Download or read book Atoms and Eden written by Steve Paulson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is an unprecedented collection of twenty freewheeling and revealing interviews with major players in the ongoing--and increasingly heated--debate about the relationship between religion and science. These lively conversations cover the most important and interesting topics imaginable: the Big Bang, the origins of life, the nature of consciousness, the foundations of religion, the meaning of God, and much more. In Atoms and Eden, Peabody Award-winning journalist Steve Paulson explores these topics with some of the most prominent public intellectuals of our time, including Richard Dawkins, Karen Armstrong, E. O. Wilson, Sam Harris, Elaine Pagels, Francis Collins, Daniel Dennett, Jane Goodall, Paul Davies, and Steven Weinberg. The interviewees include Christians, Buddhists, Jews, and Muslims, as well as agnostics, atheists, and other scholars who hold perspectives that are hard to categorize. Paulson's interviews sweep across a broad range of scientific disciplines--evolutionary biology, quantum physics, cosmology, and neuroscience--and also explore key issues in theology, religious history, and what William James called ''the varieties of religious experience.'' Collectively, these engaging dialogues cover the major issues that have often pitted science against religion--from the origins of the universe to debates about God, Darwin, the nature of reality, and the limits of human reason. These are complex, intellectually rich discussions, presented in an accessible and engaging manner. Most of these interviews were originally published as individual cover stories for Salon.com, where they generated a huge reader response. Public Radio's "To the Best of Our Knowledge" will present a major companion series on related topics this fall. A feast of ideas and competing perspectives, this volume will appeal to scientists, spiritual seekers, and the intellectually curious.

Book A Road to Sacred Creation

Download or read book A Road to Sacred Creation written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rudolf Steiner's perspectives on technology are manifold and prophetic. He not only critiqued the technology of his day, but foretold new forms of technology that would inevitably arise, technologies that would be connected to the makers' very attitudes of soul, either the good or bad within them --in other words, their deepest motivations. How we, as evolving human beings, approach technology and its development will be instrumental in determining how ultimately human evolution will turn out. Our future as human beings and the future of technology are intimately connected." --Gary Lamb Illuminating, compelling, challenging, at times staggering in its breadth, A Road to Sacred Creation is above all the definitive text for gaining a hold on Rudolf Steiner's nuanced perspectives on technology. Charting both an inner and outer course --part pilgrimage toward greater perception and knowledge, part dramatic, unfolding plot line of the future of humans and machines, the metaphoric "road" of the title is exactly where humanity finds itself today, though the exact route and destination are still to be determined. The map is not yet drawn, but here is a beginning. Taken together, the relevant concepts, ideas, and insights of Steiner --deftly brought into sequence and dialogue as the editor has done in this book --reveal how the work to arrive at a more spiritually imbued technological future not only involves all domains and fields of spiritual science and anthroposophic work, but has its origins in the very core of our being, fundamentally entwined with our moral progress toward freedom and selfless love.

Download or read book The Message of the Atoms written by Kalervo V. Laurikainen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I meet a difficult problem, I begin to go around it, approaching it again and again from different directions. If I persistently continue these approaches, it can happen that no problem remains. (RolfNevanlinna, in a private discussion.) In 1976, after a mainly administrative period of some 15 years, I spent a couple of months at CERN, working in the Pauli Collection. When I found the Pauli-Fierz correspondence, I had the intuitive feeling that there was the key: that "it was an objective description, and that it was the only possible objective description" for the mysteries of quantum mechanics. Here I have cited Bohr in his 'last interview' (see Chap. 7), which I became acquainted with only later, but I was immediately convinced that Pauli's view was more profound than anything else I had read about in quantum mechanics. However, nowadays the investigation of the foundations of quantum theory is dominated by 'realism', which means that the influence of the psyche on our conception of reality is ignored. This book is an attempt to show that this is not possible in quantum mechanics.

