Book Local Heat transfer Characteristics of a Row of Circular Air Jets Impinging on a Concave Semicylindrical Surface

Download or read book Local Heat transfer Characteristics of a Row of Circular Air Jets Impinging on a Concave Semicylindrical Surface written by John N. B. Livingood and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was made of the local heat-transfer characteristics of air jets impinging on the concave side of a right circular semicylinder. A correlation was developed for expressing individual and combined effects of a number of dimensionless variables on the normalized Nusselt number distributions. Results of the present study are in good agreement with those of other investigators.

Book Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Row of Air Jets Impinging on the Inside of a Semi Circular Cylinder

Download or read book Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Row of Air Jets Impinging on the Inside of a Semi Circular Cylinder written by R. Ravuri and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental results of average heat transfer coefficients for a row of air jets impinging on the inside of a semi-cylinder are presented. The variation of the average Nusselt Number with the wide range of Reynolds Numbers are found. Two semi-cylinder concave surfaces with different diameters, four different impinging jet configurations and variable impinging heights were investigated. The effect of introducing solid particles into the cooling air on the heat transfer performance was studied. (Author).

Book Heat Transfer Characteristics Within an Array of Impinging Jets Effects of Crossflow Temperature Relative to Jet Temperature

Download or read book Heat Transfer Characteristics Within an Array of Impinging Jets Effects of Crossflow Temperature Relative to Jet Temperature written by L. W. Florschuetz and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spanwise average heat fluxes, resolved in the streamwise direction to one stream-wise hole spacing were measured for two-dimensional arrays of circular air jets impinging on a heat transfer surface parallel to the jet orifice plate. The jet flow, after impingement, was constrained to exit in a single direction along the channel formed by the jet orifice plate and heat transfer surface. The crossflow originated from the jets following impingement and an initial crossflow was present that approached the array through an upstream extension of the channel. The regional average heat fluxes are considered as a function of parameters associated with corresponding individual spanwise rows within the array. A linear superposition model was employed to formulate appropriate governing parameters for the individual row domain. The effects of flow history upstream of an individual row domain are also considered. The results are formulated in terms of individual spanwise row parameters. A corresponding set of streamwise resolved heat transfer characteristics formulated in terms of flow and geometric parameters characterizing the overall arrays is described.

Book Gas Turbine Blade Cooling

Download or read book Gas Turbine Blade Cooling written by Chaitanya D Ghodke and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2018-12-10 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas turbines play an extremely important role in fulfilling a variety of power needs and are mainly used for power generation and propulsion applications. The performance and efficiency of gas turbine engines are to a large extent dependent on turbine rotor inlet temperatures: typically, the hotter the better. In gas turbines, the combustion temperature and the fuel efficiency are limited by the heat transfer properties of the turbine blades. However, in pushing the limits of hot gas temperatures while preventing the melting of blade components in high-pressure turbines, the use of effective cooling technologies is critical. Increasing the turbine inlet temperature also increases heat transferred to the turbine blade, and it is possible that the operating temperature could reach far above permissible metal temperature. In such cases, insufficient cooling of turbine blades results in excessive thermal stress on the blades causing premature blade failure. This may bring hazards to the engine's safe operation. Gas Turbine Blade Cooling, edited by Dr. Chaitanya D. Ghodke, offers 10 handpicked SAE International's technical papers, which identify key aspects of turbine blade cooling and help readers understand how this process can improve the performance of turbine hardware.
