Book Coding and Quantization

Download or read book Coding and Quantization written by Robert Calderbank, G. David Forney, Jr., and Nader Moayeri and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the DIMACS/IEEE workshop on coding and quantization. The theme of the workshop was the application of discrete mathematics to reliable data transmission and source compression. These applications will become more significant in the coming years, with the advent of high capacity cellular networks, personal communications devices, and the ``wireless office''. The articles are written by experts from industry and from academia. Requiring only a background in basic undergraduate mathematics, this book appeals to mathematicians interested in multidimensional Euclidean geometry (especially lattice theory), as well as to engineers interested in bandwidth efficient communication or vector quantization.

Book Vector Quantization and Signal Compression

Download or read book Vector Quantization and Signal Compression written by Allen Gersho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 737 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herb Caen, a popular columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, recently quoted a Voice of America press release as saying that it was reorganizing in order to "eliminate duplication and redundancy. " This quote both states a goal of data compression and illustrates its common need: the removal of duplication (or redundancy) can provide a more efficient representation of data and the quoted phrase is itself a candidate for such surgery. Not only can the number of words in the quote be reduced without losing informa tion, but the statement would actually be enhanced by such compression since it will no longer exemplify the wrong that the policy is supposed to correct. Here compression can streamline the phrase and minimize the em barassment while improving the English style. Compression in general is intended to provide efficient representations of data while preserving the essential information contained in the data. This book is devoted to the theory and practice of signal compression, i. e. , data compression applied to signals such as speech, audio, images, and video signals (excluding other data types such as financial data or general purpose computer data). The emphasis is on the conversion of analog waveforms into efficient digital representations and on the compression of digital information into the fewest possible bits. Both operations should yield the highest possible reconstruction fidelity subject to constraints on the bit rate and implementation complexity.

Download or read book Integer Programming and Combinatorial Optimization written by Mohit Singh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-05 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the proceedings of the 22nd Conference on Integer Programming and Combinatorial Optimization, IPCO 2021, which took place during May 19-21, 2021. The conference was organized by Georgia Institute of Technology and planned to take place it Atlanta, GA, USA, but changed to an online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 33 papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 90 submissions. IPCO is under the auspices of the MathematicalOptimization Society, and it is an important forum for presenting the latest results of theory and practice of the various aspects of discrete optimization.

Book Trends in Stochastic Analysis

Download or read book Trends in Stochastic Analysis written by Jochen Blath and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-04-09 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting important trends in the field of stochastic analysis, this collection of thirteen articles provides an overview of recent developments and new results. Written by leading experts in the field, the articles cover a wide range of topics, ranging from an alternative set-up of rigorous probability to the sampling of conditioned diffusions. Applications in physics and biology are treated, with discussion of Feynman formulas, intermittency of Anderson models and genetic inference. A large number of the articles are topical surveys of probabilistic tools such as chaining techniques, and of research fields within stochastic analysis, including stochastic dynamics and multifractal analysis. Showcasing the diversity of research activities in the field, this book is essential reading for any student or researcher looking for a guide to modern trends in stochastic analysis and neighbouring fields.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers presented at NIPS, the flagship meeting on neural computation, held in December 2004 in Vancouver. The annual Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference is the flagship meeting on neural computation. It draws a diverse group of attendees--physicists, neuroscientists, mathematicians, statisticians, and computer scientists. The presentations are interdisciplinary, with contributions in algorithms, learning theory, cognitive science, neuroscience, brain imaging, vision, speech and signal processing, reinforcement learning and control, emerging technologies, and applications. Only twenty-five percent of the papers submitted are accepted for presentation at NIPS, so the quality is exceptionally high. This volume contains the papers presented at the December, 2004 conference, held in Vancouver.

Book Handbook of Emerging Communications Technologies

Download or read book Handbook of Emerging Communications Technologies written by Rafael Osso and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Communication technologies change the way we live our lives-the ways we communicate and share information, the news, and our entertainment. The new millennium promises to bring some of the most volatile activity in the history of communications, as we continue to be bombarded by new standards and technologies. The near frenzy of corporate mergers and acquisitions accelerates technological development and can provide hints of what is to come. With the rapid appearance of new protocols, standards, and tools, it becomes increasingly difficult -and increasingly important-for communications professionals to remain up-to-date on new and emerging technologies. The Handbook of Emerging Communications Technologies: The Next Decade fills this gap. Until now, information on many of its topics, such as Multiprotocol over ATM, IP Multicasting, and RSVP, existed only as fragmented articles on the Internet or as complex feature specifications. In this landmark volume, 18 leading authorities each tackle one of the cutting edge technologies destined to shape the future. Each chapter Describes a technology and any standards on which it is based Discusses its impact on the communications field Forecasts its future direction Developed primarily for telecommunications specialists network managers, developers, and analysts, the Handbook of Emerging Communications Technologies: The Next Decade, offers the opportunity to acquire a deeper understanding of future technologies necessary to remaining current, and serves as a valuable reference guide for corporate executives, planners, and information managers-anyone seeking general knowledge about where the communications industry is heading.