Book The Prayer of Silence

    Book Details:
  • Author : Phd Bruce Fraser MacDonald
  • Publisher : Strategic Book Publishing
  • Release : 2011-11
  • ISBN : 161897193X
  • Pages : 291 pages

Download or read book The Prayer of Silence written by Phd Bruce Fraser MacDonald and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2011-11 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Prayer of Silence” has several aims: 1. to teach basic relaxation and concentration methods based on bodily awareness; 2. to develop an awareness of the Divine Presence; 3. to overcome emotional and personality blocks to develop a sense of personal wholeness; 4. to develop an awareness of what the author, drawing on a near death experience in 1966, calls “the Watcher” aspect of consciousness that speeds the development of spiritual perception of inner “Love, Peace and Joy,” 5. to transform the ego from attachment to material and emotional limits to a spiritual Ego that is one with the “Atman” or “Spirit,” and to extend that spiritual awareness to the world and other people; 6. to be able to deal with the conflicts and potential arising from the memory of past lives; 7. to be able to find a “Spiritual Guide” in the inner person; 8. to be able to deal with the inevitable “dry periods” in spiritual practice; 9. to experience “Nirvana,” where all lower attachments are blown out; and 10. to achieve Divine Union, where the Ego and God are One, where “Atman experiences itself as one with Brahman,” where one can say with Jesus, “I and the Father are One.” There is also a very good chapter on “mantras,” so the student can learn about their nature and use, although the Prayer of Silence uses a different, more direct form of focus to achieve concentration and inner awareness. Dr. MacDonald has also remembered and worked with many of his own past lives, so he is a reliable guide to others who are going through that process. The author is a master teacher and the book presents its material in a steadily more complex form, laying the necessary foundations before proceeding to the higher levels of learning. There is a combination of theory and practical exercises so the learner can develop meditation skills gradually but with confidence, building from one stage to the next to achieve mastery of the subject. The writing is clear and concise and easy to understand. In order to explain the often difficult ideas associated with meditation and spiritual growth, Dr. MacDonald draws on the language, ideas and practice of Christian, Hindu, Jewish, and Buddhist traditions to clarify ideas from different angles. He also draws on relevant scientific studies of human consciousness to help make the ideas and aims of this Prayer of Silence clear to the reader.

Book The Dayspring of Youth

Download or read book The Dayspring of Youth written by (None Given) M and published by Glorian Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This work is a record of instruction received during different states of Yoga practice; that sealed book opened by the aspiring student during his development into his own inner states of being." - M (the author). This precious book stands next to Blavatsky's The Secret Doctrine (1888) as one of the most important spiritual books of recent centuries. First published in 1931, at a time when charlatans and fortune-seekers were rapidly expanding their efforts to mislead humanity through mischievous spiritual teachings, this mysterious book by an "anonymous" author opened the doors for sincere seekers to real spirituality. He explains how proper management of our psychological and physical energies brings us into harmony with the divine. His message is at once scientific and mystical, intuitive and concrete, and completely in harmony with the scriptures of every religion. Although the author "M" could not state explicitly what was destined to be fully revealed beginning in 1950 by Samael Aun Weor, when illuminated by the light of the ancient Gnostic teachings, the wisdom of this book can truly be understood and valued. It provides a deep yet easy to understand explanation of how our bodies and minds relate to nature and to the superior levels of existence, and what we must do if we long to escape the suffering in our lives.

Download or read book The End Times written by Kurt B. Bakley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-01-20 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we will read the ancient prophecies for the next 1000 years and beyond. It quite different then any other works on this subject, but I feel this is the correct one, I could be wrong. We will read the dates and time periods of Daniel and Revelation, all the Bible, Nostradamus and ancient Egyptian art to see what will happen and when. All prophecies in all books will be fulfilled if true during this time span. Se read on and see your future. Be sure to read my other books entitled: Predictions for 2015 Revised Edition, The Experiment at Philadelphia Revised Edition End Time Signs II and The End Times. Prophecies dont always happen the way we think they will and many times give more than one date, event and time. Some preachers call this secondary fulfillment. For the prophecies of this book to come true the events of September 24-28, and/or October 15-17, December 31, 29, 24-25, 14, 7 November 10-11,22, 2016 or 2017 must come to pass or else another type of future will happen. I explain this in this book and document how other books predicts four or five possible futures and from four or five one will come true as Isaac Newton and a woman in a life after death experience predicted. She said when she was dead she saw four or five futures unfold before her. She came back to life and forgot about them and one day in her kitchen she notice it was the exact copy of one of her futures she saw long ago when she was dead. One comes true out of four or five. If the people remain sinning the good prophecy could fail. This book was finished on December 14, 2015 (leave in).

