Download or read book Studia Varia written by E.G.D. Murray and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 1957-12-15 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS VOLUME contains a selection of articles by Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada on subjects of general cultural interest. The majority of the papers were presented at the annual meeting of the Society in 1956, but for the first time in the history of the Society, they are being issued in a volume available to the general public, instead of being restricted to the Society's Transactions. It has long been a cause for regret to many who were aware of the stimulating and authoritative nature of many Royal Society papers on generalized topics that they were not readily available to the general reader. This volume is an effort on the part of the Society to broaden its influence, to share with educated readers everywhere the contributions which its Fellows make to literary and scientific thought. Authors and articles are as follows: Pierre Daviault, "Franҫais et anglais du Canada"; Desmond Pacey, "The Canadian writer and his public, 1882-1952"; Northrop Frye, "Preface to an uncollected anthology"; Jacques Rousseau, "L'Indien de la forêt boréale, élément de la formation écologique"; W. H. Watson, "Perspective towards the future in physics"; Vincent Bladen, "Some reflection on the classical literature of political economy"; T. A. Goudge, "Progress and evolution"; J. S. Thomson, "The existential philosophy"; Pierre Dansereau, "Language, communication, and culture"; Henry Alexander, "Breaking the language barrier"; Jean-Charles Falardeau, "L'Importance des langues secondes et les sciences de l'homme."
Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Urban Food Governance written by Ana Moragues-Faus and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-10-20 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Urban Food Governance is the first collection to reflect on and compile the currently dispersed histories, concepts and practices involved in the increasingly popular field of urban food governance. Unpacking the power of urban food governance and its capacity to affect lives through the transformation of cities and the global food system, the Handbook is structured into five parts. The first part focuses on histories of urban food governance to trace the historical roots of current dynamics and provide an impetus for the critical lens on urban food governance threaded through the Handbook. The second part presents a broad overview of the different frames, theories and concepts that have informed urban food governance scholarship. Drawing on the previous parts, part three engages with the practice of urban food governance by analysing plans, policies and programmes implemented in different contexts. Part four presents current knowledge on how urban food governance involves different agencies that operate across scales and sectors. The final part asks key figures in this field what the future holds for urban food governance in the midst of pressing societal and environmental challenges. Containing chapters written by emerging and established scholars, as well as practitioners, the Handbook provides a state of the art, global and diverse examination of the role of cities in delivering sustainable and secure food outcomes, as well as providing refreshed theoretical and practical tools to understand and transform urban food governance to enact more sustainable and just futures. The Routledge Handbook of Urban Food Governance will be essential reading for students, scholars, practitioners and policymakers interested in food governance, urban studies, sustainable food and agriculture, and sustainable living more broadly.

Download or read book Bangkok s Foodscape written by Gisèle Yasmeen and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview and analysis of the habit of "public eating" in Thai society with specific attention paid to the case study of Bangkok where the phenomenon has been particularly widespread for several decades. Using the well-established ethnographic approach of "thick description", this contribution to the study of Thai and Southeast Asian foodways concentrates on the nexus between eating habits, the social construction of gender and patterns of urban development in one of the world's mega-cities. By providing a detailed snapshot of the rapid growth period of the early to mid-1990s in central Bangkok and concluding with insights as to the impacts of the economic crisis that wreaked havoc in the latter part of the decade, the author illustrates the recursive social, economic and cultural impacts of the "foodscape" on urban space.

Download or read book Les pileptiques ne se cachent plus pour gu rir written by René Soulayrol and published by John Libbey Eurotext. This book was released on 2004 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book The Amsterdam International written by Geert Van Goethem and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book charts the turbulent history of the International Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) from its foundation in 1913, to its dissolution in 1945. Established to protect and advance the interests of workers of all countries and to further international solidarity, the IFTU from the outset was beset by difficulties. Within a year the First World War split the fledgling organisation, underlining national interests and creating resentment between some of the most powerful union interests. Although these differences were patched up after the end of hostilities, the Revolution in Russia and rise of Soviet Communism, with own aspirations to leadership of international labour, soon created new tensions within the IFTU.
