Furthermore, it investigates what impact Greek foreign relations had on the domestic development, particularly in relation to the establishment of the dictatorship in 1967the so-called Colonels Regime. The Second World War disrupted the Greek economy, polarized politics and left Greece in a state of severe economic and social disorder. The Axis occupation was followed by civil war with devastating consequences and the Greek Civil War was one immediate reason for the declaration of the Truman Doctrine in 1947. The Truman Doctrine made Greece subject to the most costly overseas American aid program ever in peace time. However, gradually, West Germany became the b

Book That Knock at the Door

Download or read book That Knock at the Door written by Holly S. Fenelon and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A blue star for each family member serving in America's military... a gold star if that life was lost in defense of the nation's freedom. IN WORLD WAR I, the American tradition of the service flag began. Families displayed a simple fabric banner with a blue star for each family member serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. If a family member died in the nation's service, a gold star covered that individual's blue star on the family service flag. Not a symbol of mourning, the gold star represented the family's pride and the honor and glory accorded to that individual for making the supreme sacrifice in defense of the America's freedom. Soon, the term "gold star mother" came to be used to identify and honor women who had lost a son or daughter in wartime military service. Following the war, as the nation focused its attention on those veterans who had returned whole in mind and body, gold star mothers served as a constant reminder of the true cost of war. In 1928, a group of these women formed American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., an organization created to honor those who had died by being of service to veterans and their families in need, supporting gold star families, and caring for veterans who had returned with physical, emotional and psychological wounds. From that humble beginning, American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. has become an icon of national service, opening its membership time and again to gold star mothers of later wars and conflicts, including Iraq and Afghanistan. Their amazing legacy of service is an important yet largely unknown chapter in American history. This book presents the story of gold star mothers in America and the first comprehensive history of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., drawn from nearly a century of archival materials. The fascinating story of the strong women who honored their fallen sons and daughters by dedicating themselves to the service of veterans and peace is both compelling and inspiring.

Book Marriage For Life

Download or read book Marriage For Life written by Kenneth Alford and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of our story is to show how one relationship can lead to a fulfilled life that can include adventure and raising a family as well. Our lives were blessed due to devotion to each other and always returning to the basics. Money was never an issue or concern because we always had a goal of reaching the latter years with the assurance that we would never have to be a burden to our children. To start life together means setting realistic goals from the beginning, including preparing for careers that would be fulfilling as well as providing for the future. Keeping a positive attitude through life can be a major attribute that must be cultivated to best keep on a path that leads to a fruitful ending and must include a devotion to God daily. Keeping active and developing daily routines that include social and personal health should be included as part of daily and weekly routines. Square dancing and camping were activities that kept us active and contributed to a healthy lifestyle. Raising children must be planned with the goal of ensuring development of productive individuals, but perfection must not be instilled in individuals that have a unique personality, recognizing that what is expected may not be a fruitful goal on your part. Our story is not a perfect example but is offered, not to help develop how a couple should pattern their marriage but offer an insight that worked for us.
