Whether second graders or adults, the mentoring and training of acolytes is a formational experience. I Serve at God’s Altar offers a simplified theology of how God is met in worship and how it affects the lives of those most engaged in it, a visual exploration of the Episcopal liturgy and its history through extensive illustrations, how acolytes fit into the work of the church in worship, and how worship affects the acolyte’s discernment for ministry and Rule of Life. Illustrations include a visual exploration of church artifacts (crosses, candles, Eucharistic vessels, etc.), holds, and processes to set a standard of expectation and expertise in service according to Episcopal practice and tradition. There is a section of reproducible handouts for organizing an acolyte ministry at every size church, including scheduling, communications, installation liturgies, recruitment plans, and training outlines.

Book excerpt: Few believers experience God's altar--a place of pure and wholehearted relationship and worship where our holy God can meet with us and the fire of his presence can fall. But such an altar is necessary in our personal lives, our marriages, our churches, and our nations so that we are strengthened, empowered, and equipped for every good work. In this influential, modern-day call back to the altar, Chuck D. Pierce and Alemu Beeftu invite readers to find their way to rebuild the place of God's presence to allow the fire of God--his presence and power--to fall. When we rekindle the altar fire, our lives, prayer, and worship are transformed. The time to rebuild altars for fresh fire is now!

Book excerpt: Discover your true identity in Christ. Many of us live for the approval of others. We let the world decide who we are, or we look to those around us to discover who we think we’d like to be. The problem is that living for what people think of you is the quickest way to forget what God thinks of you. In Altar Ego, pastor and author of Winning the War in Your Mind Craig Groeschel will show you how to sacrifice your broken ideas of approval-based identity on the altar of God’s truth and become who you were meant to be in Christ. You'll learn how to: Expose false labels and selfish motives. Live according to God's higher values with a deeper confidence in His calling. Trade in your broken ego and unleash your “altar” ego as a living sacrifice to Him. Understand how God continuously shapes you into His vision of you. Once you know your true identity and are growing in Christ-like character, then you can behave accordingly with bold behavior, bold prayers, bold words, and bold obedience. Altar Ego reveals who God says you are, and then calls you to live up to it. Rather than living a timid, halfhearted, shallow cultural Christianity, you'll boldly live in the confidence of the God who believes in you.

Book The Altar of God

Download or read book The Altar of God written by Dr Wayne Rowe and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2014-10-02 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By looking into scripture, this book hopes to shed a clear picture of God's love, grace, and mercy toward man in the act of creation. The image depicted by the author is based upon scripture by using it to reveal what exactly is covered by God's boundless act of love. This book will also discuss the intricate details of God's altar for the sins of all mankind. Throughout the Old Testament, we are given examples that show the true character of God. The Bible also shows God's love for all mankind. God desires to draw us near to Him, to restore us to a place we were prior to the fall of man, to have fellowship with God, and to live eternally with God. By God's plan of redemption through His Son Jesus Christ, He would restore man back to Him, and to have fellowship with Him as it had first been intended. Man was predestined to again enter into fellowship with their Creator. There is a common ground in which all existence has in common: God spoke a beginning, and it was created.

Download or read book Rebuilding the Altar written by Pat Schatzline and published by Charisma Media. This book was released on 2017 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Spirit has become a stranger. Many long for a closer walk with God, but He seems far away. They go to church. They read the Bible. But they don't experience His presence. Why? Because many have forsaken the altar--the place where God is found. When we truly encounter Him again, the light and power of God will flow to our homes, then to our houses of worship, then to the nation, and we will never be the same. In Rebuilding the Altar authors Pat and Karen Schatzline passionately challenge you to return to the altar. You see, the altar is not just a physical location or an instrument in a church or synagogue. Through Christ we can experience a daily encounter with Jesus, who became our altar. We must declare this truth to the deceived. We must raise a standard of holiness and no compromise. We must bring hope to the hurting. It's time for change. It's time to return to the altar...and encounter God.

Book Building an Altar of Sacrifice

Download or read book Building an Altar of Sacrifice written by Francis Elijah Ndunagum and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-07-20 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all have dreams, talents, gifts and destinies to fulfill. Many times we live unfulfilled dreams because we have not yet ignited nor maintained the fire on our personal altar. Having repeatedly seen this sad occurrence, I was burdened to study the bible with a burning desire to find out why this happens even after the Lord may have given a sure word of prophecy to His children. I diligently read the bible to find out solutions which we can apply to our lives to curb the tendency where an alarmingly high number of people never get to fulfill their destinies. One of the biggest strategies the devil uses to destroy a believer’s life is to ensure the fire on their personal altar dies down. One needs to know that the sole purpose of building an altar of sacrifice in God’s kingdom is not to offer up animal sacrifice but rather to have a quiet place of one-to-one communication with God. It is here that a believer can ask forgiveness of sins, a factor which separates man from God and thereafter proceed to worship Him. Building an altar of sacrifice means you having a sacred or consecrated place of worship and adoration with God Almighty. It is sad to know some believers do not have a personal altar of sacrifice. On the other hand, quite a number of those who have do not take time to keep the fire burning on their altar. Every believer needs to have their private altar of sacrifice and ensure that it is kept burning day and night throughout their lifetime. The specified and acceptable sacrifice to be offered in your altar to God is the sacrifice of a burnt-offering of ADORATION and INCENSE of PRAISE. As the altar of incense burns every morning and evening, so is God expecting your prayers and praises to be raised every time from your altar. If the fire in your altar of sacrifice goes off, your altar becomes dormant and falls into ruins rendering your guiding angel ineffective while at the same time, giving the Devil the opportunity to mess up your life. It is obvious we do ourselves harm if we do not tend daily to our altars to keep the fire burning.

