Book Averaging Methods in Nonlinear Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Averaging Methods in Nonlinear Dynamical Systems written by Jan A. Sanders and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we have developed the asymptotic analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems. We have collected a large number of results, scattered throughout the literature and presented them in a way to illustrate both the underlying common theme, as well as the diversity of problems and solutions. While most of the results are known in the literature, we added new material which we hope will also be of interest to the specialists in this field. The basic theory is discussed in chapters two and three. Improved results are obtained in chapter four in the case of stable limit sets. In chapter five we treat averaging over several angles; here the theory is less standardized, and even in our simplified approach we encounter many open problems. Chapter six deals with the definition of normal form. After making the somewhat philosophical point as to what the right definition should look like, we derive the second order normal form in the Hamiltonian case, using the classical method of generating functions. In chapter seven we treat Hamiltonian systems. The resonances in two degrees of freedom are almost completely analyzed, while we give a survey of results obtained for three degrees of freedom systems. The appendices contain a mix of elementary results, expansions on the theory and research problems.

Book excerpt: GENERALIZED ORDINARY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS IN ABSTRACT SPACES AND APPLICATIONS Explore a unified view of differential equations through the use of the generalized ODE from leading academics in mathematics Generalized Ordinary Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces and Applications delivers a comprehensive treatment of new results of the theory of Generalized ODEs in abstract spaces. The book covers applications to other types of differential equations, including Measure Functional Differential Equations (measure FDEs). It presents a uniform collection of qualitative results of Generalized ODEs and offers readers an introduction to several theories, including ordinary differential equations, impulsive differential equations, functional differential equations, dynamical equations on time scales, and more. Throughout the book, the focus is on qualitative theory and on corresponding results for other types of differential equations, as well as the connection between Generalized Ordinary Differential Equations and impulsive differential equations, functional differential equations, measure differential equations and dynamic equations on time scales. The book’s descriptions will be of use in many mathematical contexts, as well as in the social and natural sciences. Readers will also benefit from the inclusion of: A thorough introduction to regulated functions, including their basic properties, equiregulated sets, uniform convergence, and relatively compact sets An exploration of the Kurzweil integral, including its definitions and basic properties A discussion of measure functional differential equations, including impulsive measure FDEs The interrelationship between generalized ODEs and measure FDEs A treatment of the basic properties of generalized ODEs, including the existence and uniqueness of solutions, and prolongation and maximal solutions Perfect for researchers and graduate students in Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems, Generalized Ordinary Differential Equations in Abstract Spaces and Applications will also earn a place in the libraries of advanced undergraduate students taking courses in the subject and hoping to move onto graduate studies.

Book Perturbation Methods in Science and Engineering

Download or read book Perturbation Methods in Science and Engineering written by Reza N. Jazar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-12 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perturbation Methods in Science and Engineering provides the fundamental and advanced topics in perturbation methods in science and engineering, from an application viewpoint. This book bridges the gap between theory and applications, in new as well as classical problems. The engineers and graduate students who read this book will be able to apply their knowledge to a wide range of applications in different engineering disciplines. The book begins with a clear description on limits of mathematics in providing exact solutions and goes on to show how pioneers attempted to search for approximate solutions of unsolvable problems. Through examination of special applications and highlighting many different aspects of science, this text provides an excellent insight into perturbation methods without restricting itself to a particular method. This book is ideal for graduate students in engineering, mathematics, and physical sciences, as well as researchers in dynamic systems.

Download or read book Multiscale Methods written by Grigoris Pavliotis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-01-18 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introduction to multiscale methods gives you a broad overview of the methods’ many uses and applications. The book begins by setting the theoretical foundations of the methods and then moves on to develop models and prove theorems. Extensive use of examples shows how to apply multiscale methods to solving a variety of problems. Exercises then enable you to build your own skills and put them into practice. Extensions and generalizations of the results presented in the book, as well as references to the literature, are provided in the Discussion and Bibliography section at the end of each chapter. With the exception of Chapter One, all chapters are supplemented with exercises.

Book Nonlinear Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Nonlinear Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems written by Ferdinand Verhulst and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between elementary courses and the research literature in this field, the book covers the basic concepts necessary to study differential equations. Stability theory is developed, starting with linearisation methods going back to Lyapunov and Poincaré, before moving on to the global direct method. The Poincaré-Lindstedt method is introduced to approximate periodic solutions, while at the same time proving existence by the implicit function theorem. The final part covers relaxation oscillations, bifurcation theory, centre manifolds, chaos in mappings and differential equations, and Hamiltonian systems. The subject material is presented from both the qualitative and the quantitative point of view, with many examples to illustrate the theory, enabling the reader to begin research after studying this book.

Book The Method of Volume Averaging

Download or read book The Method of Volume Averaging written by S. Whitaker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiphase systems dominate nearly every area of science and technology, and the method of volume averaging provides a rigorous foundation for the analysis of these systems. The development is based on classical continuum physics, and it provides both the spatially smoothed equations and a method of predicting the effective transport coefficients that appear in those equations. The text is based on a ten-week graduate course that has been taught for more than 20 years at the University of California at Davis and at other universities around the world. Problems dealing with both the theoretical foundations and the applications are included with each chapter, and detailed solutions for all problems are available from the author. The course has attracted participants from chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, hydrologic science, mathematics, chemistry and physics.
