Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from At the World's Mercy Whenever I hear of a wife or widow and young family left suddenly unprovided for, I reckon up the children on this wise - so many ne'er-do-wells and so many governesses. I have met with exceptions, but the rule is sound. When my father, a wealthy manufacturer, failed in business, he railed at the world for a little while, and then, calling us together, made us a manly and affecting speech, in which he compared himself to Hercules, and declared his resolution to fight the world for us all, and win us another luxurious home; then he set out for Australia in search of his labors, leaving my mother and sister and myself in lodgings in Pimlico, and recommending us to the care of my brother, a lad of twenty, who had just been expelled from college. My high-spirited mother rather resented my father's conduct, and was of opinion that it would hare been more heroic to remain and starve with us at Pimlico than to run away and let us starve alone. It was at this point that we promised to follow the rule I have stated. My sister Elsie, who was sixteen, and I, two years older, never for one moment thought of looking for support to James, who threw his arms dramatically round my mother's neck and declared for the fiftieth time that he would "turn over a new leaf"; but we instinctively took up the advertisement-sheet of the "Times." This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from From Eden to Glory, or Footsteps of Mercy It is worthy Of notice that there is no extended rev elation given in the Word Of the entrance of sin, while the way to escape from it, and from its consequences, is made the main subject of the Scriptures. It might gratify our curiosity to be informed as to the communications which man, when In a state of in nocence, had with God to know how Often the angels came down to him, and What manner Of conversation they had; and to be made acquainted with all the ways by which Satan undertook to deceive him; but since we know that Sin does exist, and that the remedy for it is provided, instead of speculating upon its origin the great practical question that Should chiefly engage our attention Is, How can we get rid of it? How be re deemed from its guilt and power? This problem is solved for usf God indicated His interest in man's happiness by sending a Saviour, by Hsis providential dispensations, and by the institutions of His grace, through which, as means, man may be rescued. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Jake Brigance is back! The hero of A Time to Kill, one of the most popular novels of our time, returns in a courtroom drama that The New York Times says is "riveting" and "suspenseful." Clanton, Mississippi. 1990. Jake Brigance finds himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial when the court appoints him attorney for Drew Gamble, a timid sixteen-year-old boy accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance digs in and discovers that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Jake’s fierce commitment to saving Drew from the gas chamber puts his career, his financial security, and the safety of his family on the line. In what may be the most personal and accomplished legal thriller of John Grisham’s storied career, we deepen our acquaintance with the iconic Southern town of Clanton and the vivid cast of characters that so many readers know and cherish. The result is a richly rewarding novel that is both timely and timeless, full of wit, drama, and—most of all—heart. Bursting with all the courthouse scheming, small-town intrigue, and stunning plot twists that have become the hallmarks of the master of the legal thriller, A Time for Mercy is John Grisham’s most powerful courtroom drama yet. There is a time to kill and a time for justice. Now comes A Time for Mercy. Don’t miss John Grisham’s new book, THE EXCHANGE: AFTER THE FIRM!

Book excerpt: Excerpt from At Her Mercy, Vol. 1 of 3: A Novel The great gates of the modern park (it was once a chase) stand close to Seymour's Home, in the very centre of the hamlet, and are open night and day to all comers. Thus without descending from their high placed Paradise, the happy Dunwich folks can pass from their own doors into a world of verdurous dip, and upland, with groves of stately oak, and dells of fern, where the couched deer, accustomed to such harmless visitors, scarce lift their branching heads to watch them pass. Here and there, beneath some spreading tree, or on some hillock whence the leafy avenue prolongs itself to one green arbour, and seems to meet at last, are rustic seats for whispering lovers made, or at all events such intention is taken for granted.
