Book Assessment of the Unconfined Compressive Strength of a Lime Stabilized Soil by an Abrasion Test

Download or read book Assessment of the Unconfined Compressive Strength of a Lime Stabilized Soil by an Abrasion Test written by M. Arabi and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stabilization by lime, which is frequently carried out to improve the mechanical properties of soils, results from the formation and development of cementitious calcium silicate aluminate hydrate gel. The gel produces interlocking and bonding of the soil particles, hence increasing the strength and abrasion resistance. The proposed method to assess the compressive strength of the existing structure of lime stabilized soil using a simple mechanical abrasion technique, provides an alternative means by which the strength characteristics can be assessed. The advantages of employing the abrasion method are (1) the relative ease of specimen collection and preparation as the test is not particularly sensitive to specimen size and shape and (2) the ease of application to existing structures as large-scale mechanical testing equipment would not be required once a calibration chart has been established, and testing could be carried out on site.

Book Soil Stabilization with Cement and Lime

Download or read book Soil Stabilization with Cement and Lime written by Philip Thomas Sherwood and published by Stationery Office Books (TSO). This book was released on 1993 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil stabilization is the process whereby soils and related materials are made stronger and more durable by mixing with a stabilizing agent. These techniques are used for road construction in most parts of the world, although the circumstances and reasons for resorting to stabilization vary considerably.

Book Lime Cement Combination Stabilization

Download or read book Lime Cement Combination Stabilization written by Lovick P. Suddath and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil stabilization is used extensively in road and airfield construction. In particular, soil-cement appears to be a favorite among the engineers. As the plasticity of a soil increases, the ability to adequately mix the cement with the soil becomes a critical factor. Also the quantity of cement required to stabilize the soil becomes excessive. The objective of the study was to determine the effect of reduced compacted density on the durability of cement stabilized clays, pretreated with lime. The reduction in density did not impair the durability of cement stabilized clay soils, which were pretreated with lime. Most of the test results indicated an improved resistance to freeze-thaw. An evaluation of the unconfined compressive strength results obtained during freeze-thaw shows that lime pretreatment improved the strengths. (Modified author abstract).

Book Methods for Preparation and Testing of Stabilized Materials Method 2 2

Download or read book Methods for Preparation and Testing of Stabilized Materials Method 2 2 written by Standards Association of Australia. Committee CE/009, Testing of Soils for Engineering Purposes and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Standard sets out the method for the addition in the laboratory of cementitious stabilizing binders such as lime, blended lime mixtures, cement, blended cements, bituminous or other materials to soils, gravels and crushed rock pavement materials, in preparation for use in an appropriate test method. The size fraction of the material to be prepared will depend on the test to be performed on the stabilized material. For unconfined compressive strength tests and California bearing ratio tests, the fraction used has to be that passing the 19.0 mm sieve.
