Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the Indian Air Force had not put our troops airlifted in the early hours of 27th October, 1947 from Delhi on the ground at Srinagar which was menacingly threatened by Pakistan forces, the history and map of India might well have been quite different. In those momentous hours the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, in a heroic joint operation, began to roll back the blatant aggression of Pakistani military and save Jammu & Kashmir from the marauders. Independent India’s first war started with no other means available to assist the beleaguered local forces; and Indian Army troops were moved by air under grave emergency conditions from Delhi to stem the enemy’s advance. From this point started the saga of the an almost forgotten war: the first and the longest war independent India was forced to fight, and where the fledgling air force, emaciated by partition, and preoccupied with relief and rescue operations following massive riots and demographic movements played a crucial role in India’s defence. Indian Air Force continued to play a vital role during that most incredible war; and this book chronicles the history of its role, where all the bits and pieces have been brought together by the painstaking persistence of the author to share the glorious record of the Indian Air Force. The men in blue, knowing the challenges of an aggressive military, the weather and terrain of high altitude, and the difficulties of supplying our troops, working closely with the army knew that it executed one of most brilliant military campaigns in its history under the most daunting circumstances — feats that it has continued to repeat ever since then. But time and again the air force moved troops into critical battles and provided extensive combat support in uncharted areas to turn the tide. Within the IAF; the deeds of pilots, engineers, technicians and other personnel during that war became legend and inspired succeeding generations. But little has been written or known in and outside the service about how our inheritance was shaped by so few. This volume tells the story for the first time, painstakingly put together from extensive research and interviews by the author.

Now, in Harlem Renaissance Lives, esteemed scholars Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham have selected 300 key biographical entries culled from the eight-volume African American National Biography, providing an authoritative who's who of this seminal period. Here readers will find engagingly written and authoritative articles on notable African Americans who made significant contributions to literature, drama, music, visual art, or dance, including such central figures as poet Langston Hughes, novelist Zora Neale Hurston, aviator Bessie Coleman, blues singer Ma Rainey, artist Romare Bearden, dancer Josephine Baker, jazzman Louis Armstrong, and the intellectual giant W. E. B. Du Bois. Also included are biographies of people like the Scottsboro Boys, who were not active within the movement but who nonetheless profoundly affected the artistic and political statements that came from Harlem Renaissance figures. The volume will also feature a preface by the editors, an introductory essay by historian Cary D. Wintz, and 75 illustrations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Think how often you have heard these questions and negative comments:I really have doubts that there is any God at all.Is going to church every week really necessary? Maybe just going on Easter and Christmas are good enough.Prayers seem unanswered, useless, and a waste of time. Are there really miracles--or can they usually be explained when thoroughly investigated? Why do we still talk about the Shroud of Turin when carbon-14 testing proved it was a fake?Angels and heaven are just feel-good fantasies to keep us from dreading death, right?Confession just seems like a way that Catholics can wipe the slate clean so they can go out and sin again.Adoration is a waste of time just sitting there in church doing nothing for an hour. What's the point?John Carpenter returns with his fourth book to address these doubts and misinformed ideas in a dynamic and educational manner. Utilizing defiant dialogues between an informed teacher and doubting students creates a lively debate that teaches truth and brings forth facts rather than opinions. Responses to the misinformed students come from medical, scientific, professionally investigated, and well-documented events. So if you have had any of these doubts or beliefs, you need to join the classroom and follow along in these enlightening debates! The actual truth may surprise you! What you learn might brighten your own spiritual path.
Download or read book Nine Divisions in Champagne written by Patrick Takle and published by Casemate Publishers. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book explains how the Allies, after a series of swingeing defeats, sank their differences and came together to turn the tide against the German Army in the Summer of 1918. Although it is a detailed history of the fighting by British divisions, it also highlights the growing presence of American forces and their huge contribution to victory, too often understated in earlier works. The book deliberately binds together the genesis, size and equipment of the British and American divisions and seeks to inter-mingle the American and British campaigns of 1918.By blocking the Third German Offensive on the Chemins des Dames and then arriving in time to turn the Kaiser's army out of the Marne salient, the Allied divisions cleared the way for the decisive counter offensive at Amiens. Exhausted and demoralized, the German Army collapsed and the outcome of The Great War was decided.
