Book Riding on a Tiger

Download or read book Riding on a Tiger written by Awori, Arthur Moody and published by Moran Publishers. This book was released on 2020-02-27 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arthur Moody Awori known as "Uncle Moody", is a veteran Kenyan politician who served as the ninth Vice President of Kenya from 25 September 2003 to 9th January 2008. Riding on a Tiger is an epic journey of discovery. It is the story of a man lured by both the thrill of adventure and the courage to lose sight of the shore to discover the mysteries of the sea of life. This work seeks to reconstruct the author’s beginnings in a large God-fearing family in the early decades of the 20th century and how those beginnings became the anvil on which his character as an unrelenting businessman and philanthropist were forged. In this bare-all work, Moody Awori, or Uncle Moody as many have come to fondly call him, says it all. From how he came to live in whites-only neighbourhoods before his time, through the plunge into the tumultuous world of politics, to what led to the much-famed prison reforms. It is a story of a nation as seen through the eyes of one who has seen it all.

Book African Women and Intellectual Leadership

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the pioneering roles of African women as leaders and role models in Kenya, providing examples taken from across education, health, business, and a range of other sectors. Drawing on authentic first-hand accounts and narratives from key women in leadership positions, and those who have lived with them, the book presents the life stories of women leaders over the last fifty years, aiming to preserve their contributions for posterity and to inspire young people with moral, ethical, and progressive role models. The book uses African knowledge production strategies that look at the human being holistically, in the prism of Ubuntu, in order to define leadership in Africa from an African perspective, one that celebrates the role of the mother figure and places women at the centre of African values and societal dynamics. Book Seeds of Conflict in a Haven of Peace

Download or read book Seeds of Conflict in a Haven of Peace written by Frans Wijsen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 7 August 1998 the American embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam were bombed and 200 people lost their lives. These bombings shattered the image of Africa’s tradition of peaceful religious coexistence. Since then inter-religious dialogue has been high on the agendas of ecclesial and religious organisations, but not so much of faculties of theology and departments of religion in East Africa. This book investigates why this is so. How are interreligious relations dealt with in Africa, and more particularly, how are they and how should they be taught in institutions of higher learning? This book is based on fieldwork in Nairobi from 2001 onwards. It shows why Africa’s tradition of peaceful co-existence is not going to help Africa in the 21st century, and recommends a shift in the education in inter-religious relations: from religions studies to inter-religious studies.
