This book was released on 2018-10 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Assyrian and Babylonian Letters Belonging to the Kouyunjik Collections of the British Museum, Vol. 7 Parts I and II were necessarily confined to the Letters among the first tablets of the K. Collection, the proportion of the Collection covered by the first two volumes of the Catalogue. Among the tablets de scribed in Volume III, there were some Letters written by scribes whose correspondence, found among the first tablets, had already been published in Parts I and II. It would have been possible to have added these, as a sup plement, to Part I II. It seemed, however, more expedient to relegate such a supplement to a later place in the Series and to continue to break fresh ground. Part IV was in type before the appearance of Volume IV of the Catalogue, and, for the reasons assigned in the Preface, the original plan was modified in some details. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Assyrian and Babylonian Letters Belonging to the Kouyunjik Collections of the British Museum, Vol. 5 I have been hampered in this, as in all the preceding volumes, by scratchings and rubbings made upon the Tablets by my predecessors, who have often scratched signs in such a way as to make them read as they thought they should. This makes it impossible to distinguish what the original text really was, and I must add that I cannot accept all of these amended originals. Of course, such treatment of a tablet was thoughtless, to say the least of it. It is also very unfair, as it makes it almost impossible to differ from the person who has thus amended the original. All textual students are very glad, indeed, that such treatment of Tablets is not in vogue at present, and is, in fact, now impossible in the British Museum. The Parts containing the texts of the Letters will, I have every reason to hope, appear more frequently in the future than in the past. Part VI will probably be ready in 1901. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Assyrian and Babylonian Letters, Vol. 6: Belonging to the Kouyunjik Collections of the British Museum The present Part contains the texts of one hundred and twelve tablets on which the names of the scribes have been broken away. Of these texts thirteen have been published by winckler, one by johns, and one in IV R. Even if the plan of publication had not -made it necessary to republish these texts, I think that the many changes in readings and the additions would be sufficient justification for doing so. Book Assyrian and Babylonian Letters Belonging to the Kouyunjik Collections of the British Museum Vol 13 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Assyrian and Babylonian Letters Belonging to the Kouyunjik Collections of the British Museum Vol 13 Classic Reprint written by Robert Francis Harper and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Assyrian and Babylonian Letters Belonging to the Kouyunjik Collections of the British Museum, Vol. 13 The present Part contains the texts of ninety-seven tablets and four plates of k.k. 4267, 4276; 1 361, reproduced by the collotype process. On many Of these texts the name of the scribe has been broken away. N o attempt has been made to classify such Letters as this more naturally falls within the province of the commentary. Again few restorations of the text have been attempted as corrections and restorations are reserved for the Part on Textual Notes. N o. 1282 has been published by george smith; N o. 1278 by pinches; Nos. 1279, 1281, 1283, 1304, 1311 and 1326, have been published by winckler; Nos. 1277, 1280, 1308, 1339, 1367, 1368 and 1369 by waterman, and I am indebted to them for their copies, which were carefully prepared. I have not been able, however, to accept all their readings, and I may also say that I do not expect scholars to accept all mine. Many of these tablets are broken and most difficult to read, and in such it is Often impossible to form a connected text. Again there are as many different handwritings as there were scribes. Hence, there will be many places where scholars may differ from my readings. In the final collation of all the Letter texts, I myself hope to be able to decide the reading of many passages, about which there is, to my mind, still some uncertainty. A few very important texts, which cannot be properly classified as Letters, but which contain information such as we should expect to find in the form of Letters, are included in this Part. Compare bezold's Catalogue, and waterman in his Chicago Dissertation. As already stated in Part VI, I am much honoured by the attention shown to this class of literature, and I wish to state again that, as soon as the texts are published, they become public property, and anyone may use them for any purpose he may wish.
