Download or read book Atmospheric Attenuation of Millimeter and Submillimeter Waves written by Vincent J. Falcone and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atmospheric attenuation of millimeter and submillimeter waves is calculated for clear, fog, cloud and rain atmospheres. The frequency range considered is 1-1000 GHz. The clear atmospheres transmission spectra is calculated by a computer efficient algorithm of AFGL's HITRAN code. This new code is called FASCODE-1. The hydrometeor attenuation of fog, clouds and rain (precipitation), calculated by Mie scattering is addend to FASCODE-1. Models of fog, clouds and rain typical of mid-latitude temperate regions are used in calculations of transmission and attenuation.

Book A Study of Millimeter and Submillimeter Wave Attenuation and Dispersion in the Earth s Atmosphere

Download or read book A Study of Millimeter and Submillimeter Wave Attenuation and Dispersion in the Earth s Atmosphere written by M. Greenebaum and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary is presented of new calculations of atmospheric absorption line parameters and of a slant-path absorption model (SLAM) intended for use in the millimeter and submillimeter wave spectral regions. Results of a literature survey concerning altitude-dependent attenuation and dispersion in this spectral region, as well as weather-dependent scattering and fading strengths, are also summarized. Recommendations are given for reducing the uncertainties in the model predictions. A list of 318 absorption lines of the molecular oxygen isotopes of principal concern in atmospheric transmission below 300/cm is included, together with their integrated strengths at 296K, line widths, lower-state energies, and identifying quantum numbers, in the format of the AFCRL Atmospheric Absorption Line Parameters Compilation.

Book Millimeter and Submillimeter Wave Absorption by Atmospheric Pollutants and Constituents

Download or read book Millimeter and Submillimeter Wave Absorption by Atmospheric Pollutants and Constituents written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calculated absorption coefficients and rotational transition frequencies are given for a number of polar molecules of interest to pollution and energy research. The results, which are presented in graphical form for microwave frequencies up to 1400 GHz, illustrate the increased absorption line intensities occurring in the submillimeter region. For most species these absorption coefficients attain their maximum values in this region. Included in the calculations are the gases SO2, H2CO, O3, H2O, H2S, OCS, CO, NO, OH, SO, NH3, and CS. A discussion of the techniques currently available for the detection in the submillimeter region of these species is also given.

Book Propagation of Centimeter Millimeter and Sub millimeter Waves in the Earth s Atmosphere

Download or read book Propagation of Centimeter Millimeter and Sub millimeter Waves in the Earth s Atmosphere written by S. A. Zhevakin and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The article reviews the present state of knowledge concerning the propagation of microwaves in the earth's atmosphere. The effect of water vapor dimers and monomers as well as molecular oxygen are examined as they contribute to the total absorption coefficient. Three forms of the spectral lines are contrasted, namely that proposed by Lorentz, that proposed by Van Vleck and Weiskopf, and the form obtained from a solution of the kinetic equation. Natural atmospheric wave-guides are discussed briefly indicating why it is impractical to use them for communications. (Author).

Book Infrared and Millimeter Waves V9

Download or read book Infrared and Millimeter Waves V9 written by Kenneth J. Button and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1983-01-01 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared and Millimeter Waves, Volume 9: Millimeter Components and Techniques, Part I compiles the work of several authors while focusing on certain aspects of infrared and millimeter waves, such as sources of radiation, instrumentation, and millimeter systems. This volume deals with millimeter components and techniques. Chapter 1 covers millimeter wave communications, and then the succeeding chapter discusses a comparative study of millimeter waves and transmission lines. This book then tackles dielectric waveguide electrooptic devices, as well as millimeter-wave propagation and remote sensing of the atmosphere, which are covered in Chapter 4. The fifth chapter presents the technology of large radio telescopes for millimeter and submillimeter. The next chapter explains a gyrotron study program, and the last chapter discusses multimode analysis of quasi-optical gyrotrons and gyroklystrons. This book will be of great use for researchers or professionals whose work involves infrared and millimeter waves.

Book Investigation of Passive Atmospheric Sounding Using Millimeter and Submillimeter Wavelength Channels

Download or read book Investigation of Passive Atmospheric Sounding Using Millimeter and Submillimeter Wavelength Channels written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-05 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Activities within the period from July 1, 1992 through December 31, 1992 by Georgia Tech researchers in millimeter and submillimeter wavelength tropospheric remote sensing have been centered around the calibration of the Millimeter-wave Imaging Radiometer (MIR), preliminary flight data analysis, and preparation for TOGA/COARE. The MIR instrument is a joint project between NASA/GSFC and Georgia Tech. In the current configuration, the MIR has channels at 90, 150, 183(+/-1,3,7), and 220 GHz. Provisions for three additional channels at 325(+/-1,3) and 8 GHz have been made, and a 325-GHz receiver is currently being built by the ZAX Millimeter Wave Corporation for use in the MIR. Past Georgia Tech contributions to the MIR and its related scientific uses have included basic system design studies, performance analyses, and circuit and radiometric load design, in-flight software, and post-flight data display software. The combination of the above millimeter wave and submillimeter wave channels aboard a single well-calibrated instrument will provide unique radiometric data for radiative transfer and cloud and water vapor retrieval studies. A paper by the PI discussing the potential benefits of passive millimeter and submillimeter wave observations for cloud, water vapor and precipitation measurements has recently been published, and is included as an appendix.