Book The Experiment at Philadelphia

Download or read book The Experiment at Philadelphia written by Kurt B. Bakley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 1379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Experiment at Philadelphia Did Einstein discover God? If God created all things, then who Created God? What Was and Happened Before the Big-Bang. The Philadelphia Experiment was Einsteins experiment in which he had not only discovered, in 1943, the way to make things invisible and transport them at great speeds but also positively proven scientifically, physically, and spiritually that the Almighty God exists! He had literally discovered God! That question, is there a god? Thats been going through peoples minds for so long, was discussed on the street corner, talked about on the porch on a hot summers night, and is now a proven fact. Yes, there is a god! Did Einstein in the Philadelphia Experiment make contact with UFO beings, who gave him advance knowledge of all things, which Einstein later destroyed, fearing what the world would do with that knowledge? Are the first fourteen chapters of this book about the advance knowledge Einstein received? Does it reveal the deepest, darkest secrets of God and Satan and how the universe works? Does it answer these questions? Many have asked since the beginning of the world: Which is known as the mystery of God? Why am I here? Whats the true meaning of life? How was everything created? Who are God and the devil? If God created all, who created God? If he is the first in creation, where and how did he come into existence? Why does God allow evil in the world? Why do good things happen to bad people and bad things to good people? Whyif we all came from Adam and Eve, who were Jewishare there Gentiles? Are Gentiles children of devils? Is that why the Jews are Gods chosen race? Why in the Garden of Eden was the knowledge of good on the tree forbidden? How old is the earth? Why is God known as the Trinity? Why have religions, down through the ages, done such evil? What, when, and how did the big bang start? What happened to Satan? Who is he really, and what did he do in the past? What are his beliefs and ways? What is he and God literally made of? What is the meaning of the great pyramids and the sphinx? Is there scientific proof that God exists? Read this whole book for the answers to all these tough questions, and be sure to read the introduction first before reading the rest of this book. It will help you better understand this whole book.

Book The Balanced Life

  • Author : Kurt B. Bakley
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2011-05-31
  • ISBN : 1463405901
  • Pages : 114 pages

Download or read book The Balanced Life written by Kurt B. Bakley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Balanced Life Have you become a born again Christian and found life in Christianity terribly hard, stressful and very strict? This book will teach you many important proverbs for living a good easy balanced Christian life. It will take away many of your problems and make life much more easier and less a burden as Jesus taught. Some preachers might not like what is said, but they teach strongly the full law like the Pharisees did to the extremes long ago. And when you try to follow them under the full law you struggle with it while they don't keep it all themselves. Jesus said He came so you wouldn't have to carry a heavy burden and make life free indeed. And remember Jesus' biggest enemies were the very strict Pharisees who were the true religious leaders of His time. They loved the law more than love, people and God Himself. They failed to love and forgive and not judge people. Don't let that happen again. Do you want to feel truly loved? Have less stress in your life? Sleep peacefully at night? Get along with others? Control situations in a good way? Control your self? Be calm and mild and handle all situations that way? Then read this book and apply what's in it to your life for the rest of your life. And start going to bed each night and awaking each morning knowing your life in Christ will bring joy, hope, faith, love and patience both now and forever when you get to heaven.

Book Laurence Oliphant 1829 1888 and The Household

Download or read book Laurence Oliphant 1829 1888 and The Household written by Jeffrey D. Lavoie and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the religious teachings of best-selling Victorian author and former Member of Parliament, Laurence Oliphant (1829–1888). While several biographies have been written on his captivating life, the stage of his life when Oliphant first established ‘The Household' commune has, until now, been largely unexplored. This book focuses on this later stage of his life, exploring Oliphant’s religious teachings. Additionally, this study incorporates a newly discovered archive, which reveals many behind-the-scenes details of The Household's teachings. Jeffrey D. Lavoie shows that Oliphant provided a unique interpretation of sexuality from a mystical Christian perspective, which opposed the restrictive contemporaneous “Victorian morality."
