Book BMW Entering the Automobile Market in Brazil

Download or read book BMW Entering the Automobile Market in Brazil written by Marcel Keller and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1, Coventry University (Business School), language: English, abstract: The ongoing globalisation and the interrelated trade of goods and services are an integral part of today’s business. In particular, the automobile industry plays an important role within the global environment, because of their strong linkages within the global economy. The increased international commitment of car manufacturers is driven by, on the one hand issues of limited opportunities in their respective home markets and, on the other hand, superior opportunities in emerging markets such as China or India. Therefore, motives for entering new markets can be either proactive, for example, expand market share, lower costs or the availability of resources or they can be reactive, for example, to remain competitive. For instance, German car manufacturers are faced by a highly competitive home market, not only within the mass market, but in the premium market as well. BMW, for instance, has been proactive by taking the opportunity to enter new markets such as China where it has produced cars since 2003. Furthermore, BMW assemblies its cars with a reassembly production process in India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. However, these are just a few emerging economies where the company seeks its opportunities. Emerging economies such as Brazil offer auspicious potential for foreign investors as well. Brazil is the eighth largest economy by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the fifth by population and the fourth largest car market in the world. While other companies just consider investments in emerging markets, BMW already benefits by exporting its cars to Brazil. Nevertheless, to take full advantage of the market the company contemplates entering Brazil ́s car market by foreign direct investment. Consequently, BMW has to investigate the Brazilian market very thoughtfully. The aim of this report is to critically analyse and evaluate the automobile industry as well as the business environment in Brazil with reference to BMW. Furthermore, the report identifies recommendations to develop a long-term market entry strategy in order to act successfully in the market.

Book Latin American Business

Download or read book Latin American Business written by Werner Baer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examine the costs and benefits of fiscal wars between Brazilian states Latin American Business examines Brazil’s use of fiscal incentives to attract investors to help remedy disparities in the country’s regional distribution of income. Since the 1990s, individual Brazilian states have taken the initiative in trying to lure domestic and foreign firms to locate within their borders, targeting the automotive industry, textiles, and shoe production. But their efforts have led to mixed results and questions about whether these fiscal wars have been legitimate attempts at regional economic development or simply a distortion in the allocation of resources. This insightful collection of case studies and essays sheds considerable light on the issue. For several generations, the notion has been debated both in advanced industrial countries and in developing countries that regional differences in income will gradually be eliminated as poor regions (where money is scare but labor is not) benefit from the inflow of investments. In reality, this has rarely happened; Latin American Business examines why that has been the case in Brazil. The book’s contributors fuel this continuing debate, analyzing topics that include Bahia’s efforts to attract a Ford plant, the Mercedes-Benz project in Juiz de Fora, the case of Renault in Paraná, fiscal incentive programs in Pernambuco, and the tax incentive policies of Ceará. Latin American Business includes: an evaluation of the costs and benefits of federal and state incentives given to Ford Motor Company to attract a plant in Bahia an analysis of the use of state and municipal incentives by the state of Minas Gerais in dealing with Mercedes-Benz Corporation a look at Paraná’s agreement with Renault and the degree to which it has created jobs and attracted other investments an examination of structural changes in the Brazilian automotive industry a look at the Brazilian automotive industry in the 1990s an evaluation of the results of Pernambo’s fiscal incentives program from 1996 to 2003 a discussion of the economic logic for tax incentives a look at the economic effects of regional tax incentives and much more Latin American Business is an essential resource for academics, business practitioners, public policymakers, and anyone working in the international development community.

Book New Frontiers of the Automobile Industry

Download or read book New Frontiers of the Automobile Industry written by Alex Covarrubias V. and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysing developments in digital technologies and institutional changes, this book provides an overview of the current frenetic state of transformation within the global automobile industry. An ongoing transition brought about by the relocation of marketing, design and production centres to emerging economies, and experimentation with new mobility systems such as electrical, autonomous vehicles, this process poses the question as to how original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and newcomers can remain competitive and ensure sustainability. With contributions from specialists in the automobile sector, this collection examines the shifts in power and geographical location occurring in the industry, and outlines the key role that public policy has in generating innovation in entrepreneurial states.
