Book High resolution Autoradiography

Download or read book High resolution Autoradiography written by George C. Towe and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autoradiography has been used only to a rather limited extent in metallurgical studies. Probably the major deterring factor has been that the autoradiographic systems have not provided the high resolution required in many investigations. A general discussion of the requirements for high-resolution autoradiography is presented in this report including detecting layer as well as radioactive-sample specifications. The need for a thin photographic emulsion in close contact with the metal surface is emphasized. The desirability of using favorable radiation (e.g., low-energy beta radioactivity) is also discussed.

Download or read book Art and Autoradiography written by Maryan Wynn Ainsworth and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 1982 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports the most significant results of a scientific study of thirty-nine paintings in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The works under investigation are by seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish artists, mainly Rembrandt and his school. Art and Autoradiography publishes data obtained by the use of a new technique: neutron activation autoradiography. Through this method, it is now possible to study the substructure of paintings, their genesis, and their condition in far greater detail than had been possible with the conventional techniques of X-ray radiography and infrared photography. As a result, an artist's creative process can now be studied very closely. Autoradiography provides significant information for resolving questions about an artist's oeuvre and about workshop variations, attribution, dating, and even doubted authenticity. -- Metropolitan Museum of Art website.

Download or read book Autoradiography in Biology and Medicine written by George A. Boyd and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autoradiography in Biology and Medicine focuses on the applications of autoradiography in medicine and biology, including photographic processes, emulsions, and response of films to isotopes and x-rays. The book first offers information on the meaning of autoradiography, including the etymology of autoradiography, photographic emulsion as a scientific instrument, and the relationship of biologists and autoradiography. The publication then examines the photographic process and comparative response of commercial and scientific emulsions. Discussions focus on fixation, washing, emulsion, response of films to electrons, x-rays, and gamma rays, and response of films to beta ray spectra of isotopes. The text takes a look at commercial photographic materials for autoradiography, autoradiographic image, and resolution. The manuscript then reviews the estimation of dose and exposure time, sources of error, and techniques. Topics include chemical variables, estimation of exposure time, errors occurring during the preparation of the autoradiogram for exposure, and contour autoradiography. The book is a valuable reference for readers interested in autoradiography.

Book Advances in Tracer Methodology

Download or read book Advances in Tracer Methodology written by Seymour Rothchild and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-05-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The five Symposia on Advances in Tracer Methodology were held annually from 1957 to 1961. The symposia were directed to scientists who are active in utilizing tracer techniques to help solve their scientific problems. The format, an informal one-day meeting consisting of about ten papers and closing with a cocktail hour, fostered an active exchange of information among speakers and audience. Although the first two symposia were restricted to the use of tritium as a tracer isotope, the larger purpose of the meetings was to disseminate information relating to the entire isotopic tracer field. The sponsoring organizations, all actively engaged in selling products in the nuclear field, attempted to provide a noncom mercialized forum which would facilitate this exchange of in formation. The collection of papers presented herein represents most of the talks presented at the first symposia plus several appropriate papers which have appeared either in Atomlight, the bulletin of the New England Nuclear Corp., or which have been submitted directly for inclusion in this collection. Although each of the authors was given the opportunity to revise his paper, it is likely that some of the techniques or instrumentation described may already have been outmoded by recent improvements.

Book The Development of the Red Pulp in the Spleen

Download or read book The Development of the Red Pulp in the Spleen written by V. Grouls and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many aspects hematopoiesis in newborn rodents, especially in rats, resembles hema topoiesis in the human fetus in the 6th-7th month of gestation. In man the transition from the stage of liver to bone marrow erythropoiesis takes place at this time (Bessis, 1973). In rodents, however, the liver is almost the only place where hematopoiesis occurs until birth. Thereafter it is replaced to a growing extent by the bone marrow, which so far consists mainly of immature mesenchymal cells (Maximow, 1910; Cuda, 1970). Thus hematopoietic precursor cells appear in the sternum only around 30 h after birth. Just as in premature human infants, a macrocytic anemia can be demonstrat ed in normal neonatal rats (Lucarelli et aI., 1964, 1968). Beside liver (fetal) and bone marrow, the spleen is involved in hematopoiesis. In rodents like rats and mice, splenic hematopoiesis persists more or less markedly until adulthood; in man, however, it ceases after birth and reappears only under certain pathological conditions (Fischer et aI., 1970; Hennekeuser et aI., 1967; Fresen, 1960).

Book Contemporary Research Methods in Neuroanatomy

Download or read book Contemporary Research Methods in Neuroanatomy written by Walle J.H. Nauta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a source of information on neuroanatomical research methods this Volume is not without precedent. In 1957, at the initiative of Dr. W. F. Windle, a conference was held at the National Institutes of Health, the proceedings of which, edited by Dr. Windle and published by C. C. Thomas under the title "New Research Tech niques of Neuroanatomy", rapidly became something like a standard reference in the field of Neuromorphology. The present editors were emboldened to seek support for a second expose of contemporary research methods in Neuroanatomy by the success of this earlier publication, as well as by the consideration that the years elapsed since its appearance have been, perhaps, more productive of new research methods and strategies in Neuroanatomy than were any dozen consecutive years since the golden decades of the 1870's and 1880's. The decision, which methods to include in this conference, has been a difficult one. For reasons of space alone it would have been impossible to do equal justice to techniques approaching the brain as a neuronal system, the brain as a tissue, or the neuron as a cell. As a brief inspection of the contents of this volume will show, the weight of choice fell upon the first of these alternatives. The reader will find, further more, that not all of the book is devoted to new methods in the strict sense.
