Book India s National Security

Download or read book India s National Security written by Satish Kumar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twelfth volume in the series India’s National Security: Annual Review offers a detailed analysis of India’s complex security environment: persistence of major threats, alongside a constructive engagement with major powers based on its economic growth, military power and political stability. Topping the list of India’s external security concerns is China’s veiled hostility, manifest in its strategic nexus with Pakistan, incursions into India’s borders and enhanced military deployment in India’s immediate neighbourhood. Added to these are the intractable boundary dispute and uncertain implications of the recent leadership change in China. India, nevertheless, is attempting to cope with China’s pressures by engaging with it at a diplomatic level and improving its own defence capability. Pakistan remains another major threat, because of its refusal to take action against militants responsible for the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, its efforts at expanding its nuclear arsenal, and the increasing sway of right-wing elements on its society, politics and security forces. India further faces the challenges of facilitating Nepal’s difficult transition to democracy, safeguarding its strategic interests in Afghanistan, stabilising Maldives’ fledgling democracy, and tackling ethnic insurgencies along its borders with Myanmar. On the other hand, there are positives like India’s strategic partnerships with Russia, US, France, Britain, Germany, and Japan, as well as a flowering relationship with Bangladesh. India’s internal security situation is less alarming, with progress in talks with some North-Eastern insurgent outfits; a sharp fall in casualties due to left-wing extremism (LWE); and a gradual reduction in terrorist-related incidents in Kashmir. But sporadic cross-border infiltrations in Kashmir and spread of LWE to urban areas still pose challenges. Addressing such and other issues, this book will be indispensable for policymakers and governmental organisations; those in defence and strategic sectors; and students of defence studies, foreign policy, international relations, and political science.

Book Marriage Religion and Society

Download or read book Marriage Religion and Society written by Giri Raj Gupta and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-05 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1974, the conclusions of the book are based on intensive field-work during 1963-66 in a village in south-east Rajasthan, India. Although the marriages of 158 boys and 163 girls were studied, the relevance of the conclusions drawn extends far beyond the village and its region since it reveals the changing themes and values in Indian society at the time. The perceptive analysis of rites and ceremonies of marriage further illuminates the central problem of the book – how the themes of the Dharmasastras are interpreted and acted upon in village life and what kinds of reinforcements and incentives to change they provide to the various units of social structure. The author contends that the series of marriage rites manifest the continuity of tradition, a ritual epitomisation of caste interdependence and means of systematic social advancement. At the time ritual idioms and patterns of social exchange were beginning to change, more often in observance than in content. Traditional sources of status aggrandisement continued to provide new pathways to the forces of modernisation and unveil several clues to the innovative strategies of change. This scholarly study filled the need for a realistic appraisal of the relationship between marriage practices, religious values and the changing social structure.

Book excerpt: I have written over 160 books; I think this is the best book that I have ever compiled. This book is titled ""India's Struggle"" dividing people alone Racial and Tribal lines. Let?s, begin with the truth. All humans are created equal. Unfortunate, some Tribes were born in an environment that put them at a disadvantage situation, because of isolation from other Tribes That was understandable at that Period in History. They were looked upon as the Untouchable, Outcast, Cursed and etc. I believe this is how the Caste System was created. Thank God for Gandhi and Mother Teresa dedicating their lives helping these people. I truly understand what the Black Race had to overcome from discrimination and oppression for hundred of years just because of their skin color. Blacks had the same dilemma as the Untouchable and poor people in India.

Book Ahmadiyya Islam and the Muslim Diaspora

Download or read book Ahmadiyya Islam and the Muslim Diaspora written by Marzia Balzani and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-01-20 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a study of the UK-based Ahmadiyya Muslim community in the context of the twentieth-century South Asian diaspora. Originating in late nineteenth-century Punjab, the Ahmadis are today a vibrant international religious movement; they are also a group that has been declared heretic by other Muslims and one that continues to face persecution in Pakistan, the country the Ahmadis made their home after the partition of India in 1947. Structured as a series of case studies, the book focuses on the ways in which the Ahmadis balance the demands of faith, community and modern life in the diaspora. Following an overview of the history and beliefs of the Ahmadis, the chapters examine in turn the use of ceremonial occasions to consolidate a diverse international community; the paradoxical survival of the enchantments of dreams and charisma within the structures of an institutional bureaucracy; asylum claims and the ways in which the plight of asylum seekers has been strategically deployed to position the Ahmadis on the UK political stage; and how the planning and building of mosques serves to establish a home within the diaspora. Based on fieldwork conducted over several years in a range of formal and informal contexts, this timely book will be of interest to an interdisciplinary audience from social and cultural anthropology, South Asian studies, the study of Islam and of Muslims in Europe, refugee, asylum and diaspora studies, as well as more generally religious studies and history.