Book Touching the Altar

Download or read book Touching the Altar written by Carol M. Bechtel and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2008-01-14 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be in the presence of God's holiness? How can it affect us whether we seek it out or stumble upon it? Can it truly change our very reality to encounter it? The essayists in this volume explore these questions at the heart of Christian worship, considering the oft-neglected Old Testament as essential to understand our purpose in worship. Following the structure of the Hebrew canon -- beginning with the Pentateuch, moving through to the Psalms, then wisdom literature -- each chapter considers a separate aspect of worship, from theater to the Sabbath to sacred space, offering new inspiration. In the final essay Carol Bechtel "rereads the book of Job through the lens of our human limitations (as opposed to the usual theme of theodicy)," with compelling applications for both life and worship. Each of these essays concludes with two appropriately themed hymns and a "For Further Reading" list. Five of the seven contain sidebars that illustrate and enrich key points. Evocative woodcut artwork by Margaret Adams Parker provides a striking backdrop to the text. Taken together, these essays testify powerfully to the belief that the Old Testament is not only valuable but also essential to "whole" and fully foundational preaching and worship. Written primarily by Old Testament professors, Touching the Altar will make an engaging supplemental text for introductory or elective Old Testament courses and will also go far toward providing deeper worship for any Christian. When I asked the Lord what He wanted me to name this book He put strongly in my heart “Altars of Remembrance” to tell all the wonderful ways He guides and protects those who are His. Now with her second book “MORE Altars of Remembrance” it continues with the unbelievable love and faithfulness of this great God. Hannah has started a third book and looks forward to what the Lord will put in that one.

Book Abraham Called by God

    Book Details:
  • Author : Witness Lee
  • Publisher : Living Stream Ministry
  • Release : 2024-01-19
  • ISBN : 1536036714
  • Pages : 383 pages

Download or read book Abraham Called by God written by Witness Lee and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2024-01-19 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham was the same as we are today. He never dreamed of being called by God. Suddenly, while he and his relatives were in Chaldea worshipping other gods, the God of glory appeared to him. This appearing was a great attraction, enabling him to come out of his fallen background and accept God's calling. Although Abraham answered God's call, he did not do so immediately nor absolutely. Although he learned to live by faith, he had serious failures along the way. He followed God in a way not unlike us all. Eventually, he was brought to know grace for the fulfillment of God's purpose. In a remarkable commentary on the life of Abraham from the book of Genesis, Witness Lee presents Abraham as a genuine man, not unlike us all, fallen, but called by God. Like him, we have seen "the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" and have been attracted to follow Him. Like him, we must learn the lessons of faith through trials, testing, and failure, in order to enter into the promises and blessings of God. Abraham--Called by God, taken from the Life-study of Genesis, presents a unique and vital view of the father of our faith.

Book The Altars Will Alter Your Life Forever

Download or read book The Altars Will Alter Your Life Forever written by Shirley Nash and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Today it is Your Turn to Visit the Altar." The purpose of this book is to make you aware of God's standards when we develop a relationship with Him. This book explains the altars that God has established and altars that the devil has set up for the destruction of our lives. The God ordained altars will call forth life while the Baal altars will bring death into your life. John 10:10, The thief (devil) cometh, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: Jesus stated, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." The God altars will lead you into a pathway of righteousness and holiness while the Baal altars will lead you down a pathway of sin and desecration. This book will tell you the purposes, motives and directives of each altar. It will show you how to apply the godly principles of each altar to your life, so you may mature in God. It will also give you guidelines to resist the pitfalls of the Baal altars. If you apply these rules to your life, they will transform you forever. Today you have a choice to make at these altars. I hope you will choose the altar, "Life" and not death. I challenge you to seek the true and living, Holy God. It is only He who can change you. Psalm 34:8 states, "O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him."

Book Our Father Abraham

  • Release : 2021-06-29
  • ISBN : 1467462381

Download or read book Our Father Abraham written by Marvin R. Wilson and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the roots of Christianity run deep into Hebrew soil, many Christians remain regrettably uninformed about the rich Jewish heritage of the church. Our Father Abraham delineates the vital link between Judaism and Christianity, exemplified by the common ancestry of the two faiths traceable back to Abraham. Marvin Wilson calls Christians to reexamine their Semitic heritage to regain a more authentically biblical understanding of what they believe and practice. Wilson, a trusted voice among both Jews and Christians, speaks to both past and present, first developing a historical perspective on the Jewish origins of the church and then discussing how the church can become more attuned to the Hebraic mindset of Scripture. Drawing from his own extensive experience, he also offers valuable practical guidance for salutary interaction between Christians and Jews. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book especially suitable for use in groups—Christian, Jewish, or interfaith—as readers strive to make sense of their own faith in connection with the other. The second edition of Our Father Abraham features a new preface, an expanded bibliography of recent relevant works, and two new chapters: one that discusses Jewish-Christian relations after the Holocaust and another that reflects on Wilson’s own fifty-plus-year career as an evangelical Christian deeply committed to interfaith dialogue. As Christians and Jews feel a growing need for mutual support in an increasingly secular Western world, Wilson’s widely acclaimed book will offer encouragement and wise guidance toward this worthy end.
