Download or read book Raw Compilation circa2014 written by Ahgamen Kyyboa and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRO We do not know "prehistoric times" unless we travel from the present, then backwards. We have to start from where we are and travel far away back in time. Unless we can trace a movement, a lineage, a progression, an evolution, a devolution, any pathway, then it would be like trying to follow the course of a skipping stone and being unable to see where it connects under the water - we must study the formation of the ripples! We connect the dots through historical facts (the significant events and activities) and project those further backwards in time to the prehistoric vestiges of assumed memory. What we find today is a great and material civilization covering most of the Earthly world, which is being controlled and ruled over by something; which is a force known as the global... Book Ecological Exile

Download or read book Ecological Exile written by Derek Gladwin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecological Exile explores how contemporary literature, film, and media culture confront ecological crises through perspectives of spatial justice – a facet of social justice that looks at unjust circumstances as a phenomenon of space. Growing instances of flooding, population displacement, and pollution suggest an urgent need to re-examine the ways social and geographical spaces are perceived and valued in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Maintaining that ecological crises are largely socially produced, Derek Gladwin considers how British and Irish literary and visual texts by Ian McEwan, Sarah Gavron, Eavan Boland, John McGrath, and China Miéville, among others, respond to and confront various spatial injustices resulting from fossil fuel production and the effects of climate change. This ambitious book offers a new spatial perspective in the environmental humanities by focusing on what the philosopher Glenn Albrecht has termed 'solastalgia' – a feeling of homesickness caused by environmental damage. The result of solastalgia is that people feel paradoxically ecologically exiled in the places they continue to live because of destructive environmental changes. Gladwin skilfully traces spatially produced instances of ecological injustice that literally and imaginatively abolish people’s sense of place (or place-home). By looking at two of the most pressing social and environmental concerns – oil and climate – Ecological Exile shows how literary and visual texts have documented spatially unjust effects of solastalgia. This interdisciplinary book will appeal to students, scholars, and professionals studying literary, film, and media texts that draw on environment and sustainability, cultural geography, energy cultures, climate change, and social justice.

This collection of new essays explores Marvel's more than five decades of Hulk comics. The contributors analyze the Hulk and his supporting cast in their shifting historical contexts, offering insights into both our popular entertainment and our cultural history. Book Social Media Organizational Identity and Public Relations

Download or read book Social Media Organizational Identity and Public Relations written by Amy Thurlow and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public relations has been swift to grasp social media, yet its impact on public relations practice remains relatively unexplored. This book focusses on a way of understanding organizational identity construction in a virtual context, developing scholarship on the importance of a virtual presence in PR management, and further, to make sense of these identities as authentic, legitimate or plausible. Through a diverse group of empirical case studies, this book explores the global perspective on organizational identities which transcend global boundaries via the internet including Volkswagen’s emissions scandal and Monsanto and organized social media protests. It also explores crowdfunding – an emerging form of capitalist development constructed through sensemaking in social media. By looking at the emergence of organization in today’s social media environment, it identifies how the interactive is created on a digitally mediated platform, sharing knowledge and engaging individuals in organizational identity construction. Viewing the social construction of organizational identities through this lens, this innovative book locates how identities are plausible, authentic and legitimate - or not – through their ongoing communication via social media. It will be of great interest to academics teaching and researching in public relations, organisational communication and social media.

Book Ups and Downs

Download or read book Ups and Downs written by Wendell V. Fountain and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-03-09 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Depending on the time, place, and situation, you might be on an express or a freight elevator. One minute you have an unfettered view for miles around, experiencing a natural high like Slim Pickens riding the rocket bomb in Dr. Strangelove (1964) and the next you might find yourself rummaging around in the dark basement. Unlike a rollercoaster, the ups and downs of life are NOT predictable. One minute youre sailing into the stratosphere and the next youre in an underground tunnel without light on either end--thats life on Earth! I have always been under the impression that the people of South Korea like Americans, until I spent some time there. It didnt take me long to discover that, at least some college students, had no use for us at all! Though I have been known to like a cocktail or two, I do not like a rain of Molotov cocktails! For that matter, when it comes to food, I am not fond of raw squid or Kimchi. I prefer the white pizza in Rome where I can dine on a red and white checkered tablecloth at a sidewalk cafe with the woman of my dreams.

