Book Fallen Icon Sir David Attenborough and the Walrus Deception

Download or read book Fallen Icon Sir David Attenborough and the Walrus Deception written by Susan J. Crockford and published by Library and Archives of Canada. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sir David Attenborough was one of the most trusted and admired men in the world - until early 2019, when he narrated a joint Netflix/WWF documentary called Our Planet that showed several walrus falling off a high cliff to their deaths on jagged rocks below. Hundreds were shown to have died, which Attenborough blamed on humanity's wanton use of fossil fuels. Many viewers, including children, were traumatised by the brutal images. He used this horrifying imagery to jump-start a three year campaign against human-caused global warming that included ten documentaries laden with groundless climate emergency messaging, much of it aimed at the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world. Attenborough's relentless climate activism included a utopian vision of global changes for society eerily similar to the one proposed by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The story told in Fallen Icon is every bit as horrifying as the falling walrus tragedy porn Attenborough and the WWF manipulated to their advantage: it is an especially egregious example of science corrupted for political objectives.

It’s just one more in a string of strange things happening to Noah lately. Like when he keels over and every muscle in his body freezes when confronted by bullies. And when he vanishes into the background at a moment he doesn’t want to be noticed. And when he unexpectedly blasts Sahara with a bird shriek while flapping his arms uncontrollably in the middle of a school dance. What does it all mean? And why do there suddenly seem to be so many mysterious people trying to kill him? Noah’s friend Ogden has an idea…but like all of Ogden’s ideas, it’s out there. Way out there…

See the world. Then make it better. I am 93. I've had an extraordinary life. It's only now that I appreciate how extraordinary. As a young man, I felt I was out there in the wild, experiencing the untouched natural world - but it was an illusion. A Life on Our Planet is my witness statement, and my vision for the future. It is the story of how we came to make this, our greatest mistake -- and how, if we act now, we can yet put it right. We have one final chance to create the perfect home for ourselves and restore the wonderful world we inherited. All we need is the will to do so.

Book excerpt: The Captain hates his bloody job hates whaling. Yet, to catch enough fish to retire, he puts his faith in an all-conquering He-God, consequently at the cost of his heart: in what would seem a case of cosmic vengeance against him, his beloved young daughter is stolen by the sea, from which he has stolen so much life. The Captain's mystical journey to reconnect with his daughter (and the earth) begins when his crew of walrus hunters leaves him for dead on a remote Alaskan island. Here, the god most high is a she, and the release of tears is said to unlock immortal strength. But can the Captain, a faithless man, reap the benefits of such beliefs, and save the island its women, its walrus from his crew? Set during a time of war and oil (the Civil War and whale oil), The Walrus-Man travels to a strange land of Eskimo egg-men and tattoo-tusked women, where ambiguity thrives and absolutes have no place. Far (but not too far) from the modern world, one may find that wars and global warming come from something more fundamental than oil: an imbalance between the Male and Female forces of the soul.

Book excerpt: Take a deep breath and dive into the mysteries of the ocean. Our understanding of ocean life has changed dramatically in the last decade, with new species, new behaviours, and new habitats being discovered at a rapid rate. Blue Planet II, which accompanies an epic 7-part series on BBC1, is a ground-breaking new look at the richness and variety of underwater life across our planet. From ambush hunters such as the carnivorous bobbit worm to cuttlefish mesmerising their prey with a pulsating light display, Blue Planet II reveals the never-before-seen secrets of the ocean. With over 200 breath-taking photographs and stills from the BBC Natural History Unit's spectacular footage, each chapter of Blue Planet II brings to life a different habitat of the oceanic world. Voyages of migration show how each of the oceans on our planet are connected; coral reefs and arctic ice communities are revealed as thriving underwater cities; while shorelines throw up continual challenges to those living there or passing through. A final chapter explores the science and technology of the Ocean enterprise – not only how they were able to capture these amazing stories on film, but what the future holds for marine life based on these discoveries.
