarks, linking as it does CP violation to the presence of a single non trivial phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix, implies that if CP violation exists at all, then it is a general property of weak interactions, appearing in transitions were amplitudes involving all three quark families interfere with each other, producing effects with a magnitude related to that of the CKM coefficients. This fact has stimulated an impressive amount of theoretical work leading in many cases to precise predictions. This publication reviews the field, from both the theoretical and experimental point of view, while planning for the forthcoming experimentation at LHC and considering possible new facilities for kaon, B meson and neutrino physics. Download or read book B Factories written by Boštjan Golob and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: B Factories are particle colliders at which specific subatomic particles - B mesons - are produced abundantly. The purpose is to study the properties of their decays in great detail in order to shed light on a mystery of eminently larger scale: why do we live in a universe composed of anti-matter? This book introduces readers to the physics laws of the CP asymmetry, touching on experimental requirements needed to perform such measurements at the subatomic level, and illustrating the main findings of the contemporary B Factories.

Book New Results From BABAR

Download or read book New Results From BABAR written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric B factory at SLAC has collected a large sample of data at the[Upsilon](4S) resonance. I will summarize BABAR's new results on CP violation, B mixing and lifetimes, and a selection of rare B decays. In particular, I will describe in detail the measurement of the CP violating parameter sin2[beta]; BABAR has observed CP violation in the neutral B system finding sin2[beta]= 0.59[+-] 0.14[+-] 0.05.

Book Observation of CP Violation in the B sup 0 Meson System

Download or read book Observation of CP Violation in the B sup 0 Meson System written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present an updated measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in neutral B decays with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. This result uses an additional sample of[Upsilon](4S) decays collected in 2001, bringing the data available to 32 million B[bar B] pairs. We select events in which one neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in final state containing charmonium and the flavor of the other neutral B meson is determined from its decay products. The amplitude of the CP-violating asymmetry, which in the Standard Model is proportional to sin2[beta], is derived from the decay time distributions in such events. The result sin2[beta]= 0.59[+-] 0.14 (stat)[+-] 0.05 (syst) establishes CP violation in the B[sup 0] meson system. We also determine[lambda]= 0.93[+-] 0.09 (stat)[+-] 0.03 (syst), consistent with no direct CP violation.

Book B Physics Cp Violation 99 3rd Intl Conf

Download or read book B Physics Cp Violation 99 3rd Intl Conf written by Wei Shu Hou and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-12-29 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CP violation was first observed in 1964, but only in 1999 did we gain much greater experimental insight. Direct CP violation finally appeared in the form of ε′/ε in the K system. Indirect CP violation in B → J/Ψ Ks decay, the raison d'être for construction of e+e- B factories, was first sniffed out at the proton-antiproton collider. The asymmetric B factories — BABAR at SLAC and BELLE at KEK — were completed, while the symmetric B factory at Cornell was upgraded to CLEO-III. It seems that everyone is positioning himself for the great competition on “B Physics and CP Violation”, racing to unravel the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, especially the size and origin of CP phases. The change of millennium provides a dramatic backdrop. To have intensive discussions at the technical level, to create broader interest in the subject, and to maximize interaction between experimenters and theorists, this book starts with the status of B factories: accelerator, detector and physics analysis. Following an overview of B physics and the CKM matrix, it delves into the details of lifetime, spectroscopy and decays, with even more specialized discussions on rare decays, direct and indirect CP violation, factorization and final state interactions, determination of unitarity phases, etc. Topics on ε′/ε, rare K decay, charm and hyperon systems, and various T, CP and CPT tests are also discussed at length. The book closes with the outlook for hadron machines and the prospects for new physics. A special feature is that there are two summary talks, one on experiment and the other on theory. The book is further augmented by two dozen excellent contributed talks.
