Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION. Cleaning is the first step in preventing aircraft corrosion and wear. Dirt, salt air deposits, and other contaminants can promote rapid corrosion and wear of aircraft surfaces, and can have an adverse impact on aircraft systems performance. Effective cleaning requires knowledge of the appropriate materials and methods needed to remove these contaminants. Section I contains general cleaning information, and Section II contains additional procedures for aircraft exposed to volcanic ash or sand/desert environments.

Book US Naval Air Force Avionic and Electrical System Corrosion Prevention and Control Maintenance

Download or read book US Naval Air Force Avionic and Electrical System Corrosion Prevention and Control Maintenance written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conclusion of this study include: (1) Avionics corrosion damage can be minimized on aircraft and other military equipment by a dynamic corrosion prevention/control program; (2) Detailed training of involved personnel must be provided; (3) As new material becomes available the occurrence of avionics corrosion can be reduced through a) designing boxes that will not leak and b) materials selection, i.e., non-corrosive materials for construction of component/equipment; (4) Close cooperation between the avionics/aerospace community is needed to insure that the most durable, reliable/avionics/ electronics are provided to the armed forces.

Book Corrosion Control in the Aerospace Industry

Download or read book Corrosion Control in the Aerospace Industry written by Samuel Benavides and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-01-21 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion control in the aerospace industry has always been important, but is becoming more so with the ageing of the aircraft fleet. Corrosion control in the aerospace industry provides a comprehensive review of the subject with real-world perspectives and approaches to corrosion control and prevention.Part one discusses the fundamentals of corrosion and the cost of corrosion with chapters on such topics as corrosion and the threat to aircraft structural integrity and the effect of corrosion on aluminium alloys. Part two then reviews corrosion monitoring, evaluation and prediction including non-destructive evaluation of corrosion, integrated health and corrosion monitoring systems, modelling of corrosion and fatigue on aircraft structures and corrosion control in space launch vehicles. Finally, Part three covers corrosion protection and prevention, including chapters which discuss coating removal techniques, novel corrosion schemes, greases and their role in corrosion control and business strategies in fleet maintenance. With its distinguished editor and team of expert contributors, Corrosion control in the aerospace industry is a standard reference for everyone involved in the maintenance and daily operation of aircraft, as well as those concerned with aircraft safety, designers of aircraft, materials scientists and corrosion experts. - Discusses the fundamentals of corrosion and the cost of corrosion to the aerospace industry - Examines the threat corrosion poses to aircraft structural integrity and the effect of corrosion on the mechanical behaviour of aircraft - Reviews methods for corrosion monitoring, evaluation and prediction examining both current practices and future trends

Book U S Navy Corrosion Control Maintenance

Download or read book U S Navy Corrosion Control Maintenance written by G. T. Browne and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This presentation describes the U.S. Navy Aircraft Corrosion Prevention/Control Maintenance Program. It presents maintenance practices, maintenance control procedures and corrective actions from discovery, resolution and documentation. It discusses a system of checks and balances which are accomplished through a material condition audit program that assesses the quality of information provided for use by mechanics and the ability of the aircraft operator to maintain the aircraft. The training for personnel involved in the program is also discussed. A sample of a detailed Corrosion Control Directive that can be modified to fit any nation's program is provided along with a Basic Corrosion Training Outline.

Book Aircraft Cleaning and Corrosion Control Volume I

Download or read book Aircraft Cleaning and Corrosion Control Volume I written by U. S. Department US Department of Defense and published by . This book was released on 2017-09-20 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How metal corrosion can threaten the structuralintegrity of an aircraft. Identify the personnelrequired to obtain corrosion control training.Identify the primary reason for selectingmaterials in aircraft construction.Modern high-speed aircraft depend on thestructural soundness of the metals that make up thelargest percentage of their thousands of parts. Metalcorrosion is the greatest threat to the soundness ofmetals and to the structural integrity of an aircraft. Thematerials used to construct an aircraft are designed tocarry certain loads, to withstand given stresses, and toprovide strength for safety. Corrosion reduces thestrength and changes the mechanical characteristics ofthe materials, thus endangering the aircraft andreducing the margin of safety.
