Download or read book Awesome Wonders written by Jane Tan and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-07-30 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Without warning, death robs a first generation Christian of her husband of 42 years and her partner in life and ministry. God had saved his life miraculously time and again, so Jane questions, “Why now, Lord? Why now?” After all, she had experienced God bringing a comatose man back from the brink of death; she had seen with her eyes how God loosened invisible chains that bound a woman to her idols; she had trembled with awe as her particular ailment—a cyst at the tip of her tongue—had been called out in the midst of thousands, so specifically, for healing at a Christian conference. So why didn’t God intervene to save her husband Kane’s life now? Kane had just retired after 15 years in pastoral ministry and they were in the midst of a project in the Philippines to reach out to those trapped in a cycle of abuse and poverty. As her faith is tested, Jane draws on all her experiences of the awesome wonders of God to combat her grief and continue her husband’s legacy.

Book Awesome Wonders of our Amazing World

Download or read book Awesome Wonders of our Amazing World written by Elaine L. Mroczka and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-01-20 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lessons Learned from Our Travels Travel broadens our minds, but until we leave our "safe home space" and have seen how other people live, we really can't grasp that concept! Until one venture out into the world, all we really know is our own existence. We really have no idea how others around the world survive, what they're experiencing, or the conditions others are facing to meet their needs. When one witnesses firsthand the extreme poverty in many parts of the world, it is truly an eye-opener! Some people are forced to sell their children in order to buy food to survive. Many cultures still persecute people and prevent them from many of the accepted freedoms we have here in America. Wars are being fought in many parts of the world, with people barely surviving. We are so blessed in this country to have the freedoms that we have but are often taken for granted. Travel allows us to really see the world as it is today and how we should never take anything for granted again! Having traveled to most parts of the world, we've found that people are all basically the same! No matter what our ethnicity, race, religion, gender, or culture, we all need the same basic things. Shelter, food, and clothing are most necessary to provide comfort in our lives. They may look different, taste different, or be different, but they still serve the same purposes for all of us. After those basic needs are met, most humans want good jobs to provide a decent living for themselves and their families. People all over the world want their children to succeed and be happy. Peace, health, safety, education, security, and acceptance are also desired by mostly everyone no matter where they live in the world. My grandma and parents always taught me the "golden rule" to treat others the way I would want to be treated. I have found that when I applied that simple rule, it was a great way to get along with people in any part of the world. Greeting people with a kind smile, sharing thoughtful words, and showing an interest in another person's culture are simple things to do but accomplish much. If people would just realize that we're all very much alike, embrace the few differences we have, and show respect for one another, then possibly, our world could truly experience peace on earth!

Book excerpt: Prompted by a friend to describe Jesus as he is--not as he was or will be in the coming days--Dick Eastman found himself stammering. What followed over many months was a desire to get to know the Jesus who had changed his life, but in a much fuller and richer way--now! From then on, on scraps of folded paper in his pockets, Eastman found himself recording adjectives describing the nature and character of Jesus Christ, expanding them later into a personal devotional journal. Eastman's approach to studying the nature and names of Jesus will bring you closer to your Savior. Each day of this enriching 31-day resource consists of Scripture, a short exposition, insights from Christian leaders, a prayer, and a practical application to help deepen your faith. You, too, will find Jesus awesome!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A poet celebrates the wonders of nature in a collection of essays that could almost serve as a coming-of-age memoir.” —Kirkus Reviews As a child, Nezhukumatathil called many places home: the grounds of a Kansas mental institution, where her Filipina mother was a doctor; the open skies and tall mountains of Arizona, where she hiked with her Indian father; and the chillier climes of western New York and Ohio. But no matter where she was transplanted—no matter how awkward the fit or forbidding the landscape—she was able to turn to our world’s fierce and funny creatures for guidance. “What the peacock can do,” she tells us, “is remind you of a home you will run away from and run back to all your life.” The axolotl teaches us to smile, even in the face of unkindness; the touch-me-not plant shows us how to shake off unwanted advances; the narwhal demonstrates how to survive in hostile environments. Even in the strange and the unlovely, Nezhukumatathil finds beauty and kinship. For it is this way with wonder: it requires that we are curious enough to look past the distractions in order to fully appreciate the world’s gifts. Warm, lyrical, and gorgeously illustrated by Fumi Nakamura, World of Wonders is a book of sustenance and joy. Download or read book Trials written by William Robert and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be called "human"? How does this nomination affect or effect what it means to be called "divine"? This book responds to these related questions in intertwined explorations of the passionate trials-examinations, tests, and ordeals-of Antigone and Jesus. Impelled by her love of the impossible, Antigone crosses uncrossable boundaries, transgresses norms of kinship and mortality, confounds distinctions of nature and culture, and, in the process, unearths and critiques the sexism implicit in humanism. Antigone thus disrupts humanist traditions stretching from Sophocles to Martin Heidegger-traditions that would render her subhuman or inhuman. She survives these exclusions and engenders a new mode of humanity, one that destabilizes classic oppositions of life and death and affirms mortal finitude in the face of the future's unforeseeability. This new mode of humanity offers a new way of considering Jesus, whom Christianity identifies as human and divine. Building on his reading of Antigone, the author, through a close reading of Mark's gospel focused on Jesus' cry of abandonment from the cross, shows that to refigure humanity is also to refigure divinity and their relation. In the first extended treatment of Jean-Luc Nancy's Corpus in English, the author draws on the theoretical insights of Jacques Derrida and Nancy to propose an innovative account of Jesus' humanity and divinity-one that can contribute to religious understandings of embodiment and prayer and can open avenues of inquiry into tragedy, sexual difference, posthumanism, and politics. By pairing Antigone and Jesus and engaging the work of Judith Butler, Simone Weil, Jean-Louis Chr tien, and Dominique Janicaud, this book constructively participates in interdisciplinary conversations at the nexus of religious, philosophical, literary, and gender studies.