Book Scattered Seeds

Download or read book Scattered Seeds written by Jacqueline Mroz and published by Seal Press. This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As typical as donor-conceived children have become, with at least a million such children in the US alone, their experiences are still unusual in many ways. In Scattered Seeds, journalist and writer Jacqueline Mroz looks at the growth of sperm donation and assisted reproduction and how it affects the children who are born, the women who buy and use the sperm to have kids, and the sperm donors who donate their genetic material to help others procreate. With empathy and in-depth analysis, Scattered Seeds explores the sociology, psychology, and anthropology surrounding those connected with fertility procedures today and looks back at the history that brought us to this point. The personal stories in this book will put a human face on the issues and help to illuminate this country's controversial and troubling unregulated fertility industry-an industry that has been compared to the Wild, Wild West, where anything goes. What is the human cost of our country's unregulated fertility industry? How are the lives of sperm-donor families changed? Scattered Seeds will answer those questions, considering carefully the social and psychological dynamics surrounding those connected with fertility procedures today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Decades of Modern American Drama series provides a comprehensive survey and study of the theatre produced in each decade from the 1930s to 2009 in eight volumes. Each volume equips readers with a detailed understanding of the context from which work emerged: an introduction considers life in the decade with a focus on domestic life and conditions, social changes, culture, media, technology, industry and political events; while a chapter on the theatre of the decade offers a wide-ranging and thorough survey of theatres, companies, dramatists, new movements and developments in response to the economic and political conditions of the day. The work of the four most prominent playwrights from the decade receives in-depth analysis and re-evaluation by a team of experts, together with commentary on their subsequent work and legacy. A final section brings together original documents such as interviews with the playwrights and with directors, drafts of play scenes, and other previously unpublished material. The major playwrights and their plays to receive in-depth coverage in this volume include: * Theresa Rebeck: Omnium Gatherum (2003), Mauritius (2007), and The Understudy (2008); * Sarah Ruhl: Eurydice (2003), Clean House (2004), and In the Next Room (or the Vibrator Play) (2009); * Lynn Nottage: Intimate Apparel (2003), Fabulation or Re-Education of Undine (2004), and Ruined (2008); * Charles Mee: Big Love (2000), Wintertime (2005), and Hotel Cassiopeia (2006).

Book The Oxford Handbook of Music and Advertising

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Music and Advertising written by James Deaville and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 954 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Music and Advertising is an essential guide to the crucial role that music plays in relation to the audio or audiovisual advertising message, from the perspectives of its creation, interpretation, and reception. The book's unique three-part organization reflects this life cycle of an advertisement, from industry inception to mass-mediated text to consumer behaviour. Experts well versed in the practice, analysis, and empirical studies of the commercial message have contributed to the collection's forty-two chapters, which collectively represent the most ambitious and comprehensive attempt to date to address the important intersections of music and advertising. Handbook chapters are self-contained yet share borders with other contributions within a given section and across the major sections of the book, so readers can either study one topic of particular interest or read through to gain an understanding of the broader issues at stake. Within the book's Introduction, each editor has provided an overview of the unifying themes for the section for which they were responsible, with brief summaries of individual contributions at the beginnings of the sections. The lists of recommended readings at the end of chapters are intended to assist readers in finding further literature about the topic. An overview of industry practices by a music insider is provided in the Appendix, giving context for the three parts of the book.

Book excerpt: Get federal investigative insight and guidance on conducting thorough investigations and case-building The ability to conduct thorough and effective investigations is a skill that has become increasingly in-demand across many industries. In Investigator and Fraud Fighter Guidebook: Operation War Stories, author Charles E. Piper, CFE provides insight and guidance on how to conduct thorough and complete investigations while juggling a caseload. In the book, Piper provides guidance on conducting thorough and complete investigations (even with fewer resources) and spotting red flags that often indicate big-picture problems. Piper also shows how to: Identify the suspect's other wrongful acts (similar and otherwise) Identify similar wrongful acts committed by others, and predict future occurrences Identify systemic weaknesses, waste, and abuse Identify changes and corrections necessary to prevent future occurrences The book includes Piper's real-life investigative examples to illustrate important concepts. Book My Incredible Life

Download or read book My Incredible Life written by Bobby Chambers and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Warning: once you start reading this book, you won't stop until you are finished. This book is a true story or stories about my life. I explain in detail why and when I was taken away from my family by social services and put in an orphanage and then placed in two different foster homes, where I was abused and terrified, and I had a relationship with a twentyaEUR"yearaEUR"old woman when I was seven and a half years old. I also talk about very crazy experiences I had playing drums professionally on stage. The experiences are very dramatic, humorous, and sexy. Drums were and still are a very big part of my life. I would play with my complete heart and selfaEUR"expression when I performed. Music was a big part of my life that gave me purpose when I was at one of my lowest points in my life. I have also suffered with Crohn's disease most of my life. I have been in and out of the hospital as a result of this disease since I was a baby. The disease became so severe I had to quit my job and I became homeless, and I lived in the woods for two long years suffering from this disease. I also share some of my terrifying experiences from heavy drinking of alcohol and some of my deadly situations I put myself in from heavy addiction to drugs. It is absolutely amazing and a true miracle that I am still alive and able to write this book about my experiences. I experienced the presence of God while I was writing this book in such a profound way. I cannot even try to explain how powerful this experience was. You have to read this book to understand this absolute wonderful experience I had.