Book excerpt: Prior to 2008 it was not even possible that Bill Vincent would have set down to write about Signs and Wonders. The reason being is that Bill didn't even believe in any manifested signs & wonders. Bill Vincent was a Pastor in Litchfield, IL and was invited to a David Herzog meeting. They said to him come on there will be gold dust in the meeting. Bill responded what is that for? Bill told them he wanted something tangible from God not some gold dust. Little did he know gold dust was definitely from God? You will either love it or hate it, but all of this book is backed up with the truth of scripture. Bill has experienced some of the most glorious times in God's Presence. Bill has seen and has been a Sign and Wonder. God has shown His awesome wonders to and through Bill so much that it seems like a dream. Whether it's gold dust, multi colored dust, gold flakes, gold nuggets, feathers, glory clouds, misting rain, gemstones, diamonds, mounted rings and more. God's Glory can manifest some of the most strange but real Signs. Bill has been told by some ministers that have experienced signs and wonders that we were blessed greatly to see all that we've seen. God moved more in this type of manifestations more when it was just a few people. Bill believes it is because of the unity we had. It takes pressing in unity together for God, that brings His Glory and releases His signs and wonders. We will have full color pictures of Signs and Wonders that have happened since 2008. We believe and hope you will to. In God's Glory anything can happen. God wanted Bill to say this here. You read this book expecting Signs and Wonders to happen and they will.

Download or read book World of Wonders written by Alf Hiltebeitel and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This is the first book in over a thousand years to approach the Mahābhārata and the Harivaṃśa via rasa theory. It argues that both texts put adbhutarasa, the "mood of wonder," to work as their dominant rasa, in a way that takes readers from their heroes' rollicking adventures to the text's profoundest moments. Two Kashmiris, Ānandavardhana (9th century) and Abhinavagupta (10th century), launched such inquiry, claiming that the Mahābhārata's dominant rasa was śāntarasa, the "mood of peace." Both worked the Harivaṃśa as a related text into their argument, which emphasized peace along with dispassion and the quest for liberation. Although they used some textual highjinks to make their case, their argument prevailed, and has remained the only serious contestant for rasic interpretation. This book disputes their claim, and can expect controversy. Some may continue to favor śāntarasa. Some may cite the two Kashmiris' view that adbhuta cannot sustain a major work. This book contests that by putting "the work of adbhutarasa" into its title and arguing for the hard work it does. Some may also be uncomfortable with a temporal incongruity the book poses in that the Mahābhārata and Harivaṃśa are probably four or five centuries earlier than the first text to explore rasas, the Nāṭyaśātra. Śāntarasa faced the same problem but Ānandavardhana and Abhinavagupta, lacking a modern sense of the relative dates, overlooked it. The answer here goes to the heart of this book's argument: our texts deploy the "proper terms" adbhuta, "wonder" and vismaya, "surprise," to work adbhutarasa through rich and contrasting textual strategies. They must have worked out their program with these terms before the śāstra"--
